Why is it that SoC still manages to make me jump the most of the three games?
I've played it the most, and somehow it still does it the most.
Even in firefights, with those NPC fucks that sneak up behind me.
Also I have a feeling third person might be fun to play with in LA

It doesn't work in vanilla/AA2 but the animations seem like they would work well for it.

Terrain's less open than in CoP, there are more hostile NPCs, and there are fewer safe zones.
I think the biggest factor would be the terrain though. The vegetation/abandoned vehicles/run-down buildings are pretty dense in places, so visibility is limited to about 50-100 meters most of the time. That gives you less time to engage, and gives them a better shot at killing you.
CoP's levels are so boring to me. Anomalies are only in certain areas which makes every level seem really small, there weren't any awesome underground areas like X18 or Agroprom, stuff was way too open which made all firefights pretty boring, and the coolest areas in the game were barely used(Jupiter Factory I'm looking at you).
Don't get me wrong though, I still love CoP, I just think level design wasn't the strong side of it.
Actually playing Pripyat Reborn the first thing I was thinking of with all the new encounters was "holy shit why is there barely anywhere to take cover"
Although that can be cool at times, because it forces me to hide in bushes when mercs come by or try to make a dash for a strategic object like the large tower near the swamps in Yanov. But for the most part it's just frustrating until you get a decent sniper because a roaming merc squad was a near guaranteed death with no way to retreat unless I was lucky enough to be in a bush.
Heh after talking about SoC making me more jumpy I encountered a bloodsucker in broad daylight in AA2 on the edge of the bloodsucker village here attacking a guy
[t]http://i1.minus.com/iYcMA5Ekdx9zN.png[/t]
I started chasing it by sound but then it stopped and I couldn't find it, I didn't even notice it was literally crouched down right next to me invisible. I looked around for like 10 seconds, and then it popped up and swiped at me and knocked my LR300 out of my hand
Nearly gave me a heart attack.

I know there's a new "Stalker" game coming out but it will never be the same and it looks like a rust take on it.

What's that guy doing on the wall up there? And it looks pretty nice.
On second thought, all those guys doing up there. I thought they were just chilling till I saw the guy on the rock and the tree.

It's the Monolith leftovers. They were probably [del]sexually[/del] spiritually attracted to the tree or something.
Oh man, I only realized OWR2 adds a goddamn Saiga when I found a bandit using one, hell yeah. I really don't get why none of the Stalker games have a Saiga in them, it would seem like a perfect fit for the setting.

That tree is a good visual cue for telling players how fucked up the area has been.
bloodsuckers, bloodsuckers everywhere

Now just imagine Pripyat Reborn on SoC/CS maps. :)

Call of Chernobyl ! I'm honestly more hyped for that than LA
Also hope it will contain OWR w/ addon, too many maps to explore only with those 20(?) or so vanilla weapons

I love how big the CNPP is, it feels absolutely massive.
Are there any mods that turn Yanov in CoP into a dense forest?

We don't have beautiful levels or story. But we do have better AI. :) Borovos has been working on original levels but level design takes years so they won't make it to first release. I'm not sure if we'll be using the Addon version of OWR 2, that's up to Bangalore. Darkenneko and r_populik are both on our team. Darkenneko has added more variety meshes/textures. R_populik is not actively involved but he does do us freelance work from time-to-time. Maybe Swartz will come back to modding and help us. But he is a lazy bastard. :v:
Even if you don't have OWR 2 addon you should at least steal the mosin and izh-43 double barrel from it.
Also imagine Call of Chernobyl, but with LA's maps

I actually wish they decided to port LA to CoP engine. They wasted time adding features present already in CoP to SoC engine (They could have fixed DX11 in CoP engine instead). I'm guessing LA engine uses older obsolete engine classes that were removed/replaced in CS and COP. Since most of their modders only ever modded SoC they probably kept all the old familiar engine classes and methods. A dream for all SoC modders but anyone who is used to CS/CoP will have to relearn a lot of things all over again.
That would be fun to port the maps over. Bangalore is capable of doing it. But that wold be another 2 years of his life, haha.

can't help you, sorry bud
It has always amazed me how you guys keep the game alive. I've played over all the games once, but feel like I should give them a whirl again. Every few years I come by here and ask what mod I should replay SoC on and you guys always give me good advice, but I never get around to actually doing it. Maybe I'll just play vanilla again. Anyway just wanted to drop by and say the FP stalker community amazes me and has really been the only reason I keep looking back at these games, apart from how great they themselves were.
so i've started a new game using the fp bug fix pack in the op.
fun.

Personally I've always much preferred the ballistics and feel of SoC over CS/CoP. Feels so much nicer and "realistic"
What's a good total conversion mod for SoC? As in new story + possibly locations.
Preferably not the soup. I'm considering Priboi Story but im just wondering if theres anything else
rip tried to force my way through the duty checkpoint in garbage, only to have the warranted officer x-ray me and shoot me through the walls of the trailer cabin after i had already killed 5 of the guards.
god damn I discovered that you can get squads to follow you in Pripyat Reborn if you're friends with them, and it actually does it well compared to most other mods.
I just took a squad of freedomers, and we hunted down the burers in the tunnel, and took over the container warehouse from the bandits.
Was cool shit.
[editline]14th April 2014[/editline]
Unfortunately I couldn't save Mitay from the container warehouse because he's a fucking idiot and grabbed an AK, charged at the bandits, missed every shot, and got shot in the head with an eliminator
Content because [Green] will always be with us.

My steam friend claims this game is broken garbage because he dies too fast :v:
He even made a video specially for me as a proof, because his constant whining wasn't enough apparently.

Dying from two assault rifle bursts from 30 meters away? Fucking dropped.
Yeah unfortunately in STALKER the main character isn't a bulletsponge shape shifter that can heal himself by sitting behind a wall.
I love the damage system in STALKER. There's much more tactics involved when getting shot actually kills you.

NPCs not being fucking retarded when it comes to hitting a target = broken game
tell him to go eat snork dick
Tell him to go back to playing his Call of Doody.
I've played through Call of Pripyat, now I wanna go back and play SoC, I found that Autumn Aurora mod for it, it seems to make some pretty cool changes, should I use that or is there something better? I'm not looking for anything that would make the gamer harder.
