Savage Worlds might work but we've also considered home-brewing Call of Cthulhu. We have two campaigns lined up. 1. A 1970's spy thriller where we need to fight an evil genius. 2. A more modern campaign where a small group of strangers travel around the United States in hopes of destroying an eldritch cult.
1 is definitely SpyCraft. Could also use Savage Worlds, FATE, or Feng Shui, depending on how ridiculous and/or rules-lite the GM wants it to be. 2 could be either Call of Cthulhu(you wouldn't need to homebrew, really), or nWoD Hunter, depending on what the GM wants to do with it.(CoC if you're completely ordinary people fighting other people who will inevitably lose because the eldritch beings are too powerful for a few mortals to do any REAL harm to their plans. Hunter if you're people who start out as ordinary people fighting things that could be considered people, if they weren't so damn evil/terrifying, or straight up monsters, and eventually become powerful enough to actually do something to them.)
Fuck, ended up late again to my monsterhearts game. Curse you cross-timezone gaming! It's in my phone for next week, though. I will not be late again!
Are we talking about a certain someone who's name rhymes with "Dirts?"
I don't think so, unless "Dirts" has a name other than "Dirts" on Roll20.
I hear a story coming on. Please, continue.
I've always been terrible with stories, but the gist of it is I'm the sole pure human character in a party full of edgy furry or furry-sympathetic characters. You know the types, the whole "woe is me the hyoomans discriminate so hard against our fat knotted dicks and propensity to act like creepy abominations." I dealt with it because, apart from the players and their oh-so-easily-offended habits, the DM is solid and the campaign is good. Luckily, I also made a Zweihander Sentinel Warder, which is one of the toughest motherfuckers to come out of Path of War, and easily a Tier 3 Martial in a campaign dominated by shitty "flavor" builds and people who don't know how to make a proper Cleric. The problems didn't begin after I killed half of the first party after they threatened my character's family, the thing that's really burning my bacon is the party Kitsune Rogue tried to cuck me. Like, straight up, hand's down, sleep with my wife and dominate her and, by proxy, dominate me. The only reason he met my character's wife (and our obnoxiously large family, part of the reason the character went out adventuring since it pays the bills) is we needed a place to lay low after we stole documents pertaining to a certain Duke's certain interest in overthrowing a certain King, which I wanted to use as blackmail but the immeasurable minds of our party thought they'd be best used for killing the evil dirty Human king and set in motion events that would lead to an extraspecies uprising, or something. Anyway, back to the house. So people are settling in, the half-succubus Oracle trying to play nice with the kids while the others look into the documents we acquired. But the Rogue? Why, the moment he discovered my character's wife was a Kitsune herself (modeled after Ahri, the DM knew how to lure these sorts in) he was all over her, complimenting about what beautiful tails she had, sharing stories about the old homeland and talking about her successful family. Everything that happened afterwards was hearsay given by my wife, the Rogue and the DM through personal messages, but here's what I could glean. The fucker tried to put the moves on her while she was out doing the chores, the wife went along with it to a point, and when everything seemed to be going his way the wife ripped the Rogue's balls clean off. Something about he needed time away from the boys so he can learn not to touch other people's wives. So this Rogue just stumbles back into the house, bleeding all over the damn place screaming bloody murder, and that's where the session ended because me and the DM were laughing our asses off while everyone else was doing anything but. [sp]In a delicious twist against any petty revenge the party might inflict on my character or his family, the DM has assured my the wife is a highly optimized Sorceress with enough templates, spells and feats to solo a straight up gank squad. Things are going to get funny very soon.[/sp]
Played a one off D&D 1e game. Highlights involved our elven assassin bursting forth from a poisoned cake, screaming, naked, and shanking multiple random people who tried to catch him before escaping into the wilderness, burning down a carpenter's shop, assassinating the mayor during a public speech with a very well rolled arrow, murdering an old married couple so we could hide in their house, and ultimately failing in our ultimate goal after the halfling was electrocuted, the human fucked off, and me and the elf were thrown in prison.
I've been dungeon mastering D&D for a bit of time (4e materials but mostly homebrew system), but I'm looking for something a bit different to try out. How would I get started with Shadowrun, and how would that transition be for my players that haven't played anything before besides my D&D campaigns?
Tonight on Apocalypse World: Horribly scarred Edge Mcsniper promises the barmaid not to make a mess, then saves his gorgeous singer-wife from a kidnapper by intimidating a hulked out bitch with a shotgun, then doing a heelspin and doubletapping the guy who had a knife to her throat in the brain with his sidearm. Having 3 Hard is awesome.
Are we talking about a certain someone who's name rhymes with "Dirts?"
Rude. [editline]19th July 2015[/editline] Honestly my current SR character is probably the furriest thing I've played and even then she's a neurotic weirdo with a fucked up face rather than "furry". Unless gnolls or werewolves count as furry but that character was pretty hardcore, punched out a vampire in one round and crawled through a pit of spikes.
Speaking of CoC we're playing a game now set in the twenties where the DMPC is former president Theodore Roosevelt. It took place in an alternate universe in which Roosevelt stayed awake on the night of his death, challenged Death himself to a match of fisticuffs, and fought him, becoming immortal in the process. I usually hate DMPCs but holy shit, this is great. Basically Teddy Roosevelt is now head of a secret government organization started by Abraham Lincoln to root out eldritch cults in the United States, and regularly operates in the field with other agents. Watching Teddy tank the shit out of a nyarlathotep while we kill cultists is fucking great.

