I'm not sure where I read that, might have been this thread, but being friendly, they usually move out anywhere between 2.5-4 weeks
Humor them until they ask to go, and let them.
Villagers you become friends with will ask to leave a lot sooner than ones you don't, as a test of friendship.

How long does it normally take to earn the friendship of villagers?
There really doesn't seem to be a surefire way to get villagers to move out. I'd been trying to get two of mine to move out for weeks, one I've been smacking, pushing, and pitfalling endlessly, the other I whack occasionally but for the most part just ignore.
The one I'd been ignoring moved out two days ago, first one's still kicking around.
When I wanted Doc gone, I just annoyed him, pushed him into a pitfall and hit him with my net. Next day he was packing his boxes already.
I think there's another way to speed up the process. Have someone come to your town, and when the villager in question asks how that person's town is, tell them to make it sound awesome.
The last person I had over wouldn't stop talking to Queenie, and now she wants to leave. She hasn't even been here ten days!
I forgot to mention this earlier: Talked to Pudge this morning, and he tells me that he re-painted my roof, being a master painter and what not. I race back to my house, and the roof was now [I]pink.[/I]

I'm pretty sure it's the third one. Though I remember the first time a villager painted my roof was after I'd changed the color once already. Didn't know they did it sooner...
Also... Sort of off topic, but the latent Brit in me finds it hilarious that thanks to the font used on the nookling store signs, it looks like the second and third iterations are "Tat Mart" and "Super Tat".

I probably missed it, but how are people getting out of the boundaries of the map? I keep seeing screenshots of people in the train tunnels, inside waterfalls, etc.

In case you don't feel like it though, it involves someone pushing you against a boundary while you're locked in an item animation.
