So overall, what's everyone's opinions on LA? Personally, I'm disappointed.
Love the levels, happy for a new storyline, not enjoying the bugs but I haven't had anything game-breaking. Performance for me is great, and it looks awesome too of course. Overall, happy to have my hands on some new Stalker material. And the mods that will be built upon Lost Alpha will be glorious.
So overall, what's everyone's opinions on LA?

Personally, I'm disappointed.
You summed it up for me. It started off very interesting, and it just kept going downhill.
okay im trying to play stalkersoup and i waited like 5 minutes since the game froze right after i got into the game, i tried that like 10 times but they were still unresponsive do i have to wait an even longer time? this is all of me trying to start a new game

LA is a non-profit release so they could have easily used something like Atmosfear 3 if they asked permission or something.
I don't disagree with you on most points, but here you are wrong. CrommCruac, the author of Atmosfear and Absolute addons, was part of the team, so LA naturally and by design has its own special version of Atmosfear.
I know the point of LA wasn't to necessarily "improve" SHOC but when you do a remake like that you have the option of improving things that the original lacked or did poorly and they didn't take the chance to do any of it. I mean LA doesn't even have proper A-Life for fucks sake which means that its long-term replayability is literally zero. STALKER modding is the best it has ever been and they chose to use nothing that the community has created for the series. LA is a non-profit release so they could have easily used something like Atmosfear 3 if they asked permission or something. Same goes for any other mod which could have easily improved the experience. As it stands it seriously lacks features
Almost 2 years ago they had a deadline to finish LA. They had the source code, so at this point they wrote, that they couldn't release it for free, and they had to remove all code/content, which were not theirs. We can see the result now - they used only their own stuff, and LA's gameplay was surpassed by other mods. Ok, screw LA. Better watch another masterpiece from Gunslinger and stay hyped.
After all these years Florence really was telling the truth. How have we forgotten about that?
Makes one think about what is it about stalker that made it become more than just a game. I mean lets not get overly dramatic and hyperbolic, but Stalker has had quite the impact on people in various areas, sometimes leaving the video game zone completely. [editline]9th May 2014[/editline] It kind of has a legacy, if you know what I mean.
Who seen the rainbow good ending to Lost Alpha? :suicide: WARNING SPOILERS: http://youtu.be/kEjUM6fAUEs [editline]9th May 2014[/editline]
After all these years Florence really was telling the truth. How have we forgotten about that?
I mentioned it a few times but people either ignored it or thought I was being an asshole.
After all these years Florence really was telling the truth. How have we forgotten about that?
At least I was more lucid that I remembered. I feel slightly less guilty now. (And yes, I am Florence. This is an alt.)
Ok, screw LA. Better watch another masterpiece from Gunslinger and stay hyped.
Damn, heavy Contract Wars influence here. All those guns. I love it!
So overall, what's everyone's opinions on LA?
The non-existent A-Life is it's biggest problem, everything else I can live with. The levels are great but because of the no A-Life, there's rarely any reason to visit them. Hostile NPCs do not travel, they either spawn back into place without any care whether the player is right there looking at the spawn points or not or not at all. The general mechanics and features are fine / great, I really like the Build 1935 feel that is present and while the story and it's cutscenes are pretty horrid-tier at times, that's nowhere near as big of a problem as the aforementioned lack of any kind of movement in the maps. What's even worse is that Dez0wave seem to deflect any kind of criticisms of the A-Life with a "not dead, just not flooded :)"-bs which is untrue, the A-Life is dead aside from a few mutant spawns.
Hopefully when the advanced SDK comes we'll see better mods come to light.
Have they announced any sort of timeline for that ?
At least I was more lucid that I remembered. I feel slightly less guilty now. (And yes, I am Florence. This is an alt.)
It's all one big sad affair now, I guess. And it's a shame, too, it could have been a great mod if the last two years left no effect on its development. Hopefully when the advanced SDK comes we'll see better mods come to light. Perhaps in sooner times, too.
Who seen the rainbow good ending to Lost Alpha? :suicide: WARNING SPOILERS: http://youtu.be/kEjUM6fAUEs
I think the pan flute music is really what gets me about this fucking ending
One thing I always found sad to see about mods is that because of their nature, they more often then not never finish a truly released state due to various reasons on the author part (inability, real life, education etc.) or are overly ambitious and start a lot of things but in the end it ends up with a lot of halfway done things and not a single really properly working one. Not necessarily talking about LA here, it just strongly reminds me of this.
Oh my god. I'm... I don't know what to say anymore. I'm. Done. Total. Fucking. Disaster.
Tell me the story behind it.
Who seen the rainbow good ending to Lost Alpha? :suicide: WARNING SPOILERS: http://youtu.be/kEjUM6fAUEs
It looks even worse than Mass Effect 3 ending.
Who seen the rainbow good ending to Lost Alpha? :suicide: WARNING SPOILERS: http://youtu.be/kEjUM6fAUEs
I didn't see no rainbow when I finished the 1.300. Must only be in the leaked version. Plus the last cutscene was just like the intro, it was from drawn pictures, it didn't use SOC ending like in this video. Also I'm pretty sure that there was no flute music, it was continuous finale piece, which I love.. Meanwhile russian internet journal http://disgustingmen.com/ took an interview from Grigorovich about LA and modding.
И создание фанатских модов — это не следствие популярности S.T.A.L.K.E.R., это причина по которой когда-нибудь появится на свет S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2.

