You know, I don't think a game has ever made me excited for a song before now. The way music is used in Rising is one of my favorite aspects of the game.

has anyone ever thought that ishmihel or whatever is just an illusion created by psycho mantis?
Maybe, he most likely doesn't stay with boss the whole way through the phantom pain being that it leads to just ocelot and boss on a horse.
has anyone ever thought that ishmihel or whatever is just an illusion created by psycho mantis?
yeah probably is
Ishmael helps BB up at the start but beyond that there's no physical interaction and as Ittla says he seemingly disappears at the end. The fact he injects him with some shit and helps him up initially kind of makes you wonder though.
What?? Is that stuff really in the MGSV trailer?
Ishmael helps BB up at the start but beyond that there's no physical interaction and as Ittla says he seemingly disappears at the end. The fact he injects him with some shit and helps him up initially kind of makes you wonder though.
psycho mantis has telekinetic abilities... what could have happened is either mantis used his telekinetic powers to inject the boss. or simply made the boss inject himself with the drugs, but all under the guise of ish doing it, through boss's eye at least. one more thing about that argument. ishy says that the drugs don't seem to be working that well, implying that boss may not have even been injected with anything in the first place. and again, telekinetic abilities. manti probably isn't completely full power by this time so he can't pick big things up, but with his telekinetic abilities he might be able to shove large things in a direction... much like the help ish gives to boss. [editline]13th April 2013[/editline] also it's a hospital. you'd think ishy would put boss in a wheelchair. personally i think the phantom pain is going to be a chapter, kinda like the tanker level in mgs2. the thing about it though is that it's going to be boss rebuilding his army and probably meeting up with his future partners in crime like revolver ocelot and psycho mantis. possibly even introduce ways to use psycho mantis and revolver and other people to your advantage if you can recruit them (it would be a dream for me to work with psycho mantis, favorite boss in all of mgs1 hands down)
It seems all a bit much to trick BB into thinking he was being helped like that. The question is if it is mantis and he is helping BB then why? I don't see the point of him fooling boss into thinking he got injected with something then saying it didn't work. Why not just pick him up and move him along if he never intended to inject him with anything? Most of all why help BB like that then start terrorizing him with these fucked up visions? I'm convinced Ishmael may be a red herring of some sorts. A character made for the trailer or just a character who will be taken out by the end of the tutorial.
because the man has been in a coma for 9 years and his last memories were of losing everything. [editline]13th April 2013[/editline] mantis could have been sent in to retrieve the boss. but imagine mantis just strolling up to boss, some kid with long blonde hair, no nose and a gasmask... you really think boss would react in a civil and rational way? ish is probably mantis's way of "taking a form you can understand" while at the same time keeping his own ass in safety. also remember mantis was born crazy as shit. even though he might be a protagonist that doesn't mean he wouldn't fuck with the boss a little bit. that would actually be kind of an awesome dynamic, to have to work with someone who's utterly evil but they're also a very necessary evil and useful part of the operation. [editline]13th April 2013[/editline] one more thing manti's mask is not only to keep the voices out, but it's to hide his hideous face. ishy's face is completely hidden by bandages. why is it? it doesn't have to be. when ish says "i've been watching over you for some time" that's probably mantis speaking through the illusion to boss, and it's really mantis who's been keeping the boss safe. really if you think about it who else better than mantis to keep boss safe while he's in a coma? he can read minds, sense trouble coming from a mile away and most of all he alone could probably do the best job of disrupting any threats converging upon the boss while mantis guides boss to safety.
Im not buying into that. Ish is either Gray Fox or someone previously unheard of. If Cypher was attacking the building with the very apparent mission to eliminate everyone ishmael isn't someone else. Also "give him a wheelchair" get real he wouldn't stroll him around in a wheelchair especially since they had to hide under a bed during that part where the soldyas was going through the place and executing erryone. [editline]13th April 2013[/editline] Like it doesnt make sense at all.

