I had the same issue, three days ago i gave in and bought it. It is definetly worth it. It keeps sucking me back to earn some money or do things around the village, and every day is exciting because there is always something new and fun to do.

Only works if they're wearing patterns, I'm afraid.
The feature is intended to clear away any obscene or offensive things a villager might pick up from somewhere (where they moved from, someone visiting, etc)