The similarities end mostly with, sometimes you roll dice to do stuff. Although if your players are halfway competent it's not hard to wrap your head around dice pools.
-story of fucked up furry weirdos.-
This is fucking great. Your DM sounds amazing. Sorry you have to deal with the weird assholes though.
That was croguy and he said that he kinda lost motivation for it
Well I mean I could get back into it. But I'd have to radically alter the system to make sure the combat rolling doesn't suck. Because the combat rolling sucks. HARD. And I do mean HARD. Some time earlier I was overlooking the content for a friend of mine and I was wondering how much of a crack-addicted mess did I have to be to make something so stupidly stretched out.
So last night I managed to get through an entire game of Traveller using only social skills and stealth. Shit was tense, yo.
unless, say, you want a game without cyberpunk or a sensible dice system
Except Shadowrun's dice system is 100% superior. Bell curves rule, linears drool.
So last night I managed to get through an entire game of Traveller using only social skills and stealth. I realize how much I fucked up when I ran a military game and didn't let the players shoot shit for the last half of it.

Which is a little more reasonable. I mean, it's still not lovecraftian, but that seems to be the way most people GM a CoC game these days. They all want their "Old Man Henderson" moment.

That's what they're called. My memory fucking sucks. IIRC the cult worships Nyarlathotep. That's why I said that. [editline]19th July 2015[/editline] Off topic: what's a good system for a western style game and where's a good place to get some western/steampunk minis that isn't Reaper. I'm thinking Savage Worlds would be a good system, but Pathfinder could work, too.

Especially if you want there to be any kind of magical shit going on. Specifically ghosts and zombies and shit. Otherwise, Savage Worlds could work, as could Fate.
So, my womanizer rogue is going well, but not the way I expected. I try to roll Charisma rolls to do courtesful shit and say the right words, but I crit fail half of them and instead hit my head on the table. However, I'm in luck, as my first prey is a warlock female with a familar. Every animal handling roll on the familar ranged from an 18 to a nat 20. It got to the point where the familar is begging the Warlock to allow me to sit next to her just so I can roll ridiculously high on my pet rolls. Bitches be falling for my intense petting skills, man.
Would you really need to use a Handle Animal check on a Warlock familiar? Last I checked those things were essentially ancient spirits inhabiting animal bodies, which means it'd be Diplomacy. Still, headpats are headpats, and a happy Familiar is a helpful Familiar. [sp]Fade-to-black with the familiar in the room would lead to some amusing banter, methinks.[/sp]

Hey, idk how many of you guys are into Halo, but there's a fan-made Halo tabletop game in development/nearing release. The guy behind it has put in an absolute fuckton of work and it seems pretty fun thus far. There's also a subreddit for suggesting changes and keeping up with developments.
