S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series Megathread: The Zone will stop the Russians

Ah Stalker, SoC.
One of the few games where I can go have a chat with a guy in full body armor, and suddenly have him get headshot by sniper in fuckknowswheresville, go flying head over heels in the most comical fashion ever, and land headfirst in the nearest campfire.
Also, starting up the game again, go out to kill some boars for some early cash, and somehow piss off the local military, resulting in by far the most bizarre firefight where I swear every time a grunt died, and new one would pop up in the bush somewhere else. It's like Whack-A-Mole, but with dudes in green camo coming out of bushes.
Oh, and the random stalker walking into a shock/lightning anomaly, turns to say hi, and abruptly dies.
I know folks hate glitches, but some of the stuff I've encountered has been golden.
Every time I play Autumn Aurora 2 the rookie camp gets mowed down by the military and Wolf dies.
Wasn't it supposed to come out "Soon" last month?
they've been a little more transparent. a dev said a english translation is supposed to be done in a week or so 6 days ago; a polish translation has already been done
Kind of annoys me I can still shoot down a helicopter with 2 mags worth of 5.45 in OLR. :v:
Is Call of Pripyat good? I was thinking of picking is up soon. I've played SOC and Lost Alpha both unmodded.
the story sucks
but the map is pretty cool and the gameplay is better than the last two. just try to stick to the main story as little as possible and do as much side shit as you can, you'll get a better use out of the map. i only have 18 hours on cop, and that's just one playthrough of the story, whereas i have about 30 hours for a single play of soc and i have more hours on cs than i should because i kept dying a bunch of times at yantar.

Though the lore and side quests are superb. I have always said this every time we spoke about it here in FP: The quests in the game are one of the most dynamic and surprising I've ever seen in a FPS. Really, you won't see the ending coming of many.
the mechanics of COP are pretty fun on their own. Artifact hunting was revamped. Weapons mods are cool and really give a personal feel to your weapon. Stashes are there no matter the story/looted bodies so you can spend the whole time checking out lairs and shit like that to find awesome stuff (Check out Pripyat, vine anomaly). Open levels with areas to check out are able to provide more skirmishes and WTF moments. And the creepiness factor was taken to a new level. I really recommend it. Just give it time to see how awesome it is, because the longer you play it for the first time, the better you realize how awesome the game is.
[del]Not sure if this has been posted yet, but survarium keys:

my favorite two sidequests are the bloodsucker lair (the one where the guy helps you) and the cannibal guy. holy shit did not see that one coming.
also i'm in the beta :D
If any stalkerbros are going to pax in australia, say hi if you see me.

i hope you have a license for that deadly firearm
I'm going without a weapon, it's my friend's peestol.
He's going as Quote from cave story.
so i just played my first match of survarium
it should be noted that the game isn't 100% pay to win, but you can buy gold with real money to get ahead so it's semi-p2w.
but, that being said, the level design is really nice and the controls/guns feel stalker-ish enough
if you're a cod fps kind of guy you'll hate it because there is no aim assist whatsoever.

not too bad for my first game imo

i ran into an area pumped full of radiation and didn't realize it. if you see orange/red floating dots, stay clear of them, or else this will happen

now, here is your main hub that shows up when you start the game. there are four factions to play as, two are open at level 0, the others come later. each faction has its own assignments for you to achieve during a match. the matchmaking is nice actually, it puts you in a game with people who have the same or just about the same level as you, so you won't play with some level 80 guy who has full body armor and dual-wielding AKs on day one. also, no body loot drops.

the matches are your basic team deathmatch setup, but the real goal is to steal batteries, power them up and return them to your power station. now have some screenies of "vostok power station."

it should be noted that the only servers for the community beta test are in russia, so you are guaranteed to have high ping (mine averaged around 140) no matter what (unless you live in russia) for the time being, also i'm running this on medium and getting around 20-25 fps tops, but then again i need a new computer and not a laptop. i recommend that, unless you have good ping, to steer clear of the mosin since it's bolt-action and takes fucking forever to cock the damn thing. stick to the ppsh or the tokarev until you get better weapons.

