And you are my replacement for FP's resident Mekton GM, it's a vicious cycle.
Can we have a legacy going, then? I'll kill Smas and be the resident powergamer. :vs:
Alright, so people complained about a lack of challenge in the last session, so I decided to rack the difficulty up on the enemies to Deadly level. Cue my group rolling 5 fucking nat 20s in short succession and destroying the entire encounter. fuck me that was hilarious but god damn it guys
So, what do you guys consider a golden ration for damage tracking for characters? Is general HP that increases with level good enough? Is it trying to track every wounded/damaged organs, for maximum instant death? Or perhaps a Deus Ex system where each part of the body has associated HP that reflex on character's performance when they are damaged enough?

Headshots double damage, taking 8 damage to an extremity (including the head) takes it outta action and forces you to roll a death save as if on Mortal 0 (presumably hitting an artery/pulverizing bone/etc.) It takes 30 damage to take a cyberlimb outta commission, and of course it won't kill you - just leave you weighed down with an useless chunk of chrome and steel. (or you could just bypass that and zap your neighborhood cyborg with a microwave gun or some EMP, but that shit's rare and expensive, holmes) With each shot you take you have to roll a stun/shock save - you can see the modifiers under the damage categories. The more you get shot up, the tougher it is to remain standing. You also suffer penalties to stats - first just your Reflex stat (which governs combat efficiency, and everything else you'd expect a Reflex stat to do), then also your Intelligence and Cool (tough to remain cool when you're trying to hold your guts in). Once you hit Mortal, which only takes 12 boxes of damage, you have to start rolling up saves to stay conscious - and to stay alive. There's no insta-heal stimpacks or anything like that in the game, either - the best you can do is stabilize and hope for the damn paramedic company to get here as soon as possible. Oh, and a 9mm bullet deals 2d6 damage. And you can fire an average one four times in one turn. Cyberpunk 2020 is a lethal, deadly fuckin' system and I love it

Shock damage temporarily inflicts pretty severe penalties like halving your speed or knocking you out if they hit you in the head whilst killing is permanent damage such as losing a limb and will make you bleed out. Can be very deadly, especially in ORE games where you can't make your entire body metal. I really need to run a game of Wild Talents sometime, the setting is cool as fuck. Until the timeline reaches the 2000s, then its Atlantean Alien men invading the world after 60 years of Alternate History gritty superheroes, its a pretty strange change in pace.
Always wanted to try an ORE game but I hate the whole HeightxWidth dice mechanics

For instance, a night attack that lures half the party off to pursue a foe, then have both halves be attacked HARD. The ones pursuing the bait fall into a pit trap or something, which is full of oil and lit, a group of dudes shooting down at them from the mouth of the pit. The ones back at camp are hit hard with spells like Entangle, Slow, or Hold Person then ganged up on.
Can we have a legacy going, then? I'll kill Smas and be the resident powergamer. :vs:
Let's not turn TTRPGs into Game of Thrones. Or maybe we should?
best way to deal with unnatural luck is to give them challenges they can't solve with just a roll
Personally, I'm a fan of the wounds and critical damage tables from the 40k RPGs. But I also like the Storyteller system(WoD/Exalted/Trinity/Scion)'s health track. Although I'm particularly a fan of nWoD2e's health and conditions system, since it lets you disable an arm without just dealing damage and saying 'ok, that arm can't be used anymore.'
Let's not turn TTRPGs into Game of Thrones. Or maybe we should?
You mean Highlander. Game of Thrones is for nerds and since there can be only one, Highlander came first and has less casual penis shots and thus is superior.
has less casual penis shots and thus is superior.
Uh, I think you mean inferior.
"Vampire the Masquerade is a game that uses the cursed and immortal vampiric condition as a backdrop to explore themes of morality, depravity, the human condition (or appreciation of the human condition in its absence), salvation, and personal horror. The gloomy and exaggerated version of the real world that the vampires inhabit, called the "World of Darkness," forms an already bleak canvas against which the stories and struggles of characters are painted. The themes that the game seeks to address include retaining the character's sense of self, humanity, and sanity, as well as simply keeping from being crushed by the grim opposition of mortal and supernatural antagonists and, more poignantly, surviving the politics, treachery, and often violent ambitions of their own kind." "This talent is like the Eat Food Merit, but twice as versatile. Food comes in; food goes out very, very fast. A vampire with this ability can ingest, and possibly even taste, food and drink. He cannot gain any nutritional benefit from this ordinarily digestible matter, but he can store it for later use. When this need arises, the Nosferatu can not only disgorge his stored supply of food, but also aim it with a degree of precision. For the record, projectile vomiting in the Storyteller system usually requires a Stamina + Athletics roll; the difficulty is 8, and the victim can attempt to dodge this bolus of ejected victuals. Although this attack does not cause damage (save one's pride), the type of food ejected may temporarily obscure a victim's vision, cause him to slip or merely force him to weep with shame at a Camarilla Toreador's grand ball. Pity the poor vomit-drenched Toreador...."'
Tales from the apocalypse: One of the city watch is a skinny chick who considers herself literally married to the wall that surrounds the city, and the local religion involves praying to a corpse inside an iron maiden.
For some reason, this reminds of attack on titan/shingeky no kyojin Since [sp]the local religion worships the walls that keep the titans out as goddesses or something, and the walls are made out of titans.[/sp]

