Animal Crossing Megathread - Games

So I am going vidya gaem shopping tomorrow. Debating on getting this. What in it is new/different from the DS version? Because i found the DS version got boring quickly and was just filling a museum and farming fruit for nook.

Can anyone tell me how I'm supposed to catch a Char? Do they just spawn randomly around the waterfalls or do I need to do something? Haven't been able to get one thus far.

I've started paving a path using tiles on an alt character, is there anything I should know before I go through with this? For example I found you can't dig on them, is it possible for cracks to spawn under the tiles?
