Hey everyone, I'm currently writing a little written in-character journal for my experience through Shadow of Chernobyl. Would you guys/gals enjoy seeing it after I'm finished with my playthrough? It's not really anything special.
The leveling in LA is epic but as far as the story and cutscenes go, I don't think they really understood what they were doing.
Yeh, quite a shame. Phenomenal levels, but that which fills them and connects them together by story is very lacking.
Fix the A-Life into at least SoC activity levels (in that there are at least few smart_terrains of respawning enemies in every map and they migrate from another level or something), remove the horrible cutscenes, put some fail-safes into the story(if important plot characters die or become hostile, it's gg and game over) and remove silly restrictions from entering levels and Lost Alpha would be actually pretty good.
So far I'm liking LA but I've only gone as far as just receiving the mission to go into garbage to get info on Strelok
I got to X-18, I rage quit after that "cut-scene" [sp]that the bloodsucker spawns from afterwards.[/sp] They could have done much simpler things and it would have been x1000 better, and EASIER. Like, no animations - just reuse a drunk / damage shader, use ~spooky~ audio filters on the same dialog, and [sp][I]then[/I] spawn that bloodsucker in the other room behind the player.[/sp] Easier and better.
It'd be nice to collect a big pile of complaints and see if anyone is willing to do a Recut of Lost Alpha, at least in the main storyline department. The whole thing in of itself isn't bad per se, but the presentation was anywhere between fairly decent to downright retarded. But it's probably nothing that cannot be fixed, I'd bet.

Well it kinda looks like shit. I don't think the X-ray engine is made for anything even remotely cinematic.

Lighting in X-ray is really fucking cool, too bad the shadows are always fucking hard as hell which makes it look like shit some of the time. And you can't really use x-ray for cinematic stuff because the camera is all floaty and shit and the animations are clunky as hell too.

Marked One goes mad for a moment and loses consciousness, and that cutscene happens. Stalker seems to truly kick in when it can take you out with one shot from a realistic distance.