After the city was besieged by Chaos [sp]daemonic magic fused all the city's inhabitants together with the city creating a massive, fleshy wall that groaned and screamed.[/sp] Storm of Chaos was fucking cool and I hate that they retconned it. I always use it as the setting in my WHFB themed games because the other timeline sucks shit.
roll20 allows you to physically roll dice now i still don't trust it
I remember I stopped using 3d dice since our DM told us it wasn't true random. Also all these negative comments about d20 dice rolls makes me want to use cards instead of dice :v: I wanna cover the world in D6s [t]http://puu.sh/jaK72/bb8272cacc.jpg[/t]
So I tend to lurk this thread but I'm interested in playing something, only thing is I've never played a PnP proper before. Sat in on a mates sessions weekly for a couple of months but a slot never opened for me even after they started a new campaign so I stopped wasting my money, was still a blast to watch, they ran a custom pathfinder adapted to a spacey-sci-fantasy type setting, fun with evil space angels and infectious crystalline diseases ahoy. Other than that played one session of a mates early testing version of a homebrew fantasy maritime type deal, had systems for ship customisation and stuff we never actully got to use in the shortish time we played, but I was a hulking undead mute warrior in platemail who only showed his face once, which was when he became the god of death to a small indigenous island tribe after he stole their magic rock and killed their Chief in ritual combat, unarmed. As far as the party 'knew' I just walked out the jungle with a shiny rock and a new obsidian headed axe. So if anyone is willing to take on and mildly babysit this doofus let me know. If it helps I'm in the UK for timezone stuff but wake late in the day, have work on unpredictable days mostly between 3/6-11pm and tend to stay up to the early hours so idk if an American session might work better for me :V
He does, because they're using my sheet. Technically speaking, you're his replacement in my campaign, sooo.
Can you perhaps share the sheet? I remember trying to make one but i stopped at some point.

3D dice would be fun with opposed rolls in Shadowrun.
goddammit i keep hearing that 3d dice is superior since there are physics calculations involved instead of just depending on the treacherous RNG
mechanically 3d dice are exactly same thing as the /dice RNG, just in a different skin. it may seem more random and 'reliable' because you can see the dice rolling but ultimately the RNG makes the results the instant you let go of the dice [editline]24th July 2015[/editline]
Infinite dice spill out onto the board Meanwhile, at Roll20 HQ, servers are exploding left and right
the roll you see on your screen is based on the server's result, so it wouldn't cause any more lag than rolling a lot of chat dice

There are often games being started around here as well, but feel free to try your luck with /lfg/. The trouble with ANY pickup group, especially internet ones, is that it's a VERY mixed bag. You don't know a thing about any of the other players or the GM, so you just have to hope that it will all work out.
