S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series Megathread: The Zone will stop the Russians

Basic rundown of complete: makes the game way easier than it should be (and destroys the sense of progression the game has), and everything else it does either graphically or bugfix-wise has been done better (its based on an older version of the ZRP which is the general bugfix mod, you are better off getting ZRP + GFX mods instead if you want to make the game look better)

Ruins any challenge whatsoever, butchers the visuals with absolutely no consistency in style and horrible colour usage, breaks more than it fixes. There's a lot more but for me those are the biggest issues.
The creator is an absolute prick to boot.
SHOC was already a far cry from the original vision but complete mod just hammers the nails into the coffin. Stalker is not a game that requires modding to be playable besides bug fixes and even then, the bugs aren't even common anymore.

Complete's an outdated and somewhat buggy compilation of useful mods. You're better off installing the community fixpack ZRP (Zone Reclamation Project), and as Spekter says, Kingo64's shaders - they should improve your FPS considerably.
I just bought Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl because it was 50% off on sale.
Any recommendations on any mods I should install for my first playthrough?
Literally the post above yours, brother.
oh lol, ok thanks
How do I fix the PDA resetting itself (highlighting) when I close it?

Don't touch complete. All it does is make the game stupidly easier, and introduces a metric fuckton more bugs than it fixes.

Nah, I just got the ZRP and Kingo64's shaders.

Good lad!
someone tell me how to uninstall complete?
Delete the gamedata folder.
i don't have steam version
i don't have steam version
...
I refer to my previous statement. Delete the gamedata folder. Inside your STALKER Install directory.
Nah, I just got the ZRP and Kingo64's shaders.
Yeah, that's probably a good choice. I don't think there really are any just vanilla+ mods for SoC that don't change a ton of other stuff. I like OGSE, AMK, and LURK, but they all make a lot of changes. Wasn't Loner working on a sort of enhanced vanilla mod?
ah i see
i thought the gamedata folder came with the game but i see it's just an override folder

Yes sir. :v:
hi
How is Autumn Aurora? I've been thinking of trying it out.
Finally have SoC. Now, I have all of them. Hooray!
You know, I've always wondered how players new to the series actually hear about Complete.
Most places were good discussion happens (Facepunch, Reddit, SA, /vg/ etc) don't really talk about it, never mind recommend it for new players. It can't even be on the steam forums or steam hub, as this stuff happened before even those became popular. Even when Complete was first released for SoC, people criticized it for greatly reducing difficulty and basically giving the player minor cheats and massive advantages over the AI. How is it that it is still something new players find and immediately decide to play with despite all of the major/informed areas of discussion recommending against it?
[editline]THANKS LONER[/editline]
AA2 is crashing when loading the area post [sp]rejecting to become a zone podbaby.[/sp]
I didn't want to complete the game anyway :(

ModDB/word of mouth. That's how I first heard about it, I was watching a stream and the guy playing it mentioned he was using it. It's popular on ModDB and it comes up high on the mod list, plus the way it advertises itself doesn't hurt. Not many people looking for mods will do research into them past the feature list.

only real stalkers on reddit don't post about complete, or post against it
most of them circlejerk to it
but on top of that, people look for mods and that's what pops up for them before pretty much anything else since it has modified gunplay and graphics, which is what most people look for when playing a 7 year old game with outdated graphics.
also you should play it vanilla on your first time.
I see plenty of ppl post about complete on reddit
I think people hate on it too much. It's their game, they can play whatever mod they want, especially when the STALKER series has a reputation as a bit of a buggy mess preceding it in most cases. I can't really blame people for trying to go for something that sounds comprehensive without obviously changing the game too much like a million new weapons, areas, etc. That's usually what you look for in a mod for a new game at first.
I was working on Vanilla+
Sadly, faith decided for me this was the best time to unannounced crash my HDD stripe set (no mirror, 0 backup) and take my OS and files down with it. The HDD, in its defence, is 5 years old. I'm now going to run recovery studio amd see what can be saved. Atm getting some rubles together to get a new PC. My dad is also planning on a huge update.
These are dark times for this wandering loner.
I just found it by Googling "Essential STALKER mods"
1 - Stalker Complete 2009
The vaunted number one spot on the list of the best Stalker mods undoubtedly belongs to Stalker Complete 2009. Behold! Stalker Complete 2009 is the best Stalker mod out today!
While Stalker Complete does not add psychic mutants, miniguns, ballistic revamps or radioactive skies, what it does add has to be seen to be believed.
Basically, Stalker was made by an Eastern European company in 2007, and it looks like it was made in Eastern Europe in 2007. Stalker Complete 2009 completely revamps the visual, audio, and technical structure of the game, making it look, feel and sound like it was made today by a company like Infinity Ward or Bethesda. The result is truly astonishing. Stalker Complete 2009 has a laundry list of features including:
Reworking almost every texture in the game to be high res
Adding depth of field
Adding blur effects
A unique and very realistic weather system (you can hear a thunderstorm gradually approach you)
Enhanced AI behaviors (flanking, grenade tossing, cover fire)
Ability to shoot out lights and drag bodies
Repair and sleep mods among other minor fixes (includes ZRP's bug fixes)
One note of consequence though, Stalker Complete 2009 needs a very strong system to run at the highest settings, and it really only shines on the higher settings in the first place. Still, making Stalker look new and amazing is what makes Stalker Complete 2009 the best Stalker mod available today.
oh god mah balls
