So I didn't pay much attention to stalker news when dark souls 2 came out. What's the consensus on Lost Alpha?
Apparently story wise it's shit, but gameplay wise it's great At least that's what I can see from what people say here. Haven't tried it myself yet.

Is. This. <333 And now something comes to mind ... Why didn't any of the original stalker games had remotely as much trees in forests like this or tilted / fallen trees? Those fallen trees add more than 2 things to the scene; Believability and spots where you can hide stuff or create cool anomalies etc. (Like the hanhing ones)

Honestly, I'd say that Red Forest in that regard needs a lot of reworking the most. Either that, or it should be renamed to "Brown hole with sort of a lot but not too much radiation and also a few mutated trees covering a part of the area that you might also not be interested in traversing." It really needs to be a navigational clusterfuck complete with off-the-charts rad levels.
this is what annoys the fuck out of me when i would read all those "hurr durr lol japan fuck you for killing whales" these people are literally dousing themselves in lethal amounts of radiation to contain the spread so that it doesn't fuck the entire world over, and you're getting a little pissy about some fuckin whales that will die out in the next 10,000 years? fuck off.
To be fairly flip, the choice's between dispossessing a great deal of people now, and slowly inflicting the same damage over time - you needn't rank one over the other as far as the state of the Earth or the obligations foisted on the people within it's concerned, even if it's clear enough as well that the cost of series of moral obligations foisted upon you is far more than the sum of its individual parts - why bother using one to deny the other, then? That'd do the world the least good.
What's the consensus on Lost Alpha?
It's an incredibly troubled product but some of it's flaws are being repaired as we speak. Mainly the A-Life has received some boost (it used to be dead, now there's some semblance of traveling A-life in the maps) and the A.I went from Build 1935-levels of castrated (for example, you could clear out the entire Agroprom institute of soldiers at night without anyone even shooting back) to something that functions okay. The additions to the story range from decent (some of the low-key original stuff they added) to okay (cut sections from the original design document but fit into the flow of the game better) to straight up horribad (some [sp]secret society bullshit, complete with Deus Ex musics[/sp] ). The entire thing reeks, as some other people have pointed out, like there were two teams working on the game and one wanted to make a serious, atmospheric game and the other just wanted to put some childish stuff in just for a gag. The plot also has few, if any, failsafes and having several permasaves around is borderline mandatory because it's incredibly easy to make story-vital characters hostile and they could die randomly. The atmosphere is incredibly great and thick, sometimes you forget all about the mod's problems when you're just stalking the bits between the story sections but when you arrive to said story sections or get a random lolctdoutofnowhere , that really takes a sledgehammer to the atmosphere's knees which sucks, because it could otherwise be so good. [editline]herp[/editline] To say something nice about it, the levels are amazing and the basic game mechanics are good, things like Blowouts are integrated pretty admirably into the game and the cars are absolute lifesavers. It still feels like a fresh S.T.A.L.K.E.R. experience even with it's current shortcomings. It's not a terrible and wasted effort, it's a game/mod that's generally good but compounded by some definitely frustrating issues.
supposed to have his head going fucking insane?
I believe so, yes. I think it was done to boost the effect of it being "otherworldly" or something.
That's unfortunate to hear, but I guess nothing is perfect. I think I'll wait until some of the flaws are repaired until I give it a shot.
Testing some new shaders [t]http://media.moddb.com/images/games/1/9/8059/00444.jpg[/t] [sp]jk it's NEYA7, a mod for Crysis based on STALKER which looks cool. Previously known as CrySector 23[/sp]
That's hot. Is that CE3 or 2?
CE3, iirc.
Went to Comicon Dallas on Saturday. Was the only dressed STALKER there but 3 or 4 people recognized (one even greeted with Cheeki Breeki) and took pictures. Here is pretty much the only good picture of me [t]http://i.imgur.com/Bi0NXbw.jpg[/t]

