is it even at all possible to make ammo rare in stalker games?
One could conceivably play with surplus / "premium" ammo types, where the surplus ammo is about as plentiful as you see in the game normally, but it is also highly corrosive and wears down your gun pretty quickly and the "premium" ammo is found on corpses in only small quantities so it's not a question whether you don't have any ammo at all, but rather create a psychological desire to hoard the "good" ammo so that you don't shit up your gun constantly as you're firing it. That could be of course, to the most common assault rifle calibers, 5.45x39 and 5.56x45 but calibers such as 7.62x54R would be always the "premium" ammunition because they're rare enough as it is anyway. I think that Swartz mod already does something like this to an extent and ZoA too.
Ammo can be made heavy, which is a proper limitation.
You'd have to make ammo ungodly heavy to make any difference at all, really, and then you'd be dealing with another unrealistic, immersion-breaking system in exchange.
Every enemy magically only having like three rounds just gets bizarre and annoying.
It might be a bit gamey sure, but the other alternative is flat out making the economy of the game not worth a damn. Even in highly survival-mechanics oriented mods like Misery/Reducks, gun food and medikits are the player's priorities in terms of what matters in the economy. If you make enemies have a "realistic" amount of loot, it's neither realistic (if the enemies spawn with 3 magazines in their inventory, how come they fired their weapons on full-auto for a whole minute without expending them already ?) and it makes an important part of the economy irrelevant. The various games and mods constantly make compromises on what loot the player is randomized to get, it's always going to be "unrealistic", but that sort of un-realism is going to be necessary, unless you want to end up in an economy like Swartz Mod, where NPCs have literally HUNDREDS of kilograms' worth of weapons on them because the mod makes the stalkers drop everything they have in their inventory.
what am I missing?
You need to [sp]Go to the middle-rooms connecting the two lower hallways, then look for a trolley to jump on and from there reach the ventilation system that's almost at the roof level, the vent has the grating broken. It's the trolley that isn't a physics-based trolley[/sp].
Okay, so I'm in LA's agroprom underground. I've found this: [sp]Ventilation system trolley.[/sp] What even is that? I've been up and down the place a few times now searching for it, what am I missing?
Wow, that was pretty cool. Did X18, heading back through forest in my car with tons of loot but im low on gas, so in the pitch black of night i have to go off the road through the forest, up and down hills where i can't tell if im about to drive off a steep edge, having my car go tumbling around. It's really tense and fun.
I ran out of gas finally, so I gotta leave my car in forest, put a marker down, and lug what i can back. (my fault though, I've never bought a can of gas before)

Also, you can push your car when you run out of gas, and if you turn the steering wheel it locks so you can have it turn while you push.
Honestly, i fucking love this. It really feels like I'm trying to survive, and it's also a situation engineered by my own lack of foresight, not because the game decided to force it to be this way.

what a well-balanced upgrade system

Hey I'm looking for a mod/merge for soc that allows free play from the start, unrestricted ai, and more maps
Doom'sFreeLURK will always be the best freeplay mod for SoC. No new maps though IIRC.
Could you get me a link for that please? Does it include unrestricted ai?
Just got invited to Survarium Beta.
Welp, at least now I have something to play till LA gets some patches.

I do believe stalkers in Doom's Mod Merge have unrestricted AI.
i wonder if hi_flyer is gonna migrate OLR to the LA engine. it would be seriously awesome if he did
Who was the guy that wanted to make the changing suit texture mod for LA?
the model pack uses Csky hands so it's doable now.

.44 magnum is still not there
I swear there was intended to be more ammo on enemies but a change to how ammo was handled seems to cause them to spawn with very little primary ammo. I only assume this because when you're given a weapon (excluding pistols) the game will only add 3 rounds or so to your inventory. I assume that was suppose to be 3x30 instead; there's also loot you find with the same issue of only 3 rounds instead of what I'd assume would be the equivalent of 3 magazines.
What is the cheapest place I can buy STALKER from? Steam has it for about 15 euro's right now.
Lost Alpha is free, if you don't wanna give cash to sergei.
I've been trying to set up LA to play on my TV. A problem I've run in to is a strange flickering white sort of outline on all the grass/vegitation. It flickers when you stand still, but while the screen is moving at all it goes away entirely. Tried AO, AA, AF. None of these settings seem to change it at all. The screen is also a high refresh rate and locking it to 60 doesn't do anything either. Any ideas? I don't get motion sickness, but it's kindof making me woozy to look at for too long.
Lost Alpha seems pretty much unplayable for me at the moment, it crashes everytime I load a save after I've died and also seems to crash randomly after playing for about 10-15 minutes.
Anyone else getting these sort of issues or have any advice on changing some settings to make it more stable?
Don't use quicksave after you die, go to the menu and press 'last save' and it works. Dunno about the others sorry.
In other news, Wild Territory in LA is awesome.
So I tried LA.
The bottles you find lying around are wonky colored. The upgrade/repair system barely works and I needed to drop weapons to repair them. Upgrading doesn't work.
Also, I've quicksaved a few times, but when I finally died, it said I didn't have any saves and wouldn't let me use Last Save.
All in all, it's pretty decent, but I'm gonna put it off a bit until all the bugs and shit are sorted out.

Lost Alpha is a bad way to start the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. Either you don't like the game at all or you'll just end up being disappointed at the main line S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games because Lost Alpha had more/better features.
Not to be an elitist or someone who wants to tell new players a 'proper' way to go at it, but if you start with SoC --> CS --> CoP and then mods for all of the games, then play Lost Alpha when it's finally stable you're going to have much more fun than one would if they would just start with Lost Alpha and work their way down from that, especially since Lost Alpha isn't current at it's best shape, it's incredibly atmospheric but it's plagued by crashes and if you go back to the old games' levels, you'll be underwhelmed by how "timid" they feel in comparison but if you start with the regular games, they don't feel any inferior at all.

There's a fix for the repair system among other things.
Repair/upgrade system fix:

Also if you're on 32 bit, you need to remove msvcp120, msvcp120b and msvcr120.dll from the "bins" folder.

Playing Lost Alpha has both allowed me to appreciate the work the devs put into it, and the original series more for what I think they did right.
I love LA, but was it just me or was X18 [sp]not really that scary? I didn't like the lack of music, and I found it kind of funny, honestly.[/sp]
[sp]There were a few jumpscares, and the skeleton one was well done and probably the only one that got me on edge, but wtf was that skeleton one? was that supposed to be an illusion by the burer nearby or something?[/sp]

Did you watch the cutscene [sp]With the scientist guy who goes in the portal and dies and do it yourself like me, I honestly expected to be teleported away somewhere.[/sp]

[sp] I was laughing to hard at how cheesey and placeholder the cut scenes felt. Why are the test subjects wearing leather coats, and that scene where one of them enters the teleporter. [/sp]
The game also crashes once you deliver the wire to Sahkarov and talk to him again; any fix for that?
