wave of enthusiasm for cyberpunk 2020? in real life? do you live in a localized pocket of 80s, and if so, how do I get there
Nah, local groups here just got sick of Pathfinder and, while they enjoy Shadowrun, also wanted to try "pure" Cyberpunk games. Speaking of which, you all should also check out Interface Zero 2.0 for the Savage Worlds system. I was never a fan of Shadowrun's clunky, complex rules, and Cyberpunk 2020's system bothers me in a lot of ways (I get the books for inspiration and the art), and Savage Worlds is neither of those. Hacking is---gasp!---not a pain in the ass to learn, for one.

In a not-so-distant future, the world has been ravaged by global warming, subjected to the horrors of nuclear war and natural disaster, witnessed the collapse of the mightiest nation in the history of the world, and the rise of other nations to take its place. In East Asia, the Russian Bear and the Chinese Dragon battle for control of the resource-rich continent, and an emergent A.I. known only as Charon has destabilized the whole of Europe, sparking revolution and chaos not seen since the Second World War. On the North American continent, the prospect of conflict once again rears its ugly head as terrorist bombings in the post-American Civil War nation of Atlantica, bring them to the brink of war with the North American Coalition. Is this the work of Charon, as well, or are other forces moving behind the scenes? Only time will tell. Science has hacked the genome, unlocking the secrets of DNA to facilitate the creation of new breeds of human; genetic hybrids, human 2.0, and even simulacrum— a slave race grown in amniotic vats and sold on the open market. Cybernetic technology has reached the point where those with the money and the will to do so, can become living machines. Computer science has grown by leaps and bounds as well. Dubbed Interface Zero by those who created it, the Tendril Access Processor—or TAP—downloads the Global DataNet and Hyper Reality directly into the minds of billions of users across the solar system, bringing the world an unparalleled level of interconnectivity, and danger. Malware plagues the Deep, and hackers manipulate the Tendril Access Processor to upload malicious virii, steal secrets, and even the identities of the unwary. This is the world in 2090, omae; let’s hope you survive it. Interface Zero 2.0 is a cyberpunk game powered by the Savage Worlds game system. Play bioroids, full-metal cyborgs, vat-grown simulacra, genetic hybrids, Human 2.0, and even androids! Hack the world around you with our revised hacking rules, or take control of a drone and lay down some fire-support for your team! Get cybered with new cybernetics using our Fast Furious and Fun rules!

Woooow. Using one-handed weapons on their own just means you're too poor to buy anything else. Westley -> Farm boy who's poor, became a pirate whose fortunes rise and fall with the tides The Count -> Imprisoned, finds treasure but gives it all away/uses it Jack Sparrow -> A pirate, just fucking lucky and would die if he was any other man Robin Hood -> Outlaw in the woods, uses a piece of wood and string to fight Samurai -> Shitty nobles who played pretend fighting for kicks and then took it too far
Pah, you are but a peasant, you have no sense of how REAL heroes fight, no sense of adventure or wonderment! [sp]also, guess who also uses a one handed weapon? Finn the Human. Get rekt.[/sp]
Pah, you are but a peasant, you have no sense of how REAL heroes fight, no sense of adventure or wonderment! [sp]also, guess who also uses a one handed weapon? Finn the Human. Get rekt.[/sp]
[sp]Finn holds it two-handed when fighting though[/sp]
[sp]Finn holds it two-handed when fighting though[/sp]
Not always, he switches a lot. Probably one of the biggest problems with seperating one-handed and two-handed weapons and giving each their own seperate skill trees, really. There's a lot of overlap there.
Actually having the one-handed skill tree having stances that grant differing bonuses wouldn't be a bad idea. As in like an offhand to lower enemy ac or whatever, or two-handed for extra damage.
Actually having the one-handed skill tree having stances that grant differing bonuses wouldn't be a bad idea.
next, give two handed weapons a one handed option and then just merge the damn trees
Nah, keep two-handed for just crushing everything with overwhelming force. While leaving one-handed as a more versatile, change how you fight on the fly, tree.
where do spears fit into all of this anyway i can't imagine smashy two handed skills fitting very well
Spears should be completely separate.
Spears and Polearms are covered under two-handed weapons.
well they ain't [editline]13th June 2015[/editline] and there's no throwing weapons category at all, either
Spears were actually often used one handed with a shield in history. They were also thrown quite often. It wasn't until pikes became common place that the style of a large pointy stick commonly became a two handed thing. Spears are pretty complex mechanics for how simple they are as objects.

That's part of why I think sticking weapons into large categories like "two handed" and "one handed" weapons like this isn't a great idea. I mean it works for video games where you're not going to come by any more exotic weapons or fighting styles anyway, but in much more free form tabletop RPGs it's just a recipe for disaster.
Perhaps "reach weapons?"
I'm an unabashed fan of Cyberpunk 2020, but I love Savage Worlds too now I'm torn
Compromise: use savage worlds rules in the cyberpunk 2020 setting. Youd have to do minimal, if any, "converting". In fact I wouldn't be surprised if a conversion exists out there already.
the thing is, I actually like the Cyberpunk 2020 rules too :v:
What is it you like about it? I'm genuinely curious, because depending on what it is it could be easy to incorporate those elements of the rules into Savage Worlds.
Nerts: Oh shit cro g.: oh shit Mellow: oh shit Dafta: oh shit
Hacking into Zurich Orbital from a missile silo owned by what's probably SK despite being within NAN borders is some serious shit.

I'm not a huge fan of 2020's rules as a whole but the combat definitely felt great.
Thinking of running a Fate game Thursdays 7-11pm UTC within a week or two and looking for 3 to 4 players. Setting will be Post-Post Apocalypse mixed with Arthurian legend/Medieval history where players are knights or squires who discover ancient artifacts (That are far more advanced than what they can produce) and the likes on quests whilst protecting and building up their lands or courting ladies. Think Numenera mixed with Viriconium. The one player I currently have and I are both new to Fate so newbies welcome. We'll be playing through roll20 for IC and be using voice for OOC. PM me for more details.
I never post logs of my Weird Wars 2 game so i might as well give you a visual representation: [t]http://i.imgur.com/tvWRSiX.png[/t]
Some friends and I started playing D&D for the first time recently. I'm trying to understand my character fully before we get going, but I've hit an obstacle. I'm giong to be playing a cleric, and in the basic rules PDF found on this page, it says I must choose a Domain and see the Player's Handbook for details on all of the domains. However I can only find the handbook/domains for 3.5, which are different than the ones listed in the player's basic rules version 3.4. So, could anyone point me towards the players handbook for 3.4, or at least information on the available domains?
403, doesn't work.
Unless that's the idea and his games are nothing but broken.

The player's handbook they're talking about is the one for D&D 5th edition, D&D Basic is a stripped down version of 5th edition. Kind of like a demo. Those rules are for 5th edition, the domains in 5th Edition are Life (Basic & PHB), Knowledge, Light, Nature, Tempest, Trickery, War (PHB) and Death (DMG). "3.4" is just the version of the D&D Basic rules it is, not the edition.