Come up to people and talk about your holy lord and savior through a very threatening gas mask filter. :v:

Anyone would want to help out and test my upcoming add-on for LA? It all seems to work fine, but a couple more hands might notice more things. Mainly it's inventory space (each suit has a backpack with different amount of space in it, each item can take different amount of space, measured in liters), slow medkits/anti-rads and different take on health regeneration (only regens if you are in tip-top shape). Also some smaller things changed, as well as weapon being hidden after using food, medkits, etc. [t]http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/26/25079/XOSWIP.jpg[/t] if anyone wants to help out, they can send me a PM in moddb : moddb page: http://www.moddb.com/mods/xos-add-ons-for-lost-alpha Or you can reply here, and I could contact you from somewhere else.
Oh and for anyone contemplating playing through Lost Alpha and ignoring the silly plot:
I was bored and I wrote some flavor text for conversations with wandering stalkers. If anyone's adding lines for asking stalkers about local rumors, feel free to use any of these, it's why I made them.

Ever wonder why the lights still work in a lot of these dilapidated old buildings? Yeah, me too...
Haha, that's pretty good. It's not only a lampshade but actually kinda creepy too.
I just bought Clear Sky and I'm going to start in master mode.

[t]http://i.imgur.com/mUsburo.jpg[/t] What the fuck! That's bullshit. [sp]All that brouhaha with Guide to go meet Ghost and now this? I already tried getting to Pripyat from Chernobyl but that was blocked too.[/sp] How can I fix it?
That way is not used afaik, you need to get a door code off the only dead stalker body in the underground, and go the other way. The actual exit is in that dome-like chamber you can remember from CoP.
Oh, good, I was worried that it was the only exit because that's where the quest arrow led. Thank you!
Changelog for Lost Alpha update 1.3002 has been released. It requires a new save game.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/sbsp23g.png[/t] I'm starting to despise Tejas as well, the ignorance is very strong on this one.
Signing yourself on an internet forum is awful
I don't know the context for the debate but the arguing against mods / modding seems to be really bizarre coming from his viewpoint, considering that a vast majority of mods for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. are usually diversifying gameplay and adding if not difficulty, then challenge via new things to explore, new A.I schemes , random spawns and so on and he, as a very long-time resident of GSC-Game.com, which functions nowadays as a place for modders can't wrap his head around the idea that mods aren't the same thing as cheating. Then again, this is the same guy who spent 8 in-game months in each of the Vanilla games in one playthrough, so it doesn't really surprise me that he's a hardcore purist.
He has only played Priboi Story and LA, so I have a feeling that he has never in his entire life even looked at other mods, and thinks that they are made by the forces of evil to reduce the difficulty and insta-give player all the armors and weapons in game on a new game start.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/sbsp23g.png[/t] I'm starting to despise Tejas as well, the ignorance is very strong on this one.
He's kinda delusional. It's like he sees devs as some kind of god and whatever they design is the only right and perfectly balanced way, and anything other than that is automatically cheating because it destroys the purity and eternal balance the devs have created. I remember I've had a similar point of view. When I was a child. I don't know why, but this is a kind of pretty immature, unrealistic way to think. And that isn't even the main complaint, what he says is basically utter bullshit. People who are looking for mods are looking for a new experience, new features, new fresh stuff to put into their game. If they want to have fun and cheat, they download a trainer or edit their savegame or use in built cheats. Besides, sometimes the point isn't to earn something by toily, blood-spilly work, but just to evade that work in a smart way, which imo gives more satisfaction the former could ever give. [editline]22nd May 2014[/editline] Hardcore purists are for the most part fucking deluded anyway.
A bunch of concept art and information for Stalker 2 got leaked again. Metro 2033 and Last Light just got the details revealed on the new versions, awesomely called Redux ;) 2033 Redux is basically the game of 2033 in the Last Light engine, with all the awesome stuff that comes with it [editline]22nd May 2014[/editline] also some of those concepts look fucking awesome
