I remember seeing somewhere that in City Folk if you reset your game 50 times he actually deletes your save, not just the "joke" one

Maybe it depends on your answer?
I guess I forgot to save before quitting, and he appeared. When he asked me why, I told him "I don't remember". Then then said something along the lines of "Oh, well in that case", and just disappeared. I figured he'd pop back up if I tried walking away, but that was it.

I have yet to reset my game (for I am a good egg), but from what I understand they toned Resetti down, as well as removing cranky villagers who threatened you
