K so I'm trying to install SGM 2.1 but not sure how to do it correctly. I know you need the main mod, patch 1+2 and the English trans. What do I do after that? Alright so I got as far as getting all the fixes as well. If I get the integration pack, do I need the AF3 merge patch, fix, and dynamic news merge?
This is STALKER were talking about... If you want a good story, you need to hire writers, NOT let designers and coders make a story
Yeah stack overflows happen in Soup a lot. Wild territory seems to be the biggest offender of it, other than occasional stack trace: and out of memory crashes it's the only place where I crash a lot.
Yeah, I'm trying to just get out of there, since it seems like I have a certain amount of time before I crash. What's weird is there isn't really anything going on there, it's pretty quiet at the moment. Yeah that's what I'm looking at. Do I need the
SGM 2.1 Af3 merge patch SGM 2.1 + AF3 merge patch SGM 2.1 Af3 merge fix SGM 2.1 + AF3 merge patch fix SGM 2.1 AF3 Dynamic news merge AtmosFear 3 and Dinamic News for SGM 2.1 fixed.rar
if I get the integration pack?
This is STALKER were talking about... If you want a good story, you need to hire writers, NOT let designers and coders make a story
...They did. The problem is that they told the writers to write this stuff. If you see a few pages back Florence said lead designer told him to write mystery crap and Illuminati garbage even at his objection. But being assigned to different tasks (ie. scripter, level designer) doesn't mean anything. I bet I could come up with a much better plot and twist than they did without even trying.
What he said ^
This is STALKER were talking about... If you want a good story, you need to hire writers, NOT let designers and coders make a story
[editline]14th May 2014[/editline] Also, MISERY had it's own writers as well who made up their own stuff along with Troj's input (not assignment) and frankly, that was being dumped as 'amateur' stuff as well.

I ran 2.1 without any of those and the only thing I've noticed is the news messages still being in Russian. You could just give it a try I guess, worst case you just reinstall basic 2.1. THe guy might respond on there if you ask him it, as well.
What he said ^ [editline]14th May 2014[/editline] Also, MISERY had it's own writers as well who made up their own stuff along with Troj's input (not assignment) and frankly, that was being dumped as 'amateur' stuff as well.
The hundreds of new dialog that Damjam wrote are good. It gives the stalkers personality and it fits the theme. I may not like all the game design choices made in Misery 2 nor do I personally like the gameplay but it does have good and strong theme and it follows it well; it's not all over the place. That is a very important thing in game design.
Wow, that's awesome. Yeah, another thing STALKER is lacking is in weird anomalies or some fucked up physics. Thankfully LA adds some of this. And there was this russian mod for CoP that added crazy stuff in order to make the story of the game more believable.
Anomalies in X-Ray could use an overhaul, in my humble opinion. Right now, it seems like they're too simple to spot and avoid and they're not very imaginative, considering the fact that they're supposed to be localized alterations in space and time that defy the laws of physics. There's so much unexploited potential in X-Ray for creating truly amazing anomalies. Very few anomalies make use of visual filtering, for example. (Visual filtering, like your FOV getting black and white and grainy when entering a field of radiation.) Something like, a psychedelic brightening/intensifying of colors and wavy effects when entering a psi-emission anomaly, would be pretty cool. Even better if it was accompanied by very subtle whispering and tinnitus. Or fish-eye lensing. That'd be far more immersive than a basic purple overlay and the player character going "UGH, AGH" every couple seconds from taking damage. Randomized space anomalies would be cool, too, though I imagine it'd be harder to do this because you'd need visually identical areas in the same map to achieve this effect properly. But imagine how trippy it'd be to enter a house in one part of the map, then leave it, only to end up on the other side of the map. I loved the space anomaly in the Jupiter area of CoP, it took me a minute to realize what was happening. Displaced shadows of people/things/creatures appearing and disappearing would be mad cool too. (Metro 2033 did that really well) Spontaneously floating objects, or areas of weaker gravity, would make for some cool anomalies too. How about invisible bridges and phantom ringing telephones? Or the sounds of people or children playing when walking through abandoned dwellings? It would be crazy if objects would disappear when you weren't looking, too. Enter a room full of furniture, only to turn around and see that all the furniture has vanished! Maybe certain objects could have an iridescent sheen that appears briefly, only to go away forever as you stare at it waiting for it to do it again... This next idea is a little out there, but if a crow landed on a windowsill, stared at you and quietly uttered something backwards in Russian before flying away, I'd just about shit myself. Stalker needs way more paranormal stuff going on, there just isn't enough to truly evoke the feeling of a place that defies the laws of physics and I hate that I can just sprint across the map because of the fact that most current anomalies are plainly obvious and make a lot of damn noise. The Zone ought to be mystical as fuck and right now it really isn't.

