So Areal's KS got suspended. Praise be the mighty monolith!
I'm upset that they didn't give us a chance to see if it would've been a legit project. It could've been good, for what it's worth. The likelyhood of it being good out of the box was low, but at least it would be better than an always-online "spiritual successor" that will be rented to us for a limited time, maybe a year or two at a most before it's shut down and gone forever. Hopefully they can restart the Kickstarter after they get their shit together and their goals a little more realistic. [editline]herp[/editline] Or procure funding some other way, as their Kickstarter reputation is probably kinda tainted now.
Lets hope they don't.
Why ? Surely a 1% chance of a good game emerging from all of this nonsense is better than a flat-out 0% chance ? And even if the game project turned out to be a turd quality-wise, what does that bother anyone ? That people'll "waste money on it" ? People waste their money daily on more frivolous shit than that, at least the Kickstarter might produce an entertaining video game title, one that might be cherished or remembered for years to come. To compare, I thought that GSC's Project : Outbreak was an unstable and ugly turd of a game, but it was still intriguing, it had some entertainment value and I would suspect that Areal, as shoddy it seemed at the moment, would be at least the same and might aspire to be even better, especially if it would've had the open-world aspect going for it.
SweetFX? More visible with light sources? ENB presets? What the hell are you talking about? All I was talking about were mod-related things, not 3rd party plugins. Adding SweetFX to your game isn't considered modding in my book. Bloom can be configured with use of the weather files and user.ltx, Lighting ditto, Sharpness is due to wrong texture compression / wrong use of mipmaps. Adding mipmaps =/= having the right algorithm. I'm getting the vibe that you actually don't know what you're talking about. I've also read that recently, how you denied putting something game-breaking in your modpack, while it indeed was there and blamed it on someone else? IIRC the author of that minimod? You know once you implant something into your own creation, you're the one responsible, right? And while I'm at it now, I'm starting to ask myself a question. What did you actually do with LA, except of adding in other people their content with a few of your own 'tweaks', then calling it your own? Do you even have the slightest of modding knowledge or ... ? Sorry, but you're making a very bad impression on me. I'm just astounded by your reactions. You're getting feedback from people who know what they're talking about (not only me here on this forum, but GSC as well), yet you blow everything out of the way and tell them "yeah it's already present you just dont see it". You're acting like Vintar and I don't like him either. Also, there's no need to 'amplify your emotions'. What emotions? If you're clear, things should be quite easy for anyone. Putting emotion in your posts wont make the content any better. Cheers
You know that gives me a very familiar vibe and sounds a lot like someone I used to know who did that a lot that used to mod Stalker at release. WAIT! Maybe it's Kanyhalos in a different name!
They fucked themselves when they self-funded it because they saw it failing in front of their eyes.

If they were given a chance to see if it would have been legit. Then they would have gotten away with it and the money non refundable.
Their goal was to scam people. If they were given a chance to see if it would have been legit. Then they would have gotten away with it and the money non refundable.
Yeah, they had quite unrealistic design goals and a very short deadline for the project and had put together pretty much nothing. If they're indeed legit, I hope that the project emerges fully self-funded or invested to by a small publishing company and not scamming "the little people" out of their money.
I think "spiritual spin-off" would work better in Survarium's case.
True, but either way they're the "children of S.T.A.L.K.E.R." in any case, projects very similar to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. by teams that include a number of the former S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developers. While not S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-related per se, I'd count Nuclear Union into the series of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. successors as well, since it deals with a number of similar themes. Then of course, there's the Metro series but it's very known where they'll be and what they have done. The status of these projects is now : Nuclear Union : Dead and buried. Survarium : Will be interesting for a while when freeplay comes, will be dead and buried when the developers run out of money to keep working on it / lose interest. No mod community will prop it up because of it's always-online, MMO-type nature. Areal : floating in funding limbo (might've been scam all along) Metro : Nobody knows, while Metro is good, it's just not S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and likely never will be. That's why I'm so keen on defending Areal even if it looks like a scam : all the other S.T.A.L.K.E.R. sequels / successors are either dead or dying and Areal is pretty much the last gasp of a S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-like singleplayer experience to come out of a developer with some of the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developers present. It's a shitty thing that they have taken the fans' devotion and used it to grab their money and run if that indeed is the case, but if it is not a scam, I'm desperate for them to succeed in making the game.
To be honest they don't deserve a second chance. They have clearly demonstrated where their ethics and morals lie.
While I know that Sergei is a self-absorbed assbag who treated his employees like shit, I'd still shovel money into his face if he made S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2.
Yeah, they had quite unrealistic design goals and a very short deadline for the project and had put together pretty much nothing. It'll all have to come out of their pockets, and ultimately they won't bother with it.

Would you really want to give them a second chance considering the amount of theft, lying, deceiving and general shenanigans that's come about clearly for the intent of trying to take peoples money. Fuck them. I hope it dies and never returns.
i cant believe i almost gave cash to those cunts
The funniest thing is that it wasn't the unprofessionalism, the lying in the updates, or the posting of personal information of "trolls" in a public forum that got them shut down. It was "Putin's" donation to the project. [editline]22nd July 2014[/editline] And yeah, I really hope these assholes never get another chance. They've done enough damage to the idea of a "spiritual sequel" to STALKER already.
what an escapade it's been eh gents
i cant believe i almost gave cash to those cunts
Same thing. Shit was shady as fuck anyway.
Areal talk again... Guess what time is it? It's Makarov time!
Hammer you were 1 min earlier ... gg wp bro
You know what is fun for me to think about sometimes? A massive collaboration that features the modders and artists on these boards + some OGSE guys + GSC Forum vets like NatVac, Cromm and others, all coming together to build a proper successor. Once the leadership was worked out and a cohesive vision formed, there'd certainly be a ridiculous amount of brain power and talent on one team. [edit] and the gunslinger guys. They can come, too.

Modellers, texture artists, scripters and coders, sound artists, animators, fiction writers, concept artists, video creators. Pretty much find it all on here. :v:
I'd be willing to lend my vast supplies of duct tape for such a project :v: [editline]22nd July 2014[/editline] I might have some chewing gum in my trouser pockets, too.
And an entire cast of horrible voice actors(me included)
ALOOOOOOOOHAAAAAA
ALOOOOOOOOHAAAAAA
You have to admit though, giving a ton of people from the East flight money for a day of absolutely real but mediocre voice acting in a Western studio would be something. We could throw in a guest appearance by Steven Blum. :v:
we can dream
we can dream
Not only. It's possible, but time zones, language / thought differences might become a problem. Also taking into factor that not everyone will agree with the rest about features. I, for example, would be against a magazine feature where bullets should be separately loaded into the mag. Too realistic for my taste :v: [editline]22nd July 2014[/editline] BUT if we all pool our money into such a project and indeed with the sheer amount of brains behind it ... I'd be more than 99,99% sure that we would create the best spiritual successor to the STALKER franchise and maybe one of the best FPS, ever.
So Areal's KS got suspended. Praise be the mighty monolith!
:v: Well, this has been quite interesting. Wonder if we will hear about what happened...

Moneydollars wouldn't be a bad thing either but if Sergei really is seeking for a proper dev team he could notice our presence in the Magical Pool of Pepsi™.

Whether we want to include the bandit in our production or not. If he sees the chance of it being a proper LA, he'll want his share and he'll pull the strings on the operation with his puppets of employees. Also ... we'll need to improve our lovey dovey Xray to v2 on our own. Just like the SDK :v: While I may say, I'd love to see a fully working DX10 + 11 mode in STALKER with a proper WYSIWYG SDK in Real Time ....
