• S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series Megathread: The Zone will stop the Russians

Oh, I forgot, part of my dream last night was STALKER-based. So there I was in the Zone, doing my shit when some bandits came around. There were a ton of them but I was so pro at shooting they were dropping like flies. At some point, I was down to a sliver of health (yes for some reason I had a HUD) and my weapon had degraded so badly I couldn't use it anymore. At this point I'm hiding in a cave and there's one bandit left. I peek outside to see if I can see him, all I hear is "cheeki breeki cyka" and try to fire my weapon at him but then he killed me and I woke up. Such is life.

I finally got my wish to play as a sniper in Misery mod. What granted this wish? My Recon saves went corrupt on me... I finally had a great loadout: fully modded Seva suit, fully modded AK-105 (w/ scope, grenade launcher, silencer), headlamp, 3 aluminum frames (total carry weight of about 71 kg), all the cocaine and epinephrine I could ever need (great for carrying around lots of loot), plenty of military/science stim packs, and other gems of mine. Now I have to start all over again. At least now I know who/what to avoid.
personally I always preferred the approach of making normal ammo have normal tracers and then separately sell tracer ammo that's 100% tracers but wears down your weapon a bit quicker
Don't you mean normal ammo have no tracers? It bothers me so much all the regular ammo in CoP showing yellow tracers, looks cringeworthy.
Hoping SoC is on sale this summer sale, I need to learn what it's like to kill bandits who keep screaming CYKA.
it will be. I don't think there has been a major sale where the STALKER games didn't have a massive discount
Hoping SoC is on sale this summer sale, I need to learn what it's like to kill bandits who keep screaming CYKA.
Have you played any of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games? Jesus, we've got a fresh loner here! Okay, if you really want to enjoy the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. experience, play all three of them in vanilla before getting any mods. Shadow of Chernobyl is great, possibly the best in the series. Clear Sky is okay (I honestly thought it was buggy, flesh ass) but you should give it a go anyway. Call of Pripyat is a close tie to SoC for how good it is, however, it's a lot shorter. Now, after playing through each one on vanilla, I honestly recommend playing LURK (or redux) for SoC (if you're a true masochist, play LURK). For CoP, I honestly suggest Misery mod (2.1). That mod will truly hammer you down. Also, a few extra tips: Be prepared for lots of bugs, both humorous and annoying (the game will also crash often, because the xray engine isn't all that optimized). Avoid using the abakan in SoC (it is a bullshit weapon and possibly bugged up the ass.) Be quick on your feet and think fast, because the AI will be very unforgiving and every enemy is basically a wizard.
Don't forget to play in Master, it's the only proper way.

Probably not.
I'm fine with that, I mostly meant if it's possible to have the last three rounds of the magazine be tracers or something. Probably not.
It'd be pretty cool if we could set in the ammo config so that every X rounds, fire tracer
Don't forget to play in Master, it's the only proper way.
Ah yes, master difficulty. Or, "Save-every-two-steps-always-reload-shit-pants-who-goes-there" difficulty.
Ah yes, master difficulty. Or, "Save-every-two-steps-always-reload-shit-pants-who-goes-there" difficulty.
It's more balanced than anything else. Except in LURK 1.1 because seriously who the fuck thought that making Tokarev a full auto sniper pistol is a good idea.
Except in LURK 1.1 because seriously who the fuck thought that making Tokarev a full auto sniper pistol is a good idea.
But the guns feel so satisfying.
But the guns feel so satisfying.
Same goes for AA2 and that's pretty balanced, even though the AI is almost vanilla
Two questions: why the ironsight sounds and why the 100% chance of tracers?
Hey Kingo - "ironsight sounds" is really just my way of describing when the audio is triggered, that being when the player raises and lowers their weapon to peer down the sights. This feature will mostly be used to reinforce what kind of armor the player is wearing. For example, bringing a weapon up while wearing the bandit leather jacket will randomly choose from a pool of those iconic "leather creak" sounds (+ some extra foley), which I'll record using my leather jacket :) The actual gun being raised in taken into consideration already, as well. IE the difference between sighting a pistol vs a scoped long rifle. About the tracers - this is just a dev build. I personally find it kind of fun way to observe the ballistics engine, anyway. Who doesn't like seeing how their bullets bounce around off the ground?
I'm picturing Daemonion just shuffling in a leather jacket at a microphone and it makes me giggle a little

Still on my sniper playthrough of Misery mod, and I've encountered 3 pseudogiants already. One by the sawmill (which constantly killed me, since I couldn't run away thanks to the loads of looted stuff I had,) and what might have been two more in the area around Skadovsk. I think it might have been the same pseudogiant the entire time, but I couldn't be sure. A blowout killed it after I got into skadovsk, and I found its lifeless body on the hill bordering the bog/swamp.

oh god the guitar guy
I wish I could make a Stalker costume, but costumes are hard and cost money to make. More and more pseudogiants have been appearing in the Skadovsk/Shevchenko/swamp area. What the hell is happening? They're killing everyone. There's a bug I've noticed while using the M1891/30 in Misery mod. It will sometimes auto-fire. As in, if you fire once or twice it will continue to fire on its own, and this has gotten me shot at/noticed/killed multiple times already. Just a few more rubles and I'll have a new gun... Earlier, I was heading up to the ranger station and heard gunfire. I had come across plenty of dead bodies and a few people duking it out between the buildings. I shot one guy, not knowing he was a regular stalker. Then I took out a bandit nearby. I looted tons of weapons and gear off of them and the remaining bodies. I found a stash in the larger building, and to my surprise it contained a repair kit. I sold everything I had looted except for an StG 54 and the toolkit. I figured I could repair the rifle with the kit and some other materials I had, then sell it. It's worth ~17k rubles, but I'm deciding whether I should sell it or replace my Mosin with it. Any ideas? It does slightly less damage, but is more accurate and has better handling. Also, it's select fire!
I really want to do a one life run of STALKER on a pretty difficult mod. Any suggestions for game/mods?
I really want to do a one life run of STALKER on a pretty difficult mod. Any suggestions for game/mods?
On a difficult mod? I think that's nearly impossible.
I really want to do a one life run of STALKER on a pretty difficult mod. Any suggestions for game/mods?
the soup
I'm going for the challenge here, but uh... I was thinking of doing AMK or Misery, but IDK. That's why I'm asking you guys, I'd prefer a mod that's less crazy like Soup.
AMK for SoC is probably a good choice for your first attempt at a permadeath run. I've seen some streams of people trying to permadeath that and while they've mostly failed, it still seems like a relatively fair mod, like it doesn't throw in a ton of bullshit situations where you'll almost invariably die a thousand times but it mixes things up a little so it's more unpredictable than Vanilla.
