Were they smoking LSD when they made the storyline
Considering that [sp]The Freedom base is one hill away from the lab? Maybe. Probably. At least a part of the team.[/sp]
So....since nobody answered me last time, is LA worth getting now?

It's still buggy, the AI still sucks, and the storyline is an LSD-inspired mess.
but the maps are pretty at least.
So it's up to you really.
[sp]It's an indefinitely long chase scene[/sp] [sp]through a ridiculous maze of laboratory corridors[/sp] [sp]in which Strelok is being chased by Cyber Strelok [/sp] [sp]because he broke the guy's security levels[/sp] [sp]despite the fact that raising them to such a degree that he had to POINT HIS FINGER IN STRELOK'S FACE was obviously not going to stop Strelok from going on.[/sp]
Ugh, so... This happens? It actually does? Well it's funny because that's exactly the reason I waited for Lost Alpha, to not have to put up with this very stuff in Russian mods that add new story.
I mean, free masons/illuminaty - sure, okay. Who cares. [sp]Cyber-Strelok[/sp] though... marks the end of my playthrough. I noticed how Dezowave started to just completely give up somewhere around Yantar and Dead city with those locations both being devoid of absolutely everything even remotely interesting and empty as fuck, but...

I know, right? It's so disappointing on so many levels. It's like they decided just inject a can of cheese-wiz into our hard-drives :v:
This is absolutely horrible in all departments. In fact, this is probably the one an only moment where the game completely and utterly jumped the shark. Yet I can't stop playing it for some strange reason.
The Wish Granter in The Garbage in Priboi was an ass pull, but every time I descend underground in Lost Alpha I just don't know what to expect anymore. At this rate I'd be better off if I reskinned my SEVA suit to look like a clown because this sure as hell plays like a bad Eastern European comedy.
I don't care though. I'm still [sp]at lab X16..I think, anyway. "Don't worry, it's just a bionic brain" :v: [/sp] I'm gonna keep playing and finish LA. I want to see how bad it is with my own eyes. At the very least, it'll be a laugh.

I dunno, I thought it jumed the shark at about the point I'm at. But I'm not done with the game yet, so...
With all this hate coming in, I'm just here to say that I enjoyed it, it certainly wasn't like playing SOC at the first time (I'm 99.9% sure that it's impossible to top that now anyways), but I really liked it. Certainly more than COP and CSKY. But maybe it's because I'm looking from modding POV most of the time, so I'm just thinking of how I will use those beautiful levels...

I wonder how they felt bringing this into their 6 years of work. There has been someone who wrote this, it's terrifying on its own, but everyone else agreed to script it, to animate it, to voice it, to implement it into the story, that's plain horrible. I mean, there's always a place for artistic vision and creative re-imagining, hence why I don't have much problem with illuminaty stuff on its own, but overall this is badly written fanfic if I ever saw one.

Maybe because it being bad or good depends on you, and I personally would have been more than glad to help them out during those 6 years. Speaking about helping out, I'm sure if they invited more members for that, it would have been a much faster progress. Being all sneaky and closed up is one of the major things I disliked about the project.

Well, I don't say that I'm not enjoying it, but when you play Lost Alpha you see some shit.
I mean, the entire base is a crapton of lost potential. How nobody on the team wondered if what they were doing behind the showcases was any good just baffles me.

A lot of my hate originates from something close to your viewpoint. I see these levels. I see the amount of work put into it. I appreciate that. I feel the unmatched atmosphere, I see the changes they made to the engine, it's colossal.
And then I experience the amount of work they put into the actual universe and world, what makes it move... and I can't help but feel like half-way through development someone hijacked the efforts and decided to take a shit on it. It's the same feeling I get from buttloads of Russian mods. A lot of them have great atmosphere, good features, quality new content, but they all have something that makes it unbearable for me. Botched A-life, artificial difficulty, half-assed implementation of build contents, ports from CoD, above all else, terrible, terrible plots and general writing that is done by 30-something years old people, but feels like teenager's first story.

You used way too many abbreviations in a single sentence.

Exactly. No quality control at all.
I hope the publicity behind Lost Alpha's release changes the opinions of people over similar mistakes commited in mods. Looking back at some releases made I see that a lot of them were fairly flawed, some outright disgusting, and I think the whole community needs to pull it's head out of it's ass regarding the mod quality. After Lost Alpha of all mods suffered from the same issues plaguing hundreds of others I just won't tolerate seeing people pulling this kind of stuff anymore.

This thread keeps discussing "Russian mods", and how there is apparently a "buttload" of them. Could you by any chance give specific examples? Generally, what places for Stalker modding should one explore other than Moddb?

GSC-Game.com forums is a good one-stop shop for finding out about new non-Moddb mods in an english language.
Thank you, and the Russian language since I am one?
Seems to be a good choice.

Is there some sort of place you need to be to get the upgraded PDA with the music player and stuff?
Could someone try adding fuel canisters to Barman and Sid? Maybe make them 2000-4000RU a pop
LA's levels cannot be ported to CoP. The X-Ray 1.6 SDK can't handle them.
I disagree.
@about LA: I think a big issue was they went through a handful of scripters/coders during that time.
Anyone else have a black sky in Lost Alpha?
Is it just me or are .45 pistols a bit underpowered in LA? With the P99 I can down the average mutant in 2-4 shots, have over twice the magazine capacity and a much higher firerate compared to the P250 as well as ammo taking up far less space in the hotbar and that just strikes me as quite odd because .45s should pack some good punch against flesh.
I'm still using a Makarov, there's nothing like running out of primary ammo and switching to something you might as well throw at them.
I'll be honest apart from the P99 I haven't seen any other secondary besides stuff I can buy at the bar.
I've been using the HPSA v:v:v
Fuck you Kora all the way.
It was actually pretty bad, but I almost never needed to use it. I just like 1911s. :v:
Turns out using an RPG in X2 can spawn the dreaded lag anomaly.

anyone have any recommended CoP mods since the dark souls II network is down, the rasputinator blog link is down thats why im asking
I was using the revolver you find early, or at least one I found early. Had like 100 rounds that it came with, which I've completely expended. Which is fine because I never use my pistol anyway. Miss the two generic weapon slots of Call of Pripyat, shotgun+assault rifle all day.
I really liked the 1911 in CoP Redux, in LA though it's shite and the model is horrible, it reminds me of the "deagle" in Soldier of Fortune. I've been using the P220 but yeah, it does feel underpowered for a .45.
Well...
I beat Lost Alpha. The good ending. Not sure how to feel. Every time I was getting drawn in, the cutscenes ripped me out. Leave that shit to mystery, yo - stop fucking trying to explain EVERY LITTLE GOD DAMN EVENT WITH SHODDY ANIMATIONS. Fuck. I must have spent about a straight 30-60 minutes watching cutscenes.
And then after it all, you get literal remix of the normal good ending under a shitty green filter with different pretext. Despite it, I'm still going to rewind and try the Monolith ending. :v:
