I nor anyone else I know have ever experienced a hard crash that wasn't caused as a result of messing with glitches.
However, if you have the digital copy, it may in fact be your SD card malfunctioning. Plug it into your PC and check it for errors ASAP.

Nah, no glitching here. Never cared for it. I was trying to upgrade my SD card to a larger size, brought the files to my PC, then saved them to the second card. Like a fucknut I wiped the first disk before testing the second and now it goes all "Shit son you have old save data on here, can't let you play".

Meaning they're on some incredibly goofed up schedule of some kind of whenever you're on, they're on. Then again, that means they can't take care of the animal's needs. Not like they ever visit the town hall though. Or at least I think they don't.

Apparently the reason why the next DLC items are available through all Nintendo Zone locations is because people discovered (and heavily abused) the SSID trick for the Best Buy ones. Yeah, I got Soleli in my town as well.
If you look up villager birthdays on Thonky, you can figure out what gift would be perfect for them as well. In Soleli's case, I gave her a go-go tee.
