So I just got a 3DS with New Leaf and have been playing for a few days. Extended my house once and started building a bridge and oh my god everything is so expensive help I'm catching fish to support my interior design problem

Have you been to the island yet? You should have unlocked it by now, it's a great way to make money. Golden Stags and Horned Hercules go for 12,000 each, and the smaller ones still go for about 6,000+ and they're pretty easy to catch once you get the hang of it.
The problem is that they don't start spawning until after 5pm, and usually come out in full force at 7pm. So if you don't play during the evening/at night, you miss them.

I usually play during the evening and after I get home from work so that suits me. I even went as far as to enact the Ordinance that makes everyone stay out and keep their shops open late.

you can but only after having at least 50 weeds
if you get friends to pull just 1 weed you can get more pieces

If you want to use your island as a cash cow, make sure you remove all flowers and trees in the grassy parts of it and only have coconut trees on the beach. Otherwise, other bugs will usually spawn places other than the beach. Sometimes you'll run into grasshoppers and stuff, but just run into them until they leave. Beetle catching may be a bit hard at first but once you get the hang of it you'll make bank in no time.

The first thing my little brother noticed is that the stationary she gives you during her "advice" dialogue is the same stationary that the letter from the "real mayor" is written on.
Has anyone else noticed this yet?

I still suspect conspiracy, but maybe that's because it's more fun that way.
Also, the island is dope. Place is crawling with rare and expensive bugs at night. Making mad bank from that place.

I just got this game, and so far I'm loving it. It's nice to have a chill game that I can just kinda poke at for a few minutes at a time during the day.
