S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series Megathread: The Zone will stop the Russians

Really, now that I think about it, another one of LA's biggest issue is main quest being oversaturated. I wouldn't be surprised if it has three times as much tasks covering a slightly larger amount of locations and distance between them as it was in SoC.
The LA maps are amazing and I would totally give it a chance if they fix the A-life (and if the main quest is either unfucked or at least avoidable)
There's really potential for good freeplay in there somewhere, underneath the putrid cesspool that is the storyline and world emptiness
Also the MQ might be more bearable as is if there was some way to use that PDA chat system to send info - so when you get something quest related you can "upload" it instead of having to trek all the way back (which would prevent the damage to the immersion that fast travel produces)
It says redone Cutscenes
SO MAYBE THERE'S A CH
Ah fuck it
Let's just wait for CoC, Redux, OGSE...and something else?

Gunslinger and Frozen Zone.
I really wish a mod would let you combine certain types of helmets and gas masks. Like I wish I could wear the steel helmet and gas mask at the same time.

step 1: go to zone and wear steel helmet with gas mask irl
step 2: ???
step 3: profits
Gunslinger
I will probably be dead before this thing comes out.

Playing MISERY recon, its around noon on my 3rd day in the zone, and I have a LR-300ML, a protecta customized, a camo SIG p220, and about 75k, just 10k away from getting a SP-99m. I havent even hit the big merc camp or completed the bloodsucker quest. Hell I have only artifact hunted twice, once in the barge area and once in the claw.
misery pls

My issue with it is the total lack of freedom and a lot of the quests simply being fetch quests over a long distance containing no gameplay. Or sections like Dead City and Army Warehouses where there's no room to use your own solutions but you must adhere rigidly to the developer-intended solution(or,in the case of Dead City, let the game play itself while denying the player the chance to participate).

People complain about Misery's difficulty, but if you really know how to play STALKER games it only delays you a little bit longer than vanilla/other mod before you're right back to being properly equipped again.

Yeah the only thing in misery that gets me now is people sniping me across the map and all these pseudogiants that spawn everywhere and maybe a few anomalies when artifact hunting.
Sometimes misery hands you some pretty cool weapons if you are lucky. That protecta custom was just on a body at the krug antenna complex, and in various stashes there I found pretty much everything I needed to repair it from around 35%. It came with some recoil and durability upgrades too, and by default has a full auto setting. It also looks badass.
Also my second day in the zone I killed a bandit who had an M14, although it was pretty trashed. Interestingly enough weapons disappear usually if you dont headshot them.
I usually dont have a problem with pseudogiants because I carry a grenade launcher most of the time. Two direct hits and maybe a grenade does it.

[I]There are a few characters returning in the mod that you may recognise from past raids into the Zone!
Notably, one Professor Kruglov recently arrived in the Jupiter Mobile Lab, and has already established himself as a popular figure thanks to the generous prices he pays for mutant specimens.

That right there is why Misery is true to its namesake. Finding really good weapons in shitty condition. I still have nightmares over when i found a TRG-42 that was only repairable by a tech, and cost me more than a new one would cost. Spending 78,000 rubles on a single rifle is definitely a lot of money.

Idk why but I really liked Kruglov when I played ShoC for the first time. I refused to let him die.

he died on my first run
i immediately reloaded my game and saved his ass.
alun, are you guys using modified CoP source in CoC?
Yes, but it will be an optional download. The updated binaries contain fixes, enhancements and cut stuff. Many console commands reactivated like FOV and jump_to_level. Graphic enhancements like actor and grass shadows, increased grass draw distances and DX10 fixes are implemented. There might also be AI fixes, such as no more stalkers throwing grenades at walls, but that still needs testing. We took most of the stuff from other Russian repositories but we have some original stuff in ours. Ultimate Weapons Renewal developers are going to share source changes with us. These downloadable binaries won't require a CoC installation either, so it will benefit any mod.
Nice! Kruglov. I love that guy. We have him in CoC and you can take him around Yantar to collect mutant data.
Someone might have posted this already but the STALKER series is on sale on GOG http://www.gog.com/promo/big_winter_stalker_bundle_041214
Alright lads lets get more people to buy the games and come here so I won't be so lonely :(
Ah Clear Sky and how broken faction wars is. Duty was being annoying, so I started killing them off. After killing 72, they were still neutral with me. I left to go get more ammo, and when I looked at the statistics, they'd gone from 189 to 274. They also took over the garbage over a single day. Faction wars is a mysterious system.
Oh my god

i just played that mission and got the bug where he won't move. i reloaded my save because he died, and he ran all the way back from the second to last stop point to where he spawns. i reloaded my save two or three times after that and on the last time he ran from there all the way through the tunnel.

Ok, cool, looking forward to it! It'd really help the community as a whole if you contributed to the OpenXRay project when you release!
Does anyone know when Survarium will be out?
Does anyone know when Survarium will be out?
It will be a while before that game has a playable "freeplay" mode. On the forum there are posts every single day begging for freeplay, open world...and the devs are projecting sometime in 2015 for the beta of that.
it really astonishes me that the freeplay isn't the entire game, when that's all anyone actually wants to play
why, Vostok, why?
it really astonishes me that the freeplay isn't the entire game, when that's all anyone actually wants to play

And it's a shame because the game really is beautiful, and the atmosphere is spot on! Whenever I play some PVP to check out new features etc. all I can think to myself is "man, I wish this was a single player open world experience"
What's somewhat annoying to me is that in my current mod loadout for SoC, weapons mince people, which means that in order not to lose anyone story important, I have to go balls deep and charge straight into enemy lines so they shoot me and not the fragile npcs.

Maybe they just want a really solid base first
Maybe they just want a really solid base first
You aren't going to build a solid base with a boring mode that's not remotely unique VS something that only they could offer correctly.
I'm talking about mechanics and balancing, not gamemode variety
