I have never killed anyone apart from a few bandits I shot with my pistol.
How does melee work? Every time I am forced to go melee, I click the knife icon and the enemy hits me. I do it again and get hit again.
I was even attacking a guy with a shotgun when I had a hatchet. By all means I should be faster, but he hit me three times in a row with the butt of his gun.
How do I axe?
Also, is there any endgame content? I am in day 16, all set with food, water and resources. All characters are fine. Also haven't kileld a single innocent. Most areas are closed due to fighting.
Melee combat is janky. Try stealth killing enemies, otherwise you're in for a tough fight. It seems to be RNG based.
This game can be fun, but it can become such a downer for me the longer I play. I guess the game has done its job, then.

You can stealth kill?
I scavenged a building marked as "exercise caution" and found a pile of corpses with a description along the lines of "These corpses have been brutally hacked to pieces. Whoever did this must have been a deranged psychopath". I then heard a few people say "He's trying to scavenge, should we kill him?".
"Excercise caution" my ass. That was a full blown danger zone.
yeah marko in my game died there. I tried to kill one with a crowbar but it knocked him back a few feet and then shot him ( I never used the assault rifle before and it seems to shoot in 3 shot bursts, I only brought 6 rounds) I tried shooting the other two but ran out of ammo.
currently on day 36 the cold has passed but im getting really low on ammo and its very difficult to find.
You can stealth kill?
If you're doing the slow, stealth walk or you're hiding and you get behind an enemy within melee range, the icon changes and you'll get a guaranteed hit (as far as I know) that'll do way more damage.
I think I read somewhere that a knife is a guaranteed kill, but I know for certain that unless it's Boris, you're not certain to get a kill. I once snuck up behind a militiaman with a crowbar with Marko and it just barely didn't kill the guy.
Having the soldier with a knife so far has been pretty much unstoppable.
I can kill just about everything.
Is it possible to give the old man medication for his wife?
I have SUCH a hard time transitioning. Like I usually do good for the first 10 days and then when things start to get tougher, I just suck. The farthest I've made it was 22 days and that was mostly by luck :v:
Damn it
Wish we could go send multiple people on scavenging raids.
I mean...geez...the backpack space is not enough if you want to scavenge basic supplies.
The only viable option I've seen so far is to loot everything that is very valuable (moonshine, diamonds, canned food, etc) and to either trade it the next night or wait for the merchant to show up at your shelter.
This game needs mods. NAU. Somebody please mod a backpack system into the game.

First Priority should be acquiring weapons and securing your shelter. The level 2 workbench lets you repair the holes in your walls. After that, you're pretty much safe from raids. Work on getting a shotgun (uses the least ammunition for defense) and leave it at home with some rounds, always.
Usually the younger girl with 12 backpack spaces, the soldier, and Pavlov (football player) are the best units to make scavenge, because they carry the most and are the strongest. Always go out with at least a Crowbar (and a Shovel at first). Collect medicines and trade them for food with merchants and traders. I'm at 29 so far on my latest.

That's exactly how you do it, and hope your starting house has a ton of goodies in it (had 2 diamonds this current game!)
You scavenge for supplies and medicine to trade. Then trade it for building materials, especially wood. That shit is ridiculous that it only stacks in 2's.
How do you guys even get food I run out of food really quick and almost never find any when I scavenge.
Rat cages.
All the rat cages.
Also producing moonshine and selling it at central square for tonns of meat.

Yeah but it kinda forces the player to play through one strategy. Why not send 2 guys at once and have one scavenge only wood (bringing min 20 units) and the other one components/parts (Brining min 40 units). Because you might need to build something/use the wood and the merchant might not show up.

Yeap, ridiculous.
I just managed to get two AK47 rifles, one shotgun, one pistol and a lot of ammo on day 5.
Crafting a knife in the starting days is just way too important. Way more than having a shovel or a crowbar.
Went to the supermarket with Marko and one knife.
Saw some looters at the entrance organizing themselves so as to loot the supermarket.
One went upstairs, a woman went to the basement and the remaining guy guarded the entrance.
I made some sound by running in the same place and he slowly came towards me (the exit). As soon as he was close enough, I took out the knife and started slashing him.
Notice he only had his AK, so no close combat ability. As soon as I landed the third slash on him, he was dead. Bingo, 2 AKs and 9 ammo.
I dealt with the woman by using the concealing and insta kill mechanic. And the other guy fell down to my 2 bursts of 7.62 ammo.
The other thing I now find badly done is the "Oh God noes I have killed another human being".
Its like the characters can't distinguish between killing an elderly man or some bandits that were about to kill them.
Marko came back and he broke...wtf.
EDIT: If those little quirks are fixed or improved, it's a clear 10 out of 10 game for me. So while their remain, it will keep being an 8-8.5. I lost my game by accidentally clicking on "ANOTHER TRY" and then on "YES".... >:'(
I had those people at the supermarket, they were friendly. The guy that came out just said " hey, there's plenty of stuff for all of us here"
Your like my friend who plays it like DayZ and starts killing everyone. Including the old people and their son.
Man fuck the combat system in this game.
I'm standing right in front of this guy's face and tapping the shoot button on him as fast as I can and I'm doing tiny little slivers of damage with my AK. Now I lost all my bullets and one of my rifles.
The combat system is nice and quite simple. You won't get any hits with an untrained civilian if you spray and pray, you need to wait untill the bar fills up (it's called aiming under stress and in darkness) and becomes orange for a critical hit, the more the bar fills up, the more damage you do. Same with meele. That's why you should get Roman, he's a fucking soldier and can kill just about anyone with his fucking trusty hatchet