Ish does not exist. just like moby dick studios

I don't know where you got the notion of long blonde hair from? He's been severely burnt therefore I would assume he's bald in his actual form. The kid we saw had medium length ginger/reddish hair, dirty blonde at a stretch. I never questioned or even said anything about mantis walking in as his true form. I just think it's a bit illogical to pull all this shit if he's supposedly helping him. Mantis had severe burns all over his body, including his head. The mask as of now could be hiding those burns. If Ishmael is a projection of sorts then it could be a sort of signature to have the bandages on his face. Also the major thing that kind of shits on the idea of it being Mantis is that Ishmael was watching him for over 9 years. Mantis is roughly 14 at the time of Phantom Pain.
yeah cause it's way better to claw your way around. if ish was real he would have put boss into a wheelchair. also it kinda sounds like you're grasping for straws here... there have been so many scenes in every kind of media where someone sneaks someone out of a hospital in a wheelchair. i can probably think of a few where the hospital was being stormed by goons with guns as well. it would have been way better to get in a wheelchair simply because you can move at an exponentially faster rate, also it isn't hard to be clandestine about it. Seriously, BB wakes quite some time before the incident occurs.
Uh, one thing there, Psycho Mantis wasn't born crazy, he was a talented psychic who delved too deep into the mind of a killer while on a job for the FBI/CIA and became one himself.
Uh, one thing there, Psycho Mantis wasn't born crazy, he was a talented psychic who delved too deep into the mind of a killer while on a job for the FBI/CIA and became one himself.
This too.
Uh, one thing there, Psycho Mantis wasn't born crazy, he was a talented psychic who delved too deep into the mind of a killer while on a job for the FBI/CIA and became one himself.
So why did he kill everyone in his village?
So why did he kill everyone in his village?
I think he said he did it to hide his past. Or some shit like that.
I think he said he did it to hide his past. Or some shit like that.
No it was because when he was like eight he thought his father was going to kill him.
No it was because when he was like eight he thought his father was going to kill him.
this. also you really take things for what they literally are way too much and don't give any wiggle room. okay maybe mantis can't see people from a mile away, but picking at semantics like that is just dumb, and doesn't make me look like i'm grasping for straws at the least bit? either way mantis is severely fucked in the head. he said himself that without the mask all he could hear was other people's thoughts, and trust me having a really noisy mind drives you crazy really fucking fast. what i'm trying to say is that mantis is probably an antagonistic protagonist. also he may not have been watching over the boss the whole time, he may have been referring to whatever group is looking after the boss. mantis loves to fuck with people, be it friend or foe. he could just be having fun with the boss, or he could be doing that old time tested thing almost all japanese media does "im testin u bich"
Since no one commented on this in the last thread here is something cool: [thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/13644843181101.png[/thumb] It's from the Psycho Mantis fight in MGS1
Since no one commented on this in the last thread here is something cool: ~image~ It's from the Psycho Mantis fight in MGS1
I thought that had been mentioned. Unless it was a different thread about MGSV
We've known about it for a while.
When you fight Mantis, if you manage to kick him(there's like a 1 out of 20 chance of landing hit, so use FAMAS, then kick), and call Campbell, he'll tell you that Mantis doesn't like his own gaze or something, so he wrapped up his statues, and that you need to smash those busts, it'll make him unnconcentrated, much like if you use different controller port, making him unable to dodge your attacks. Anyway, that's why they are covered in bandages.
He'll also tell you about the bandages if you don't switch the controller ports and die. Kind of a back up plan if the other port is broken.
I mean you guys ask why all the theatrics, why not just this, why not occam's razor you obviously forget who you're dealing with here... he's fucking with us constantly if it wasn't phantom pain being a completely different game he's not involved with in any way to david hayter's not voicing snake to the raiden surprise of mgs2. [editline]13th April 2013[/editline] the battle with psycho mantis, the insane, twisty plots that make no sense... kojima, your argument is invalid... after all all i'm doing is speculating, i'm not stating truth or anything, just what i think.
yeah cause it's way better to claw your way around. if ish was real he would have put boss into a wheelchair. also it kinda sounds like you're grasping for straws here... there have been so many scenes in every kind of media where someone sneaks someone out of a hospital in a wheelchair. i can probably think of a few where the hospital was being stormed by goons with guns as well. it would have been way better to get in a wheelchair simply because you can move at an exponentially faster rate, also it isn't hard to be clandestine about it. Also stop saying i'm "grasping at straws" for trying to see it as it is. You're the one over-analysing meagre input to get the results you wish for. Let's break it down: Mantis was born in 1970. PW takes place in 1974. I could only assume that GZ takes place quite soon after that, and if BB is in a coma in 9 years, the year of MGSV would be 1983. Mantis would then be 14 years old. It is known that Mantis joined the KGB and worked at their psychic whatever division until the collapse of the soviet union. that was 1991. THEN he joined FBI to help uncover crimes. In 2000 he left FBI after he adopted the psychotic personality, became a freelancer and eventually joined FOXHOUND in 2005. Consensus: At the time of MGSV he was probably working for the KGB and had no reason to be at whatever hospital BB is in. If the child in the trailer was him (which I agree is likely because of the circumstances), then it's definitely not because he's helping Big Boss, especially since BB is considered rogue and the KGB would most likely be hunting for him.
Uhh, didn't USSR collapse in 1991? Also, MGSV takes place in 1983, not 1993.
this. mantis loves to fuck with people, be it friend or foe. he could just be having fun with the boss, or he could be doing that old time tested thing almost all japanese media does "im testin u bich"
Where exactly did you get that from? He'll fuck with the heads of people he considers an enemy but beyond that there's 0 evidence to suggest he would mess with an allies. I think you're just letting your hopes get too high. [editline]13th April 2013[/editline]
you obviously forget who you're dealing with here... he's fucking with us constantly if it wasn't phantom pain being a completely different game he's not involved with in any way to david hayter's not voicing snake to the raiden surprise of mgs2.
There's been nothing to say he's not involved with MGS5 infact quite the opposite. The last time he gave a statement on involvement he said he was gonna have more creative control this time. He had to jump in on PW to save it so to speak, he probably doesn't want anything going wrong again.
