By the way, what are whirlydogs? I've seen this mentoned in this thread fairly often but I never learned what they are. Are they just blind dogs in whirlygigs?

They are blind dogs that have fused with a whirlygig.
so i'm playing through clear sky
get to agroprom
get to the tunnel where those snorks came out, looted the duty soldiers even though i tried to help them live but they are hella retarded.
get through the intial tunnel with more snorks and climb up the ladder to the room full of medkits and ammo.
and now i'm at that chamber area where the faggoty mutant force push guy is fucking with my brain.
i have a shotgun and a pistol. that's it.
this will be one hell of a challenge.

haven't played Clear Sky, but in SoC, I just bum-rushed the controller, and kicked his ass. are they more difficult at close-range in Clear Sky?
Yeah, I meant the Controller.
It was easy as shit to kill in SoC because you had places you could really hide, but in this area in Clear Sky there's not much cover that I can get, and once it decides to head my way I'm pretty much fucked unless I keep running around.

edit: well shit that was easy, I just did what that guy did and shot the fucker up in close-range so he couldn't use his psychic attack and was too far to scratch at me with his big meaty claws. Now I just have to get out of the underground and not get killed by this abysmal fire mutant.
Just had the most tense adventure through the wild territory.
Started Freelurk as an ecologist, and wanted to challenge myself, so I sold my weapons and bought an MP-444 because MP-444s are sexy.
Anyway, decided that I needed to get to the bar, and the quickest way would be through Wild Territory.
Go there, pop headshots for two zombies, and get through the tunnel. Then I remembered.
I remembered that there was the construction site full of mercs, and that there was no damn way I'd be able to take them on.
So I decide to try go around, but too bad, they've already spotted me. Had to haul ass into the trainyard, but hey, pack of dogs! Managed to find a bit of high ground and take them out one by one. From then, I ran along the railway tracks to the platform, someone fires in my direction from where I'm running. 'oh fuck' I think, then I notice that it's a loner, I look behind me and see a dead merc. Thanks bro.
Anyway, as I'm trying to climb up onto the platform, I hear the distinct heavy breathing. Fuck, bloodsucker. I had no way of taking it out reliably. I helplessly watch as it slaughters the loner that saved my life. Bloodsucker proceeds to try run after a couple of mercs and I take that as my chance to get the hell out. I get up on the platform and run around through the two buildings full of plants. See a guy in a trenchcoat. FUCK BANDITS.
He starts firing at me and runs behind a building, I proceed to throw an F1 in his direction, wait for it to blow up, and run towards where he was. He wasn't there, but there was a dead loner. I go in the building and there's the bandit, staring at the roof like a retard. I kill him and take his AK-74 as I know there will be more assholes. I exit the building and immediately get shot at by a merc that was hanging out with the bandits. Fuck, I run towards the tower, climb up it, and take cover. I get shot at from behind now. Fucks sake, another bandit. I turn around and take potshots with the MP-444 until he dies, Then I get assaulted by 3 bandits but luckily they all bunched up and it took one grenade to kill them all. I took that as a chance to get the fuck out of there, and as I was walking past the garage/hanger, I saw a distinct glow.
