How hard is it to learn Shadowrun as a newcomer to Pen 'n' Paper RPGs? Last time I checked the rulebook was quite massive.
Shadowrun's complexity is mainly due to there being a couple of different systems in play at any time, which is a nightmare for the GM since they have to pay attention to all of them.
However as a player you only really have to worry about 2 or 3.
For example if you want to be a dude with a load of cyberware who shoots people, you only really need to know the basic physical 'meatspace' rules (Movement, concealment and vision, weapons, etc), how your implants work and how many you can have without running out of essence, and the basics of the matrix rules (Calling people, smartlinked guns, AR glasses).
But can you put those SR 5e breast implants on dudes?
Yep, a convincing sex change is 10,000ny too.

Anything for a max efficiency face.

Hmm alright, count me in anytime, probably will start with simple things, to get used to the game.
SR5's new book Chrome Flesh has some ridiculous stuff in it, there's a cyber poop bag, dynamically resizable breast implants that can be hacked, cyberdongs and all the furry stuff make a return, and move-by-wire is now absolutely insane.
i like how that brought two people outta the woodwork to ask about getting into shadowrun
are we talking about shadowrun
Yes
I did it
5 months almost to the day of Rogue Trader
we finished the wedding, kicked butt, did the big kiss, then went out to me playing Power over roll20's jukebox
I feel good about this
full insane story of everything they've done coming later when I've recovered
are we talking about shadowrun
are we ever not talking about shadowrun???

The D&D threads have always been 50% Shadowrun, 29% other games, 20% DRAMA, and 1% D&D.

Does Pathfinder count as D&D because everyone seem to love that.
Does Pathfinder count as D&D because everyone seem to love that.
It's basically D&D, yeah.
Except sans the grapple rules Pathfinder is 200% better than DnD.

nothing worse than only really having the option of one game
To be fair you can do quite a bit with the 40k RPGs, if you put in a bit of effort.
Granted, my biggest gripe with Dark Heresy 1e, Rogue Trader, and Deathwatch is that you're stuck to a pretty strict advancement path, but Black Crusade, Only War, and DH2e are all way better for letting you build however you want.
[sp]Main reason I dislike the strict advancement is it means I'm restricted to like 1-2 psyker powers per rank which means if I don't want any of the Talents on offer I've gotta save up hella xp to buy characteristic advances until I rank up.[/sp]
You can also kitbash an Orks-only game from Rogue Trader's Ork mercenary classes.
Speaking of which: Who would be interested in an Orks-only game?
Even as a non-psyker I dislike it. I've got 6-12 talents on my Missionary in Rogue Trader that see absolutely 0 use but I bought them anyways because I needed to spend XP to rank up.(And because they may SOMEDAY see use, but it's pretty unlikely.)

tbh yeah but wh40k rpgs are way way more open than just plain ol d&d option wise
you've got your rich space assholes, your WWI in space soldiers, your secret space agents, your SPESS MEHRINS, your anime space elves, and fuck if you want fantasy you can always play that too
[editline]2nd July 2015[/editline]
fuck beaten
also orks, yeah
never not ork

d20 is just no thanks for me.

Yeah. Kinda sad really.
Back to Shadowrun tomorrow night, after 4 weeks away. Except now my Decker player is stolen away from me by a new job, so the guy who previously played the super armored-up Troll is making a new character to fill the gap. We'll see how this goes.
Mmm, time to try a game of Paranoia. Anybody have experience? Is it fun?