If you waited it out, those were actually friendly people and that is why he felt sad. My guy went to a bandit zone and when he came back everyone was saying "we have to do what we need to, to survive".

Theres only two events that can happen at the supermarket, both can be told by reading the description. If it says military controlled its the bad event where you should bring [sp] a knife to kill the soldier about to rape the teenage girl [/sp] or the one where 3 guys are looting a supermarket and say there should be enough for all of us. They dont feel bad if you steal, they only feel bad if you shoot/hit/harm anything. Plus they dont feel bad if they re auto hostile to you
I'm at day 20 and food is starting to run low. Any suggestions on how to keep my people from starving to death? I've got 11 cans of tinned food at the moment, but that will only last for a few more days if I don't find a reliable food source..

Those rat traps are constant, if a bit slow. If you're lacking parts you could try to trade for food via moonshine or cigs.

Then how do I deal with the Villa? I mean, the one that houses "Emil"?
I once sent Pavlov without guns to the place, and when the girl saw she went upstairs running and then Emil came down. I escaped and then came back armed, killed him and my guys felt bad.
Why?
I'm up to day twenty-something and have somehow managed to feed my people a good meal every day, leaving me at the end of each day with very little or no food. It's a struggle I tell you what. They're usually sitting on 'content' though so that's the good news.
One thing that does bug me and left my scavenge without anything a couple of nights is when you accidentally piss someone off (say the guard at the hospital in my case) and run off and he chases you to the exit symbol. Then you come back like 5 days later and he's still standing there aiming his gun at you instantly...

Because they are trying to survive, you are trespassing on their area. If you would wait( im seeing a pattern here) they ask you to leave twice then fire. Your killing innocents.
This game is basically FTL set in Eastern Europe, it's awesome

Cheesiest is right, If i recall, the supermarket bandits are friendly, and if you run into them (at least in my encounter) they were neutral and stated there was plenty for the both of us.
AK's and Pistols are nice, but everytime you get raided and spend ammunition, it blows like 4-9 bullets. If you keep knives and at least one shotgun, you usually only expend 2 shells, and everyone doesn't need to be armed with a gun if you've upgraded your home and got plenty of knives.
It's all about conservation! Any other weapons should be bartered, spare the ones you chose to scavenge with and shotguns. Buy up and collect ammunition early, if you can.
Also, don't send just anyone out to kill. Pavlov, Anton, and the solider are good choices. Everyone else gets upset, but they just give "It had to be done."
those're my best words.

Yes, I'm doing this with AK's and pistols.
Damn it.
Is it me, or Franko the trader is becoming more exquisite? I mean, I could get a lot with a single AK before, but now it doesn't even pays for 7 stacks of components or wood.
And what's up with the locations? Is there a max limit, or I have to wait more? Because its day 35 and I have visited all locations, yet nothing more appears. If I recall, the garage, the decrepit square and the market haven't showed up yet.
Wish I could trade with the military outpost, I got so many alcohol and cigars but so little food and fuel...seems like we're going to have to steal again. They always send me back. I guess it has something to do with the news that military were carrying out atrocities against civilians.
Having 2 animal traps is just glorious. And God bless thouse neighbours who brought in 5 vegetables. That makes up to 10 meals =D
By the way, the snow looks rad as hell in this game. It's awesome.
Man, I'm reading everything you guys are doing and I'm just sitting here feeling bad about netting stuff out of someone's kitchen and booking it.
It's so powerful that your guy feels bad about it later, but you get to feed everyone at the same time because of what you stole - it seems so simple but also really moving
If only I had $20 :'(

Mind you, I quickly failed like 10 ten times in order to learn where to search and who I had to kill. Plus you have know when to build stuff or otherwise you are wasting items.
It's incredible, because at the start of the game I'm pretty sure everyone was tempted at bringing stacks of 2 wood and 4 components, yet later on started looking for canned food, ammo, etc etc but when winter comes everyone is crazy again about wood.
