Or OLR 2.0 and OGSE
About Areal, read this thread: http://www.gsc-game.com/main.php?t=community&s=forums&s_game_type=gs&thm_page=1&thm_id=1535&page=1&sort=ASC&sec_id=4#29050
I did my own investigation, they are promoting it as if they are the original team that made STALKER. It only has the graphics artist and some code monkey who worked on Stalker series. One other guy only worked for a small amount of time on Stalker 2.
I love how they have a screenshot of the Marshes on their kickstarter and act like it's concept artwork. I wouldn't touch the project with a ten foot pole. The guys who did all the work on the iconic stuff, like the engine and A-Life are not present on this team.
I was not expecting this. Forget about Areal then...
On second thought, maybe I'll give it a chance. I just hope they improve the A-life so the enemies aren't psychic, and make a much larger environment. As in, SoC big.
Or OLR 2.0 and OGSE
OGSE needs to hurry up. I want my rotating safe knobs.
OGSE needs to hurry up. I want my rotating safe knobs.
Really, it's going to be very cool to play all those these revamped russian mods.
And oh god if someone someday decides to mix OGSE and LA....
So, any of you guys saw the draft for Areal's Kickstarter page?

Looks like we're in for STALKER's third or fourth spin-off.
The funding for this is going to go to infinity and beyond.
Anything I miss in the past 4 months stalker related? Haven't had internet the past 4 months (well still don't, but nothing I can do there)
Lost Alpha released, Lost Alpha overhyped.
But nanomach- I mean, radiation.
I like when post-apoc settings have vibrant flora / fauna, though.
I like it because, even though it's only shown in the concepts, it might just be the first post-apoc game that won't be BROWN GRAY BLACK DULL SAD ANGRY FOGGY RAINLAND OF SAD BROWN GRAY DEAD PUPPY GAS MASK BE SAD AND ALONE.

Not to shit on every other's aesthetic, but anomalous aesthetics these days often get forced into the brown and gray grimdark sequence, rather than something out of this world. It leads me to believe that most people are slowly starting to create a false image of what STALKER looks like.

The only reason I don't absolutely love it is because of the shitty marathon simulator the game becomes after a few hours of doing the main quest.

Careful, mate. Your words can hurt people.
Im just going to say that atm the beta of Survarium is not representative of what the majority of the game will be.
For a beta the game looks pretty awesome, the sounds are very nicely designed, and the weapons feel good. On the other hand the current PvP is p. much the same old same old FPS, with a few nice touches. Apparently you can find artifacts inside anomalies during PvP, and you can also place things like bear traps. The bear traps are basically mines but I like the fact that you get 3 of them and they dont alert everyone that you are there. Ammo is actually fairly limited depending on what you take with you. On my setup with a mosin and a sawed off shotgun I can only carry 20 rounds for each.
The gear that you can equip is also nice, with different pants, shirts, masks, helmets, gloves and backpacks being available. There is also a faction-based unlock system, where you unlock gear by ranking up with the different factions. Each faction also gives you in-game goals to complete, such as get 6 kills, get a certain K/D, get 5 headshots etc.
Its looking good for now and I look forward to seeing it progress.
wow, I just watched the Areal pitch video and it is literally 90% stalker footage
that's pretty stupid
They want everyone to notice that they try to make Areal as Stalker as they can. Stupid in my opinion too. We can only hope at the moment. At least we don't lose anything if the game turns out to be a fiasco.
I actually have high hopes for Survarium. It could be the Stalker co-op that I've always wanted. I really, really hope Vostok doesn't fuck it up.
The Areal kickstarter is up:

I might pledge further down the line. I'm tempted by having a new stalker-like game, but all this digging around by people doesn't give me the best hopes.
The Areal kickstarter is up:

Are they opening themselves up to any legal vulnerabilities by using so much footage from the STALKER IP (which I'm assuming none of them have any ownership of) while trying to raise real money, without any kind of disclaimer?
To illustrate my point, one of the kickstarter comments from someone who pledged reads:
Great project, West Games. I'm unfamiliar with the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series, however the description and overall concept of the game has urged my interested. The gameplay & cinematic cuts shown look great, I can see you have already put a lot of work into the game. I have backed your game, I'm looking forward to more information in the future and I can't wait to play it once it releases
I am assuming that he believes the STALKER footage is from Areal.
christ i didn't expect the areal kickstarter to be over 8k already. even if the kickstarter page does look a little clumsy i'm hopeful for this project

my god that video was horrible
i don't know what's worse, seeing 99% of another game and 1% of shit they actually developed
or the battlefront e3 2014 video where we saw 1% of what they developed and the rest of the video talking about how they're developing the game.
or the battlefront e3 2014 video where we saw 1% of what they developed and the rest of the video talking about how they're developing the game.
At least that one isn't borderline false advertising. Which, I dunno, kind of perplexes me. They have all these pretty cool looking concept arts, why not instead use them and the models they've already created and talk about the core concepts they're going to integrate into the gameplay instead of simply riding on their past fame shamelessly and create a false sense for the audience on the stuff they're getting. Also, I'm really curious to know who these "Ex-GSC"-developers really are and what part they had to do with the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. I'm not hugely into Survarium but I've watched most of their dev talks on Youtube, because they can usually give me a no-bullshit review of what features they're planning for their game and how they integrate into the core gameplay instead of listing grandiose promises of what *may* be sometime in the future *if* they get enough funding and generally inspiring mainly doubt on whether they can deliver even half of those promises.
I guess that's the curse of the Kickstarter pitches : you have to go big or go home without attaining the kickstarter goal even if you don't have the product you're planning on showboating in front of everyone.

The page is a bit clumsy, and they are really touting their involvement in stalker, but we did see some glimpses at the engine and the level editor. They are further along than just concept art.
I made my own version of Meet the Bandits, by getting all the extreme cheeki breeki sounds, putting them all together with a bunch of gifs. Enjoy

Dammit do I really have to pledge to this "I don't know what will come out of this" project? I'm temped to do it, but then again the game could turn into real turd in the end.
Another mini-update of Frozen Zone.

That was the best fucking trailer ever
Got me hyped like crazy
[editline]24th June 2014[/editline]
It's for consoles? Oh shit.
Wow that kickstarter is nearly at 10k already.
At 231 backers, no less. Let's have a little breakdown here.
Okay I've recovered, now let's see who paid what.
As of 23:37 this evening from 231 backers totalling over $10k,
1 for the $250
3 for the $150
21 for the $100
1 for the $95
18 for the $75
20 for the $60
24 for the $50
9 for the $35
123 for the $25
2 for the $10
and 4 for the $5
So most of it's for the standard digital release, pretty standard so far. Let's see how far it climbs as the days go by.
Oh, and probably get others to pitch in as well so folks know this is a thing.
Provided you can appear somewhat professional with your presentation, Kickstarter is still free money basically. I've got no doubts that it'll get funded and they'll make a decent attempt at it, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
SoC took what... the better part of six years to finish? And was a shell of the original idea when it was released no less. Yet they want to have this done in just over one year (granted, at least some work appears to be done already), and with a multi-platform release? Maybe they've been working on it since the cancellation of Stalker 2, but otherwise, I just don't see it.
Seems like if it's a scam someone's been preparing it for a while at least.

game companies just don't set up shop over night. gsc translated educational software to ukrainian for years until they made games. their first ever game was an oddball warcraft 2 mod that boosted the unit counts to insane heights: i am not kidding
