Just some thoughts on LA
I have been playing through at a truly sedate pace, not rushing the missions, instead I have been wandering around the new maps. I understand about what's been said about the lack of A-Life, the empty maps and endless trekking about, but... isn't this how the zone would be?
Hours alone on empty roads, the odd "huddle" of a group of Loners in a building, sure it doesn't make for an adrenaline rush of the game mostly, but again that is how it would probably pan out in the zone.
This emptiness brings about the odd moment though, while having a mooch about on the countryside level, I got jumped by a mutated boar, I had my guard down as nothing has happened in a hour, and then killed by a boar coming through the undergrowth. That made me think about how realistic that event would be.
Well, reinstalled Misery. Hoping that maybe. JUST MAYBE. They'd of fixed the unbalanced ballistics. Bullet sponge Iron headed Rookie coated zombies, DEADSHOT pinpoint marksman rookies with pistols and shotguns (That is the EXACT same with Hardcore AI aim on or off and with "Easy mode" enabled. Almost psychic AI. And the NFL style grenade throws that can cross MASSIVE distances with DEAD accurate landings.
So yeah. That was a waste of time. :suicide:

I remember holdenmcclure once posting images of his grass ... it was sublime. But I can't find it anymore. It was realistic and like grass is supposed to look like, shoes-height.

Quite a few oddities in arsenal overhaul, like the helmet Nimble sells you weighing absolutely nothing. The SVT-40 and Mosin feel wonderful to use (except for the rather leisurely reload of both) and sound like an artillery cannon. The 7.62mm AKs are rather good, but the 5.45 ones are rather pants in terms of quality.

I've been sticking to an AKMS despite having enough dosh to buy the G3 Nimble sells.
It feels so satisfying to use. Ammo is plentifull and there aint alot of things that will stand upright after taking a 7.62 to the face. :v:

I looked in source code about the nades. I think I can fix it. There is a condition check which is supposed to prevent npcs from throwing grenades at walls, but if the npc already has the nade in his hand the check is not used and there is a function to randomize the throw position but it disabled.
Haven't played STALKER in forever, should I reinstall now or wait for REDUX 2.0?

Do yourself a favour and get Arsenal Overhaul. It got taken down from moddb but there should be a download link about 2 pages back.

I wouldn't wait for any one particular mod, they all take awhile to develop and release.

I'd pick the AKMS over the SVT-40 any day. full auto 7.62, albeit uncontrollable, is a serious amount of dakka when there is a need for such thing.
The doublebarrel shotgun (the side-by-side one) is also very satisfying to use.

The thing that sucks about it is that there's almost no unpredictability in the game world, the maps aren't empty because of the spawn rates are reduced, the maps are empty of human A-Life because smart_terrains, map nodes and respawners are fucked up so the human A-Life rarely travels. The [I]amount[/I] of random A-Life in the maps might be okay, but they don't have much in the way of migration patterns and if they respawn, they respawn on-site in some remote corner of the map which shatters the illusion of stalkers traveling and doing stuff.

It's become better with patches, though, but there are still some problems.
Is Lost Alpha worth playing yet? I only tried it when it was leaked and got bored pretty quickly of all the bugs and stuff.
