As soon as you unlock the island, just go there during the night and catch beetles that sit on the palm trees. Catching sharks there will also net you a good amount of cash.
Make sure to put the beetles and sharks in the Drop Zone box to bring them back to your town and sell them to retail there. Selling them to the little girl on the island isn't worth it, she only pays 5% of the real value.
I usually get around 300k per trip to the island.
