Dr. Kio Marv doesn't speak English though, because in MG2 during the time when you had to contact him via Codec, Solid Snake was unable to understand his native language, Czech. But this could be false.
Anything from MG1 & 2 can be easily retconned.

Being perfectly honest, i doubt many mgs fans have played them.
I mean, its my favorite series, i have mg1 and 2 but just haven't gotten around to it yet.
They're more difficult to get into than the other games. The first one especially takes a while to get momentum.

Plus they're fucking ridiculous
Is the flag supposed to imply it's England?
Isn't that why people thought it was Liquid post-MGS with memory problems?
Cyprus was a British territory up until 1960 and I think still has bases there.
You're forgetting one key thing here (40 seconds in)...
We're talking about Big Boss here.
If he was able to understand someone else speaking a foreign language, you wouldn't know it.
I know people who still to this day cant comprehend that the everyone in MGS3 is speaking in Russian and its just in the players language for convinience.

volgin is a retired power ranger

Today I remembered the CQC Hug, and couldn't stop laughing. Oh John and David, you are the best father-son team ever.

*Jack
*Jack
Jack was a nickname for John in the 60's, if I recall correctly.

I thought the point of him telling Ocelot his name was John was because he didn't want ocelot to know his name because ocelot is a fucking creep.
My name is Jack and I input that in the MGS2 consoles let me tell you how confused and awed I was the entire game.
i'm pretty sure his real name is Jack, but because he doesn't want to tell Ocelot his real name he goes with John, like in John Doe
I thought it's Big Boss's real name that was Jack...or was it David (Hayter, :v:)
He says his name is John because earlier in the game somebody remarks John is a boring name.
He tells Ocelot his name is John with a smile on his face.
Ocelot knows it's bullshit which is why after the duel he says "Till we meet again, 'John'" with emphasis on the name. Ocelot smiles to show he knows Snake was bullshitting and Snake smiles because he didn't get away with it.
He tells everybody else his name is Jack.

Ah now I remember the John thing. He tells Paramedic his name is John Doe.
Which it obviously isn't.

Actually it's probably a translation thing. Major Zero points out Ivan has the same name as Nake. Ivan is the Russian version of the name John/Jack. Kojima possibly thought John/Jack were the same name. Like Will/Bill.
[editline]3rd June 2013[/editline]
Actually just checked. Kojima said in an interview that the name John is an alternate version of the name Jack.
Can't say I've ever seen that but okay.
It's John.
Actually according to Kojima it's both.
Jack is an alternative for John in his mind.
I've met quite a few people who will answer to both John and Jack if you call either name. Same with Will/Bill, Rich/Dick, and a few others.
jack is a nickname for john you fuckers, ever hear someone call JFK jack kennedy?
I suppose Jackson and Johnson are synonymous then?
[editline]3rd June 2013[/editline]
And Jack > John. No exceptions.

What? No, what are you doing.
THE FIRST NAMES John and Jack can by synonymous, that doesnt mean the surnames can be, dude, come on now.
My name is Jack and I input that in the MGS2 consoles let me tell you how confused and awed I was the entire game.
At the end when he threw away the dog tags i couldn't comprehend what the hell was going on.
Jackson can also be used as a first name.
Presumably the same with Johnson.
Though I didn't think that -son would be innately surnames :v
jack is a nickname for john you fuckers, ever hear someone call JFK jack kennedy?
Yeah my grandfather was called John but I never heard anybody call him that, so I've always thought Big Boss is called John but prefers the nickname Jack.
Metal Gear Solid - Tactical Megathread Action VIII. What was Big Boss's name again?
