For an introduction to stalker, it's pretty bad. As a game it's okay, if not insanely infuriating at times - way more so then the others. It has some really good parts though, like red forest.
BUUUUUUT at the same time it has a nice sense of comedy and the music is good. it was well worth the twenty dollars i paid for it. twenty twenty dollars... :v:
STALKER Call of Pripyat for $5? Yeah, definitely bought that.
all the people recommending complete to people buying stalker, on facebook, just makes me so sad [editline]26th July 2013[/editline] Redux Dev Log! http://alexkane.co.uk/redux-dev-log-26072013/
The faction mechanic is awesome
It has a lot of unfulfilled potential though, like there's never a proper sense of danger of your base being attacked, it's basically just your guys fighting the enemy to a standstill, you go in to finish their base and lo and behold the whole enemy base just respawns out of thin air. It makes you feel like you accomplished nothing and because the enemy can't fight their way out of the base anymore you'll be spammed with tons of notifications that the enemy has reappeared and then killed over and over and over. It would've been vastly better if they made it so that the defeated faction would start from fringes of the maps and started working their way back to their base and recapture it and included things like night raids on enemy supply bases, lone snipers from the enemy faction skirmishing troops on the outskirts of your base or there would've been more faction war related missions. As it stands now it's just a simple tug-of-war across a few maps like no effort was put into the faction wars besides the point capturing mechanic. Then as a final insult the Faction Wars is all the action you're going to get besides the relatively short main quest because the mutants are completely sidelined to make room for the faction wars and there is no A-Life to refill the maps cleared during story missions. The story missions are pretty okay and they're entertaining action gauntlets but the lack of A-Life and underground sequences drags the game down a whole lot which is a shame because I really liked the makeover CS gives to the old SoC levels and the atmosphere created by the visuals and audio effects is very strong, especially during nighttime since Clear Sky introduced actually dark nights into the series. That said it's a nice shooter to romp through and after that The Faction War mod fixes many of my complaints and actually succeeds in injecting some proper A-Life into the game so it's definitely worth a purchase.

Man I wish I had $10 to spare for the games. I already own all 3 of them hard copy but I want COP and SOC on steam so I can see how many hours I can rack up :v:
The amount of idiots on reddit that are recommending new players Complete and MISERY is just staggering.
Well what do you recommend? I'm seeing a lot of "mod snobs" putting on airs of superiority because they sludged through a buggy and unbalanced vanilla experience... "Bu-bu-but it makes teh game easier for da filthy casuals"! To me it sounds like it might be a better entry point for new players that aren't accustomed to the series. I want a pack that has a graphic overall, bug fixes and suit/weapon repair mechanics.
Bugs are part of the experience.

If a player wants to have their hand held through the entire game series then they should be looking at different games. If you insist upon making the graphics look better then this will hopefully solve your problem: http://absolute.crommcruac.com/ Here's some bug fix mods: SoC: http://www.metacognix.com/files/stlkrsoc/index.html CS: http://stalker.filefront.com/file/Sky_Reclamation_Project;121820 As for the ability to repair things in SoC someone else in the thread probably knows what to do.

Just picked up CoP and CS, presume I should play them in order and vanilla?
Just picked up CoP and CS, presume I should play them in order and vanilla?
Yes. Assuming you've already played SoC then just follow the usual order of SoC, CS, CoP. Have fun!

I'm also guessing that half the people who recommend complete haven't even played it yet and are going by the mod page description, if they did they would know that Complete is bug ridden, outdated and it makes the game a walk in the park; it says that it keeps everything about the gameplay intact but it literally changes everything about it. You can easily get better graphics than complete by installing absolute textures and atmosfear. Misery on the other hand isn't a bad mod but recommending it to a person who has never played a STALKER game before is just plain stupid.
Yeah Misery was stupid hard at times. Not as bad as people here make it out to be.
Yeah Misery was stupid hard at times. Not as bad as people here make it out to be.
Difficulty is only a minor pain in MISERY. People here usually complain about the brown and gritty colors, could be easily fixed by installing a textures pack upon, but still..

Remember my Facepunch Starter Pack in the OP.
Remember my Facepunch Starter Pack in the OP.
I've been looking for the person who made that, what's in it if you could remember? I want to make a section on the repository for things that people could/should do when playing STALKER for the first time.
well shit that's neat whole series for $12.50 hopefully those new to the zone either make their way here or to the /vg/ threads and don't start off with mods.

That's all.

So I was playing Sidorovich edition when I started to wonder why I was having difficulty killing people with my mosin nagant. Then i realized that I was using a bolt action rifles while everyone else had high capacity automatic weapons. And that I was a retard.
New to the Zone here! Is Nimble supposed to turn hostile after you rescue him? I passed him to the camp several times and one time he just started opening fire on me.
Added a new beginner's information section to the repository. It still needs a lot of work and any input would be greatly appreciated. Clear Skies alpha was released a couple of days ago http://www.moddb.com/mods/cs/downloads/clear-skies-v026-alpha-7z-manual-install Looks really damn good graphically, giving it a download now.

No. He simply left the bandit place and I wandered around for a little while. Around the third time I went back to the camp someone started shooting at me and it was Nimble.

Also I didn't know I could make custom steam folders for my library. Time to make it so. How do you make Steam show those icons?
