Enable player shadows in the options from the Game tab. You will lose your legs but at least you can hear your steps and see your shadow.

Maybe it's a gameplay feature. Until you fix your PDA your PDA will crash and obviously STALKERS can't live without their PDA so the game saves you the trouble and quits for you

I know it had a long development cycle which it can obviously be attributed to, but it doesn't feel to me like I'm playing a mod.

Wanna see if there's a common cause here, or possible solutions that can be ruled out. If it's not those things that cause this problem, that makes it a drastically more weird error, since usually it's an admin privilege problem that causes this same problem across many games. (I generally prefer not to install games in Program Files at all nowadays)

Please tell me you didn't try to install LA over SHOC (because that error can happen when installing certain mods over SHOC, so...). If not, google that error for vanilla stalker. You can try deleting user.ltx from the install folder and see if that works.

Tell your friend to right-click the install folder in Program Files, go to the Security and Edit permissions to give yourself full control over the folder.

I figured this out because the LA console has an error message related to permissions (aka admin stuff) if you cfg_save (force config save for controls and settings) or when you save in-game. Dez is aware of this and I told him how it's fixed. Probably the installer messing up.

I play on a intergrated NividaGeForce 6105se or something like that. How you are getting any error like that is beyond me.

Of course I didn't, I'm well aware it's a standalone release. Deleted the file, reinstalled, ran integrity check on the archives, reinstalled the 3rd party stuff, still refuses to run. I'll try it on my weaker 560 rig in a bit.

For some reason this is a shader issue. I know because I've had this when i was trying different shaders out in shoc. Ask dez about this and update your drivers