Playin' survarium
mosin mcnugget for life, so much fun even with 350 ping
Guys, i've tried installing the stalker soup mod as someone recommeneded me some time ago, then realised how messy it was to install and gave up.
Then recently i've decided to man up and try it again and apparently i fucked something up.
I downloaded all the game data zip things, extracted all them together, replaced on the stalker folder, got the patches and mini patches, installed then properly, and got the ss bin zip from the stalker_bin_beta folder in the repository, also replacing the vanilla folders with it's contents.
However, when i try to launch the bloody thing, it crashes before the game starts and spits out the following error, in the XRay engine bug screen:
XR_3DA.exe caused BREAKPOINT in module "\Steam\steamapps\common\STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl\bin\xrCore.dll" at 0023:0076CC85, xrDebug::backend()+165 byte(s)
I also found a log of the errors and it also says this:
FATAL ERROR
[error]Expression : I
[error]Function : CInifile::Load
[error]File : E:\stalker\sources\trunk\xrCore\Xr_ini.cpp
[error]Line : 166
[error]Description : Can't find include file:
[error]Arguments : w_shmel.ltx
Anyone got any clues? What did i install wrong? Should i look elsewhere for help?

Apprently the game is asking for a file and it isn't anywhere in the gamedata directory.

The Toz is also nice, it's really accurate at like 30 meters (?) and one-two shots everyone.

Any clue where i can get that? Does anyone know if it's a vanilla file or a mod file?
I could try to reinstall the whole bloody thing but i'll see if i can try to fix it before doing anything like that.

Cool, reminds me of the older builds where the bar area was covered in messages from passing stalkers. It looks a little too sharp though and not "sprayed" enough, might want to take a look at that.
Jesus fucking christ.
How come no one told me Survarium sucked so god damn much?
It is the laggiest, most un-optimized piece of shit hanging from a strand of hair. How in the world could they even think the game could turn out good?!
The multiplayer is just Call of Duty with severe fucking restrictions. Who was it that made the god damn design choice where you can run out of ammo mid fucking game, making you absolutely fucking USELESS, and HAVE to resort to running at enemies head on(because there are no maps you can go AROUND the enemy)to melee them.
I just wanted to have FUN, in a Stalker like environment, shooting people. Not this shit, holy christ.

Well by assumption the mod will come with it as it is a require component. Either you are missing some files or had a corrupt download, or one of the patch fixes or similar requires that component and you've possibly missed a step. I'd recommend going from the start once more.

you never ran out of bullets during a firefight in stalker? you must not be playing right.
you just have to go to the store after a match and buy them again (you can buy 1000 rounds, doesn't actually cost anything, neither real money gold or in-game silver). not to mention it was reported a few months back that survarium would basically be a cod/stalker hybrid.
that's "dolya" not "aonr"
I rather hope it says dolg, and not either of those.

One of my problems with CoP is actually areas are too open and sparse at times, the rare times you do get into an actual firefight out in the open (especially happens in certain mods) there's never enough cover to make tactical decisions and as such it kind of looses a lot of the tactical elements of the previous games.
Pripyat does make up for that though, it's one hell of a place to have firefights in.
If there was a mod for CoP that added more clutter, bigger trees to areas (and maybe actual forests) and some more buildings maybe, firefights would be perfect.
If there was a mod for CoP that added more clutter, bigger trees to areas (and maybe actual forests) and some more buildings maybe, firefights would be perfect.
The current CoP levels don't support the addition of a lot of trees in my opinion, I'd rather there be completely new maps designed on particular themes (like forest with villages, industrial area, decayed city center) than trying to revamp the existing level geometry too much.
I like what the new Redux is doing with expanded interiors though, imo not every single square meter of the level's surface needs to have objects or buildings in it, but it'd be nice to have more tactical and exploratory opportunities in the areas that are built up.

didn't use the cyrillic here, obviously it's duty
moddb has the correct cyrillic
