There are actually two different sorts of Gyroids. The ones you dig up are your basic sort, which are implied to be of either ancient or alien origin and have absolutely no thought process or sentience whatsoever, but the ones you mention (speaking, asking, giving, saving) are called Lloids.
Lloids are basically hand-made natural computers that serve basic interactive functions and can be configured to suit certain needs. Their voice is artificial and they have no mental capacity aside from what is imprinted upon them when created. Think of them as simplistic robots operated by magic, crafted or recruited to perform mundane or lonely tasks in any and all weather without complaint.
I always thought Lloid was just one intelligent Gyroid that did any job nobody else wanted to do.
I.e. contractor, tool dispenser, auction house attendant.
But that does make a lot of sense.
Somebody should do a Dream Suite search of how many Hyrules there are in existence.

If you get 3 gold nuggets you can ask Cyrus to make you a piece of gold furniture. Other gems can be used to recolour furniture, again through cyrus

Nope, [sp]I haven't sold a single thing at Re-Tail yet Cyrus woke up a couple of days ago, but for my brother, who has sold a bunch of items there, he's still sleeping. I think it's influenced by how much time have you played the game, because I have played much more than my brother.

I'm stuck in a rut in my town because I chopped all these trees down to make room for a police station (which isn't funded yet) and it's made my town less green. I've been buying and planting flowers and it isn't helping because they all wilt the next day, and even when i try to bring them back from wilting they just die out the next day anyway.
Other than trees, how can I get out of this?

Go to the island and play a tour (I would recommend bug catching) and steal all the flowers you see, then fill your basket with 40 flowers and just plant them in your town, the areas respawn each tour so you can easily get an infinite amount of flowers
