I spent about two hours trying to catch one, so either they are still very rare or I'm unlucky. I know that my mom spent at least a week trying to catch a coelacanth and a banded dragonfly on the GC version, so they were at least really rare in that version.
Is there some trick to make the island beetle catching go any faster?
These things are so goddamn sensitive they fly off the screen before I can even see them fully and sneaking isn't helping whatsoever. This shit is pissing me off.

Hold down A with the net out, and you'll run slower. Even then, move in short bursts, moving a couple feet at a time before stopping.

How much are you donating and what are you catching? Sticking to only large sized beetles, and carrying as much as possible from the island, I've been netting ~300k each trip. If you're only getting 50k, then you must be bringing back only fruit beetles or something.