The reason behind modmaking is not popularity of S.T.A.L.K.E.R., the reason is to have S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 to be released some day.
And after the interview.

After having a nice interview with Sergei Grigorovich, creator of S.T.A.L.K.E.R., I thanked him for all the answers and we had a very interesting talk: Sergei: You're welcome. This is interesting for me too. Viktor: Can I think of it as of non official Stalker 2 announce? Sergei: Don't think so. But your idea has the right to exist.
so, yay..?
To be honest, I can't work up the enthusiasm to be excited for any scrap of evidence that STALKER 2 may yet come to fruition. Every mod or game that grabs my attention seems to either have extremely long development cycles, or exists in a shambolic state of undeath. Better to just find something that actually exists to occupy my time, and cease following each shred of rumour. At least then i'll be pleasantly surprised if said things actually do get released, and won't have the leaden baggage of hype to tarnish it. Especially since e.g. I expected a lot more out of LA than I got. At least LA is basically the ultimate base for mods with it's levels, though I don't envy the modder who takes upon themselves the task of fixing the Alife.
*sneaks back in while no-ones looking* <_< Sooo...not impressed by Lost Alpha.
Tell me the story behind it.
No idea. It's just pathetic to have this in the game in your face (not even hidden in the game files in an unused string). But want to know what's so sad about that? [sp]Lox was the one who did the cutscenes (ex: ending, pretty sure he came up with the illuminati stuff, etc). To see that is just...[/sp]

I mean, I know [sp]that Lox is a Russian modder and that's probably why[/sp] the story's unforgivable, but I really wanna know if there was any proper direction the mod was heading for until the non-Dez0wave content had to be scrapped. ^I don't know why the roles are reversed. Ghost should be the one saying it, not the player. And that's totally hetero compared to that weird "let's go to Alaska together and be together foreva brotha" at the end (that was not written by me). As for the direction, it was always haphazard. That's the way it was developed. I'll just quote myself since I already explained this to someone:
Basically, the story was strung together as we went along. The major events in the story (Deadcity, meeting Doc at the Swamps, etc) were more or less put together until the Generators. Then, we wondered, "Wait... what happens next exactly?" As the gap-filler (you'll see me credited as a "writer", though I filled out what they wanted written, sometimes having a creative input), I proposed something along the line of: "The scientists screwed around with the noosphere too much, creating a proto-sentience inside it which ended up manifesting as the Zone after the first Blowout, etc." However something else was chosen: the Illuminati stuff. The guy who suggested, if I remember right, was also the guy responsible for scripting the cut-scenes and animating them. The vision at the Garbage, the guy walking into the Bar, the vision at the Swamps, etc, were then added, and the whole Illuminati shit was brought into the story.
And for example, the lines from the "god" in the good ending (:v:) were from a rough draft of my proposed scenario, but with everything cut out (there was supposed to be a whole conversation that tied everything together, like at the end of SHOC with the C-Con guy, and by that time there was no Illuminati yet). The draft was then hastily implemented because they were rushing, then melded with the Illuminati stuff (was told it was modified to fit the new story?), etc. It's just a mess of stuff slapped together which I can't even recognize.
That someone was me, and you never said you heavily suspect that Lox was the one who came up with the bullshit. I think I can try and find out what he thinks about it, with some luck. Just his thoughts on this stuff, no names of course.
Suspect is probably not the right word. I just don't know if there was somebody else who gave him the idea or if it was him alone. Because from all that I remember, Lox told me about the new Illuminati stuff for the story and sent along a video to showcase (this one exactly : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCF4xuinhD4) and seemed to act as if he had suggested the idea (you never know, his English was broken and I couldn't make sense of it if I didn't rephrase my questions). But since apparently it's fine to have in-game text filled with curses at him, there's not much use in hiding names anymore.
