Oh, yeah, I made a rogue who has expertise in performance and persuasion whose sole purpose is to pick up women.
I can't wait for the GM to make the NPC cast a sausage fest.
I always feel weird when I GM because I default so many npcs to female because all the characters I play are female
also trust me the 'picking up people' archetype is destined for disappointment. I've tried like 4 times (unsuccessfully), Rearadmiral's comic stylings as the world's most lovable spaceship captain always fail (hilariously), basically it's the sort of thing that seems to only work when it occurs naturally during play
Like honestly the only time I ever made a character where that worked was in an L5R game we played 2 sessions of where my kitsune shugenja seduced a guy to save us a ton of trouble in getting paperwork, and that was a character I never intended to do that with
Note to self: when two defensively played characters who both have minor regeneration get into a fight, bring in divine intervention.
Because the 1v1 can and will last upwards of 4 hours.
At least the yandere (translation: murdercrazed infatuated obsessive stalker) caught her love in the end. I'm sure the rewards for being captured by your murderous stalker who is in love with you and who has a penchant for poison and wine will be great indeed.
GM'd the D&D 4e Red Box with 3 friends. They nearly died to the first encounter against a couple wolves and goblins, and then ended up getting killed by a white dragon.
I guess the short adventure is meant for 4 players and not 3, but my god were they rolling so badly. One player was only rolling either crits or crit fails. They ended the first encounter with two characters at 0hp. The red box monsters had such high HP and attack modifiers.
Going from Pathfinder to D&D 4e is pretty crazy, but we had tons of fun.

For comparison, the two offensively played characters had a 1v1 at the same time that took like a fourth of the time, and we just had a draw in the end :v:
I wish pnps were tactical enough for 1v1 combat to be fun.
Although youcould just have every 1v1 set in an industrial center so you got environmental hazards like whoa
i always wanted to play a scene where its like an 80s action duel in a factory. A lot of sneaking around and shit, there's like a car crusher or something and a bunch of other hazards, the kinda place where if you miss your shot then you'll probably hit a steam pipe or something

Some of the really complicated combat systems like Blade of the Iron Throne make 1v1 combat really tense even without environmental hazards. Though in most other systems using the environment is the main way of making 1v1s fun.

always solid advice
man I gotta run FS2 one of these days
So how is Dark Heresy 2.0? I just finished GMing my Black Crusade campaign and I'm currently looking into types of game after deciding on sticking with the 40K RPG system for now as I should start learning about one I have experience, rather then trying to pick up a completely new system.

Well, our Dark Heresy 2.0 game just ended, and I enjoyed it pretty thoroughly. It's essentially just the same game, just slightly more refined.
My DnD group fell apart...Again...for a 3rd time. I don't blame them, but I just wanna play. Might start running a game myself.
Playing call of cthulu 6th ed in 1920s and I'm a veteran German wwi fighter pilot. The laguage barrier is making it great because I know basic as fuck english. But I got 4 crates of hand grenades so fuck it.
Not enough hand grenades.

More out of curiosity than anything, are you really set on playing D&D? Which other systems have you tried or are interested in trying?

I have a copy of Rogue Trader sitting around. I ran it all of once. I also have a copy of Rifts laying around for some reason. I think it was $10.
Aside from that, it's not like I haven't played a decent chunk of RPGs, it's just the ones I know best and can probably run is either D&D or Pathfinder.

Dark heresy was the first PnP RPG I ever played an will always hold a special place in my heart... Dang I wish I could play some FFG WH40K RPG sometime. Every campaign I was in since the ill fated "cabbage truck incident" has collapsed.
Do tell, in DH2.0 can the psyker still rack up 60 damage with chain lightning or some other nonsense? I found that it was possible for a psyker, by way of Shape-changing and Burning fist to rack up around 40 points of damage in a single punch assuming he rolls fairly averagely. If he thought he could pass the maintenance check the next turn he could also fly while doing so.

Entirely possible with stuff like MOLTEN BEAM, not seen Smite in use but I'd imagine it can also get daft very easily.

High level psykers in 40k RPGs can do WICKED SICK amounts of damage. In our Black Crusade game our resident Slaaneshi psyker OHKO'd an Eversor Assassin with one volley (when it finally hit), then turned to the Culexus who was trying to shut them down and gave them the same treatment.
But they pay the price in that, to access that ridiculous amount of damage you must PUSH, and with that comes VERY BAD THINGS, so .. y'know.
I know I've basically started a Shadowrun game, but I want to get Dark Heresy 2 just because I love 40k so much.
So I need a battle-mat or something similar for my IRL group. Is something like this worth the price? It seems nice and all the reviews are great, but I'm still not sure.
Just get a whiteboard. While they are a bit pricey, they are undoubtedly big enough for nearly whatever purpose you might have. You could even get one with a grid if you needed to.

Can't afford something that can get in the $100 range for the same size or larger as the vinyl sheet. Me and my friends thought about trying to all chip in and buy a grid whiteboard table (or making one with a whiteboard and something for the legs), but still, too expensive.

Well, the vinyl sheets seem good enough if money is that big of an issue, though the party chipping in for something like that would be nice. You'd probably want a couple of them.
Another alternative would be to get some large size graph paper, like, maybe at a Kinkos or something. Get a huge 'banner' with a grid on it. Wouldn't be much cheaper though, sadly.
A final option is a large pad of graph paper, and I mean large. Here's an example. With 50 sheets that should be enough to have MASSIVE maps, given the size of the pad.

That's a good idea. Cheap, and a decent number of them.
The thing that draws me to the vinyl sheet though is that its reusable with just a quick scrub from a paper. But I will definitely keep that graph paper in mind.
I find, however, that the 'monopad' or whatever its called is kind of funny. The only complaint about it (other than my personal complaint of $100+ for it) is that its TOO big. Bigger than a dining room table. A bit excessive.
It doubles as a table cloth so you can justify it to anyone that asks how much it costs obv.
It doubles as a table cloth so you can justify it to anyone that asks how much it costs obv.
It is double the width of a dining room table and quite a bit longer.
That's a big fucking table cloth yo.

Could make for a good wargaming cloth, if that's your thing. Sure the vinyl thing is reusable, but if you really want something reusable it's worth springing the extra for a full on dry erase board imo.
It's worth saving for a white board imo. My groups have tried the other options, but we always go back to the white board.
I have betrayed my previous promise. I had said that if I got to play Shadowrun I would play a cyborg with the barest fraction of an Essence remaining. Well, my buddy is starting up a monthly Shadowrun game for a few out-of-town-friends, and instead I'm going to play an adept. But I am going to play a combat-heavy adept with ALL OF THE GUNS, so that redeems me somewhat, right?
