Does New Leaf attempt to match the local weather? I don't know if it's just a coincidence, but for the entire time I've owned the game my town has had very similar weather to my local area.
Just found out that all the guides I've been reading left out the part about the dream suite actually being available 7 days after your first public works project and not 7 days after you became mayor.

No. It's been typical sunny California here, while in-game it's been raining almost non-stop for the past 3 or 4 days.

Man, after paying off the second floor and basement I've been knocked down to 200,000 bells. Guess I better go pay a visit to the island again.
The furniture remaking stuff is so awesome. Its always so varied and surprising. I remade a Regal Couch in pink for my sister and it has just the right amount of subtlety to the color. Not garish at all. I think this is one of the features the developers spent the most time on with this game.

I'm pretty sure the weather is random, I time traveled once because my friend was an asshole and chopped down my perfect fruit tree, so I could grow it again I went into the future and back and it was raining on a previously sunny day.
There's been a thunderstorm in my town all day. It's also been drizzling almost every day for about the past week.
Alas, the coelacanth has still managed to elude me.

Like you can choose a modern bridge instead of a cobblestone bridge for example.

I received my Prima guide today and just...holy shit. Flipping through the complete catalog, I had no idea New Leaf added THAT much new furniture. They have pieces for literally any and every setting you want to make your house into. There are so many things I want to mention, but I know some people consider those spoilers so I'll keep them to myself.
I was also unaware of over half of this Japanese DLC and I never got any of it in my JP game because no English blog or site mentioned it. FUCK.
