A nice vid from your friends at Giant Bomb.
Sucks that he's using complete but it's cool to watch someone completely new to stalker
fuck, why has it got to be so brown
[t]http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/19/18111/MISERY_ver2_zaton.jpg[/t]
the gameplay mechanics look really promising
As much as people make jokes about the brown Zone, it's clicking for me since it reminds me most of the black, charred image of forests I originally thought of when I heard of STALKER universe's Zone. It's not quite there, but it's close.

Because brown is realistic and gritty!!1!
But there is still rain in Zone, so it can't be brown everywhere. Rusty, dirty, maybe washed out.
But not 200% brown.
My ideal Zone is one that looks normal (as in not Misery'd up) but it rains almost all the time with only a few bits of clear skies. I think it would add to the moody atmosphere (and I love rain irl and ingame and the wet shaders)
Green Zone + gray skies would be perfect for me. Add the occasional rain and voila, atmosphere achieved.
what about a snowy zone
what about a snowy zone
Probably harsh blizzards from time to time. The Zone is meant to be inhospitable after all.
Snow cyclones around certain anomalies, heat anomalies melting the snow around them, bloodsuckers leaving footprints, snowstorms that cover tracks, cause hypothermia and limit visibility and of course swarms of whirlydogs starting up snowstorms on their own
How about snow cycles during, you know, the winter?
I mean sometimes people think that North Ukraine/The Zone is a dried up wasteland when in reality it's a lush overgrown swampland which gets covered in snow more or less every Winter. Sometimes they have problems traversing it because plowers only go through certain roads.
So yeah, I wonder why the hell nobody wants The Zone to look like The Zone.
Because people think Stalker is an eastern version of Fallout.
Because people think Stalker is an eastern version of Fallout.
technically Ukraine is east of america
Because people think Stalker is an eastern version of Fallout.
My friend does this. Could someone explain why this is not the case?
Other than it's not the result of a nuclear war and C-Consciousness being an active hivemind controlling the Zone (not in CoP)

Well, The Zone displays the darkness and degradation of human development running wild, via both the power plant incident and the experiments carried out afterwards. However, instead of turning the place into a wasteland, The Zone and it's flora and fauna continued running untapped due to human uninterest in such a place. STALKER as a game talks about uncovering the reasons behind The Zone's formation while showing how mankind does it's best to recover and exploit the land. In a sense The Zone's highest achievement is preservation and development of species and locations within, untouched by man for many years. Technically there's nothing worth going for in STALKER if The Zone is a dead, dry, wasteland, rather than an overgrown, lush, yet alien land abandoned by man decades ago.
Meanwhile Fallout displays the aftermath of total nuclear destruction and the need for society to ascend back to it's former glory, usually via a multitude of conflicting ideologies and manners which have to be solved by an almost ideal figure, the player, to continue the development. It requires scars of absolute destruction, but it can also hamper the game's presentation if it is overdone, as one might wonder why or how can humanity still prevail in a land where you cannot sustain life.
And that's what I think sets the two apart; while they fundamentally seem the same, they cannot function with the appearance of each other because the two settings require radically different presentations to build upon their content.

holy fuck can we stop this fucking circlejerk of QQ about misery being fucking brown?
Nobody is forcing you to use the textures, literally just install another texture pack over the top or delete them.
Mountains out of molehills, people...
hey guys, suggestion time!

how much more would you expect to pay for a carbon-fiber air tank that's 1/3 larger than a heavy steel tank but 60% lighter?
[editline]24th July 2013[/editline]
what a bizarre question
