well for one spears are probably the most nonsensical choice for urban combat :v: seriously though, it's a cyberpunky game, who in their right mind would go for a spear
I might be wrong but fairly sure trolls have a reach of 4 with a spear or polearm. A troll adept could probably wipe out a room of goons before they get within retaliating distance.
I swear, my d20 is cursed. Tried to cast Scorching Ray last night, rolled a 3, a 4 and another 3.
I think I used up all of my bad luck playing 40k a few months ago, fired a volley of 30 or so shots with some ork Lootas. None of the rolls were above a 3, I just stood there and stared in shock for a while
I always feel playing 40k devours all of my dice luck Like there was a period for I swear at least a month where I got no good rolls in anything after a squad of my gaunts made a necron HQ squad run off the board first turn Then I got new dice and I was fine. GW dice are some kind of cursed 1d6-1's or something
So I had to call out my friends again in our pathfinder game for not using things correctly. I feel like a huge dick about it, but it's like they don't even bother to read how certain things work. Almost all of our ranged characters use composite bows incorrectly. They've been adding their strength modifier as damage regardless of the bow's rank. There are other things that I'm still finding out, but I hate feeling like a "rules guy" all the time.

Many years ago, when we first started playing D&D, one of my friends taught us to play, and his explanation served well enough. But then I went and actually read ALL the words in the book, and discovered the thousand things we were doing wrong. [editline]22nd June 2015[/editline] Also, on the subject of bad die rolls - I'm the worst. This doesn't manifest when I'm GMing, which seems like it's probably 85% of the time (85% of all statistics made up on the spot, etc.), but as soon as I have a character sheet, it's on. I play a halfling in D&D 5e if only because of the huge volume of 1s I roll. Played in one this past weekend and still rolled two 2s twice on advantaged rolls. In the 7 weeks we've been playing Shadowrun, none of my players have rolled a Critical Glitch, whereas when one of my players ran a one-shot SR game, I was the first in the group to do so. Pretty much anytime I try to do anything cool or implement a good idea, it's 1 season again. The takeaway is that I'm cursed.

Though there was that time I blew up a pilot of an aircraft with eye beams whilst jumping off a cliff and dodging gunfire without taking a scratch which I was pretty happy with.
Actually come to think of it, the one thing I consistent rolled well was knowledge skills I think I got 20's on like, 4 different lore rolls in our Numenera game, much to the GM's annoyance
I'm still upset about the fact that the guy I made to wreck shit in melee has only managed to land, like, 30% of his attacks, because everything succeeds at dodging or parrying.
Respectfully rats, that's the same for everything in the game, because the enemies have the exact same problem hurting you guys when everyone has dodges and parries in the 60's-70's And you do utterly stupid damage so they'd be idiots not to try and avoid your atracks

Have you not been PROPERLY training your dodge/agility and taking Side Step? Then the REAL dodging fun begins! Also, just remember that you can only dodge/parry once a round unless you have a talent that says otherwise. Makes hitting high agility characters much easier remembering that little fact!

It's okay though, because it does ridiculous damage(3d10k2+10, right now). [editline]22nd June 2015[/editline] And also because I have a total of 10 damage reduction from my armor and toughness bonus, and I'm still using (best-craftsmanship)guard flak. :v:
They're only rank 6, and said bit mostly applies to single foes not being able to get through, which is honestly well and good because most of them could take down the PC's in a swing or two if they connect. The mobs of mooks tend to hit a lot anyway, with varying degrees of effectiveness, and they usually only dodge because my GM dice are hot And yes, I know the system, I've played it for literally years, I know the default is one reaction per turn
Yeah, just wait until one of your friends shoots at them, then attack. [editline]22nd June 2015[/editline] OR better yet, just ready a charge to attack during their turn; You can't use reactions (and therefor can't dodge/parry) on your turn.

Not that you really need to do anything like that, melee is already so brutal with chain weapons.

Knowing their own rules is the least any person can expect from someone.
So, I want to DM a game of something, not sure what. Want to see if I can create a new group outside my normal one, to get more experience but also meet new people. I've been thinking of either running Dark Heresy or a Pathfinder game, I created a large/semi-deep setting(here is the link for it) for my current group but as it stands it kinda feels wasted. I would want to test it with other people, preferebly some that are able to take it "serious" but not "too serious". Send me a PM if anyone is interested. Timezone would be europe GMT+1, system will probably be pathfinder. I have a requirement on an at least 3 line backstory, I don't want anything long. Just why your character is out adventuring.

Plus I love desert settings.
Cyberpunk thread is looking for a GM for their Cyberpunk game
Unfortunately, I have no experience in Cyberpunk (2077), only in Shadowrun 4th edition. At the moment, I'm more in the mood of fantasy.
I'd like to try it out if you did Pathfinder/any other fantasy game. So just add me on either steam, or PM me here if you are interesting.
Cyberpunk thread is looking for a GM for their Cyberpunk game
You're probably not going to find a GM for quite a while, especially one who'd want to GM Cyberpunk 2020 :v: Your best bet is to get someone in the group to GM it for everyone else. I would step up to the task but currently I'm busy with other things. However I can help you get all the books for you, give pointers to the GM/Players, and help the GM make adventures or whatever kind of prep stuff he wants. I like to see more people playing CP2020 and although I can't GM the game myself, the least I can do is make it as pleasant as possible for a newbie GM running a big ass game.
I have a requirement on an at least 3 line backstory, I don't want anything long. You won't know how badass my character is and all the cool things he does that will be completely inconstant with mechanics in the game proper.

The idea is to play once per week on thursdays, probably later evening US time. (any of these times: 5PM, 6PM, 7PM). Since I have no life this works for me, but if possible the earlier the better.

I already have an actual copy of Cyberpunk 2020, two expansions and a campaign. Just saying they needed one
But how can I give you my reasons without at least an 8,000 word doc of dry explanations. You won't know how badass my character is and all the cool things he does that will be completely inconstant with mechanics in the game proper.
I like to give my GM two docs that I make when fleshing out a character. The first is usually in the character sheet and is a quick blurb of who and why, while the other doc is the much more fleshed out backstory that the blurb turned included for the sole purpose of plot hooks. If he doesn't want it, no biggie.
After reading about Old Man Henderson, I have officially declared that when someone comes up with more than 2 pages of backstory, their character is as good as dead. Especially if the backstory contains a few paragraphs in German.
I rarely write back stories out, and when I do it's just notes for myself to jog my memory. If the GM asks me about it I'd just have a chat with them, much easier to get my thoughts together for that than writing a short stoey.
-snip-
I usually like random background generators, then fix or fill in blanks at my leisure. Though admittedly I do have a tendency to write pages on pages worth, mostly for my PF characters, though occasionally for other systems And if you give me anything scifi to write fluff for I will do so till the cows come home and the stars fall down
My backstory lengths tend to depend on how interested I am in the idea of the character, in general. EG, I've got 2 characters I made a month or so ago that I haven't gotten to play yet(one because we're waiting on something to happen in a current game before we pause it for a bit to do the game this guy's intended for, the other because he was gonna be a potential reroll but the game seems to have just completely ended). One of them has two pages(1373 words) of backstory, the other three(2042 words). I've also still got the backstory I wrote for an exalted game I played about a year ago with a bunch of people off the official Onyx Path forums(which I still regret going to). I wrote five pages, for that, and then by the time the game actually started(GM kept postponing it), I'd largely lost interest in the character. TL;DR when I write backstory for a character I want to play, I tend to go for at least 2 pages, unless I'm given reason not to.(See: "Keep your backstory short.")