Does anybody have a link to that?

EDIT: Like, seriously, the kinder in Pripyat? No fucking way.
Imagine this as a random but scripted event... walking down the road at night when the player's character stops and a PDA message comes up: "... Why do I feel like I'm being watched ?" You reassume control and now, of course, the paranoia sets in... you turn around to see a distant, silent pair (or trio... eep) of eyes, staring at you, then they fade away into the darkness. Yikes! [editline]14th May 2014[/editline]
Why weren't you in the LA team ffs???
Because: 1. I'm not Russian, 2. I'm not schizophrenic either, this was an LA team requirement.

It's a shame the story is so over the place, if it had more of this stuff the world would be pretty interesting even without the need to encounter enemies more frequently.

The zombies spoiled it for me, though. I don't really like the undead zombies, they're more comical than they are frightening... now, if we'd replace them with neutral phantoms/ghosts that would appear briefly before disappearing, that'd be pretty sweet, and would better fit with the Zone, in my opinion. I don't think you should be able to simply gun down everything that moves in the Zone. Also, think of how much goosebumps you'd get if you stumbled into a lone cottage to hear someone quietly whisper "Strelok." The Zone needs more ghosts, damnit! [editline]14th May 2014[/editline] I might start writing STALKER fanfics again, I used to be way more active in this thread but I lost my interest in STALKER for a couple years. [editline]hurrrrr I'm a zombie deeeerrrrr[/editline] "TAK, TAK, SLYEUZHA, HA, HA, BEH, BEEHHH, PAGAAAA"
Maybe loner can use you to write new shit for that Stalker ShoC+ mod
Can I be SHoC+ ideas guy. I swear my ltx editing skills are far superior to that of Dezowave(even if it's not a huge achievment)
Friendly reminder, these people tried to bring actual RPG-like progression and skill system in LA. You can still see the tab in PDA. Plus the fact that Stalker games... are not exactly the pinnacle of FPS mechanics (to be blunt they're quite shit at it) and won't be any fun at all without their thick atmosphere and plots that actually support it, as opposed to tearing it apart.
The Faction War mod had some basic leveling and it worked alright. None of the abilities were gamebreaking or anything.

In my head it goes like this: Brain Scorcher/Yantar installation takes a victim, and from there stalkan is not really living anymore (they're far more resilient, for instance). The zombie then starts slowly decaying and rotting, until he can't hold weapons anymore. So civ zombies are the very same armed zombies, but older. Yeah that requires psy facilities to somehow not only turn people's brains into a goo, but also somehow turn them into actual undead, but how else would they be so hard to kill? [editline]15th May 2014[/editline]
The Faction War mod had some basic leveling and it worked alright. They're just stalkers who got their brains broiled by all the radiation, aren't they? You're right that they degrade over time, so eventually they lose the ability to even use weapons, hence the unarmed ones. I assume their gear and everything rots off too, so you're left with them running around in basic clothes. And if they're civvies, well they probably had no weapon experience to begin with, so they just start out as melee. They are a little goofy, but they can be creepy in the right circumstances, like hearing them but not being able to find them right away.

Because brain-dead stalkans are not exactly masters of stealth, so they don't 'live' long enough on the surface to get to that stage, I don't think.

I tend to play FPS games for the story anyway. I mean yeah even after I've beaten the game I tend to come back and play it more if the gameplay is fun, but if I wasn't interested in the story I'd just play something like Team Fortress 2 or Counter-Strike.
They're just stalkers who got their brains broiled by all the radiation, aren't they?
There are varying interpretations of this ; the original interpretation had them be something akin to an in-between of a degeneration through zombification and them being Zone's own creation :
Zombies are like children of the Zone, its creatures. The Zone changed their bodies, their flesh turned into a new regenerating substance. Zombies are almost immortal, you can only stop them for the time needed for the damaged flesh to regenerate. Stalkers rumor the zombies are the molds of the killed people.

Yeah that requires psy facilities to somehow not only turn people's brains into a goo, but also somehow turn them into actual undead, but how else would they be so hard to kill?
That's a good point, but it's answered partially in the description that they were affected by the Zone, hence their unnatural regeneration ability.
