S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series Megathread: The Zone will stop the Russians
Btw,OGSE question (yes I decided to go back to OGSE. Dunno what it is, but I just like OGSE better than stalkersoup for some reason).
... What use does Pellet shot have? I'm a shotgun sort myself (Forget assault rifles. TOZ-34/Sagia all the way!) but I find that pellet... really doesn't do much of anything.
It has more pellets, yes, but that hardly seems to make much of a difference when It takes 2 pellet shot rounds at point-blank to kill a cat (the weakest non-rodent enemy in the game)
Maybe I'm just using it wrong, but it just seems that buckshot is far superior in every way.
That also goes for slugs vs Darts btw.
With pellets, I noticed that the closer you are to your enemy, the more damage you'll do. And that's with pellets straying off course aside. You can manage to blast them from mid-range with a shotgun and get most of the pellets to land, but shotguns always seemed the most effective when they're right in the face of the mutant you're trying to kill.
That's what made the bullet sponge mutants in SGM tolerable for the most part. I also think it has to do with how much damage is done in a period of time. Trying to whittle down their health gives them time to breath and shit, but a point blank shotgun blast is gonna deliver all of its damage at the same time.
I can't say any of this is fact, but this is how I've felt it works from playing.
God damn I want call of chernobyl
someone on the stalker general on 4chan got to playtest it and its hella good
i want
A new upcoming mod? What's it do? (Searching for it now)
[editline]12th November 2014[/editline]
Oooh, freeplay on new maps.
Would this be compatible with REDUX 2.0 or fuck it up?

no
most mods generally wont work with others unless you decide to spend forever merging them
Looks like I'll be using 2 saves then until wizards help out.
CoC would never ever in a million years be even slightly compatible with Redux 2.0 haha

I mean, you could probably port over the ballistics but that's about it

this is p.trippy
You know, I just had a horrifying, but at the same time rather creative thought:
What if instead of Chernobyl, S.T.A.L.K.E.R took place in an alternate Three Mile Island?
OR
Three Mile Island blows up too, causing another zone to appear?

The reactor meltdown wasn't the reason behind the creation of The Zone. It's just a facade masking what's the real cause of it.

I know that.
I'm just saying that what if Three Mile Island melted down, and the group did their experiments there?
Also, in Southern Comfort a nuke causes a zone to appear in Afghanistan. Apparently.
Does anyone have any reccomendations for SoC mods? The link to the list of reccomended mods in the OP is dead.
OGSE, STALKERSOUP, or DOOM's MOD MERGE
STALKERSOUP has TONS of new stuff. New artifacts, new anomalies, new maps, Shitton of new weapons, etc. However, it does have tons of one other thing you don't really want: bugs. Expect plenty of crashes and broken quests, especially in the "new" areas.
Also, maybe its just me, but enemies don't respawn until a certain part of the main quest. I think after the radar is off.
OGSE: Another overhaul. It doesn't have as many guns, new artifacts, doesn't have new maps... but it still contains plenty of new content. Plus, unlike stalkersoup it's very stable. Also unlike stalkersoup things respawn regularly. In fact you can adjust just how often it does (among other things)
DOOM's MOD MERGE: not really on the same wavelength as the above two. Basically, it's a freeplay mod. Has some extra weapons, removes the main quest, allows you to play as any of the factions right from the get-go (even monolith, mercs, and military!). It has some LURK weapons and some other things, but in all other regards it's mostly vanilla.
Quite stable, but I have had problems with Yantar because it spawns so many damn zombies there.
I know that.

If I remember correctly in southern comfort there was one of the x labs in Afghanistan too which something happened and created the new zone or something like that

I really didn't like Southern Comfort or that other book.
Honestly, it felt like I was reading a STALKER fanfiction or something.

Basically you were. AFAIK all the other books that GSC have put out (both their Russian novels and that shitty Zone diaries thing) have been pretty poor, and when you take a long hard look at the storylines of the games they're nothing to write home about, either.
In the games they get away with it on account of how immersive gameplay is in general, but that's much harder to pin down in the books.
So I wanted to see if the new version of OGSE was released, so I Googled it...

It would've been 10X better with new characters rather than basically every well known stalker in all three games piling to go to the same shithole. I fucking loved The Tribe though, that was the best part of the book.
I knew slav sitting was a thing but.. Damn that's some strong calves.

So I dropped some items in the Skadovsk bunk room, can't pick them up because when I press F it goes to the sleep menu, what do.

Drag a snork or bandit's body into the room and use their collisions to move the items out of the sleep zone.
ffffffuck.

The Zone is truly a harsh place.

Time for my annual playthrough of CoP. Which mods are the most recommended and stable right now?
Time for my annual playthrough of CoP. Which mods are the most recommended and stable right now?
I'd personally recommend M.S.O.+AtmosFear 3(plus Absolute Nature 2 Summer Edition) for more dynamic A-Life(including more hostility from increased merc spawns and occasionally hostile bandits) but otherwise the game would stay a fairly Vanilla experience.
If you want something more, I'd also recommend SGM because it adds a whole lot of new quests and gameplay dynamics and is also relatively stable.
So I dropped some items in the Skadovsk bunk room, can't pick them up because when I press F it goes to the sleep menu, what do.
Can you hold F before going into the room? I hold F to collect stashes in trees, or somewhere just out of reach and when it's a pain in the ass to grab them.
