Is Lost Alpha worth playing yet? I only tried it when it was leaked and got bored pretty quickly of all the bugs and stuff.
Wait for the developers cut...
I personally got tired of running around completely barren areas with no a-life for hours.
This has been known for a while now though.
I know, I posted it - I meant that it's actually confirmed now.
Even if it's not all the same devs, this has made me realize just how happy I'd be if STALKER 2 actually is coming
I don't think it's going to be STALKER, but I'd probably be happy to be proved wrong.
I don't think it's going to be STALKER, but I'd probably be happy to be proved wrong.
If it's not a Stalker, I'm still have tons of hype for more Cossacks and Heroes of Annihilated Empires.
please be stalker 2
The thing that sucks about it is that there's almost no unpredictability in the game world, the maps aren't empty because of the spawn rates are reduced, the maps are empty of human A-Life because smart_terrains, map nodes and respawners are fucked up so the human A-Life rarely travels. The amount of random A-Life in the maps might be okay, but they don't have much in the way of migration patterns and if they respawn, they respawn on-site in some remote corner of the map which shatters the illusion of stalkers traveling and doing stuff.
[editline]herp[/editline]
It's become better with patches, though, but there are still some problems.
I take your point, I was probably over simplistic with my post, I have the latest patch and also using S3r1ous S.L.A.M. mod pack. By wandering around the maps I am probably running into the random re-spawns, so that makes sense.

West Games, they never stop giving:

I dropped lost alpha pretty much instantly, I stopped at that shit excuse of a cutscene.
Its a shame because I was really hoping it'd be better than it was
Maybe directors edition will salvage it

I'm guessing they're going to need a lot of money if they want to make stalker the way they want, and I think that's what they're aiming for.
i don't know if gsc had the means to work on more than one game or not, but yeltyshev said stalker 2 was in the 'middle of development', that the new engine was nearly done, and 'Everything is stored! We have all the assets, materials and engine.' sounds to me like the 'new game' in the works is probably stalker 2, or at the very least, a stalker title.
Thing is Sergiy has the money, he's just not certain he'd make back the costs. Maybe he should Kickstart STALKER 2. If the tiers were right I would have difficulty keeping my bank account in the black...
Taking on the merc base at the waste treatment plant with just a Mosin and TT-33 turns into a game of quickload reflex testing rather quickly.

That is what I'm hoping for as well. It seems to me that they really fudged things up by releasing LA when it was apparent that there was a leak of an earlier version. They should have kept things under wraps and continued to fine tune the game until it was ready to release. Instead they opted to release a relatively unpolished game that already had multiple patches which have not done much to soothe the disappointment that engulfed the STALKER community. The developers cut has a chance to reverse a good deal of the damage done and I hope they listen to the community about those egregious cutscenes. They really are trying to do good and it's disappointing that one of their former testers did such an awful thing as to leak a project that has been incredibly secretive for YEARS.
Also on a different subject I congratulate you Beacon and the rest of your development team on the steady progress you guys have made so far! The new media that you guys have posted has really renewed my interest in CoP and I can't wait to see your unveiling of the relaunch. Redux has been one of my favorite mods for CoP and seeing the hard work you guys are putting in to it is awe-inspiring to say the least! :)
Now off to my stalker veteran lurking cave~

Well supposedly they are removing that stupid cutscene in the swamp in the director's cut :v:

Thank the gods. :v I hope that they add an option to just skip the rest of the cutscenes or something.
Man it would be cool if some STALKER mod made radiation a bit more realistic. Imagine having different detectors that you can get that are sensitive to different types of radiation, and depending on the type you need different types of protection. Say you have an area contaminated with airborne particles that are mainly alpha emitters, and so most cheap geiger counters couldnt detect them but if you breathe them in you can get seriously fucked, but you just need a gas mask to be protected. Then stuff like beta emitters which are pretty common, easy enough to detect and shield from, and then gamma which is easy to detect too but that requires a lot of shielding.
It would be kind of cool if you didnt automatically have a Geiger counter and you had to buy one, and without one you ran the risk of just walking into a radioactive area without noticing.
well the problem with gamma is that i don't think it's actually possible to completely shield from it, merely reduce it to acceptable levels.
unless you want to walk around in a lead suit.
as you've mentioned with alpha particles, if you breathe them in you're fucked but quite honestly, a sheet of paper will stop them so you literally just need to wear a scarf, which makes alpha protection somewhat redundant
the main issue thus would be beta and gamma radiation, of which beta is the easier to shield from.
I think for the sake of sticking to STALKER canon gamma could be shielded by some materials like plexiglass or something. Also for airborne particles a full gas mask would be the best because while a scarf would work, it would still let fine dust through. The main issue with alpha emitters is that you need an expensive geiger counter to detect them, and alpha-sensitive detectors are also generally fragile.
Strelok what are you doing
no Strelok, now is not time to be making Kalashnikov

on topic, are there any worthwhile Stalker mods right now
I played Misery but I didn't feel like restarting progress after that last major update
What could a good setting be for a new STALKER game? My candidates would be Fukushima, a closed town in Siberia, perhaps some weird area of North Korea (everyones starving, closed border, shit is not maintained).

I've actually always wanted to make a detector overhaul mod for CoP.
Rather than have 3/4 detectors that detect more and more stuff, I'd rather have a range of them for detecting certain types of anomalies and artifacts.
For example, the cheapest detector would be a basic geiger counter, for detecting radiation hotspots. (lets ignore Alpha/Beta/Gamma for now)
The second cheapest would be a very basic anomaly/artifact detector. It'd detect very common, low-level artifacts and weak, common anomalies, like the weak gravitational anomalies. It would not inherit the geiger counter aspect, you'd need both on.
And so on and so forth, with each detector specializing in certain types of anomalies and artifacts.
Only issue is that with the way anomalies work in CoP it'd be kind of pointless. :v:
I could do it for SoC (specifically AMK or FreeplayStart/DMM) or LA, but then I'd also wanna overhaul the anomaly particles. Most of them are way too flashy for this to be of any use. I'd rather have the early build style anomaly effects, either the build 1935 'distortion bubble' or the 18xx era 'steam leak' looking thing for gravitational anomalies. Both were very suble and hard to see, which made a detector worthwhile.
I'd ALSO love to have artifact containers ala OLR, just so it isn't so damn easy to make 10,000s of rubles just by selling fucktons of artifacts.
TL;DR I wanna make a mod for STALKER that focuses more on the exploration and anomalous danger portion of the game rather than the rooty tooty point n shooty bit

I bet his smartphone is completely empty except his wallpaper is changed to KILL STRELOK
I don't think OGSE 0693 is gonna release before 2015...

So that's why STALKER 2 was canceled. Strelok left to make guns.

did you guys get this working? i have fps problems with stalker when i think i shouldn't, or at least not when there isn't any action going on.

it's one of the c++ redists that you need. i think 2008 or 2010. try that.

I have them, and the x64 versions.
