pfft wouldn't have changed much the power of mob mind is too great to contain
I dunno, going from 12 karma worth of powers to 30 karma is kind of a big jump
I friggen love D&D 5e so far. All my experience with RPGs before this are with Palladium games (Heroes Unlimited, Rifts), which are a heck of a lot of fun, but have some annoyingly complex rules, skill systems, and general number crunching. D&D 5e lets me have all the fun of tabletop roleplaying with a very simple core system. Nothing I've tried so far has been poo-pooed by the DM for not being strictly outlined in the rules. Hell, my girlfriend killed an invisible bitch by clobbering her with a bag of flour, revealing her for everyone. It's great! It's the way a fantasy roleplaying game should be. A simple core system that can be easily adapted to anything you want to try that doesn't punish you for thinking outside the box. Fun story from last night's session: we were playing a quest where we had to fuck up a cave full of cultists, and were doing pretty swell. We get to the boss, a winged demon harpy thing, and our bard player says, "I roll to seduce her!" The DM laughs and says, "the only way you're going to succeed at this is with a natural 20." He rolls a natural 20. We had to kill her without him, because she swept down, picked him up, and gently placed him on a high ledge to canoodle with later. Dungeons and Dragons.
I dunno, going from 12 karma worth of powers to 30 karma is kind of a big jump
most of the powers werent that important tbh, and i could easily have gotten them after chargen anyway
After playing a couple sessions with 5e, it's definitely my favorite system now. Pathfinder is nice but 5e just lacks the clunkiness of some of the 3.5 systems. I can't wait for more content to be released for it, but some homebrew stuff has been pretty high quality so far too.
If I didn't know better I would think that those were official materials.
There's a surprisingly large body of homebrew material that's already been made for 5e. While I like to do a fair bit of tweaking (particularly on adventures which seem too cheap on the monetary treasure angle without decent reasoning) much of it requires little to no effort to work with in a campaign framework.
If I didn't know better I would think that those were official materials.
Yea, there's good templates for making rulebook-style stuff, and the rulebooks are already clean and simple so it's not hard to make really high quality stuff.
question, does anyone on this thread use roll20? if yes, is there a group that I may join? I just made an account and I'm looking for people to play with.
just spent all night rolling up a satyr magician for a shadowrun game i wont even really get to play today the struggle is real :tired:
I've got characters from Anima, Cthulhutech, Cyberpunk 2020, Dark Heresy, Eclipse Phase, Only War, Rogue Trader, Shadowrun, Top Secret and World of Darkness that I most likely will never use. I feel your pain.
question, does anyone on this thread use roll20? if yes, is there a group that I may join? I'd be stoked to join up if any of ya'll are running a 5e game.
I tried finding a D&D group on it, but could never actually get anything rolling. Also, a wholly custom setting because I can't be assed to bother with FR anymore, at least not until that class/setting supplement book comes out.
i've been trying to get into DND for ages, but there really don't appear to be any decent game shops around here. are there any good online communities for beginners? [editline]27th August 2015[/editline] just did a board edition of a pathfinder game and had a blast with it, have been wanting to try dnd since
Just lurk around here, someone will start a game eventually. It's how I got most of my players in all the games I've run, either an open recruitment here or just by asking people I had previously recruited here to join a new one.
I'm gonna pitch an idea for a Shadowrun plot, let me know what you think. Starts off with the team taking a job from a very wealthy Johnson to investigate mysterious deaths of pro athletes after police fail to find much, they get handed a bit of intel and investigate some bodies, bit of legwork/B&E on morgues, etc for that, they manage to piece together that a) all the athletes are augmented, b) they're all formerly big names who're over the hill, c) they've all been killed by blunt trauma or magic, and most importantly d) they've been dying roughly in order of the highest advertisement and merchandising earners. Since they know that, they can guess who's next to go and keep an eye on them, this allows them to find and confront the killer, a mystic adept vampire Charles Barkley, where they either just kill him and get paid or talk to him, if they talk to him he explains he wants to purify sports of sell outs and share his power and skill with who he sees as true players. If the players try to reason with him he offers to settle things with a basketball game where first to score wins, if he wins they agree to either leave him alone or help him (and he'll share his power with them for helping), if the players beat him he'll agree to stop or make a formal confession (which would get them paid for solving the murders). If they agree to helping him or he beats them and they help, the next step of his plan is to infiltrate the NBA final. The players need to either fight or sneak with him into one of the team's locker rooms and from there get onto the court in the final 10 seconds of the game (three combat rounds in Shadowrun, more time than it sounds), get the ball, get it to the far end of the court and pass to Barkley so he can dunk it in, causing a blast of energy that kills all of the other players on the court that have 'ware, blows out the lights and kills the broadcast, the game ends with the PCs using their new found jumping and athletic abilities to escape from the stadium as it collapses. [editline]27th August 2015[/editline] Thinking of naming it "The Last Slamurai".
While it is, it would be simpler to just negotiate with the mimic (which is, after all, a fairly intelligent creature) and get it to remain in object form until further notice. Of course, if you're in a location with a hostile mimic, that's probably a good enough idea to keep such things around.
Hm, I hadn't considered the first point, but what happens if someone tries to open it / pick the lock when it's in object form? Can it function like a normal treasure chest and store things inside it, with people being none the wiser if it doesn't choose to make a snack out of them? The idea I'm trying to build on is [sp]the players unwittingly helping to transport a mimic to a local lord, as a means for a secretive faction to assassinate him. The key to the chains would be sent to the lord ahead of time.[/sp]

That's the freedom of GMing an RPG, you can change anything you want, either because you want to show off something specific, or to throw your players a curveball.

I think I'll go with the chains idea. Mostly so the players get that "What's in the box?" mentality. Because, obviously, I'm gonna assume if I task them with transporting a chest the first thing they are going to attempt is getting it open. I assume it makes sense for even a skilled thief not to be able to pick open a magic lock? So they'd either need something to dispel the enchantment or the actual key itself to unlock it. [sp]Oh. THAT. THAT'S WHAT'S IN THE BOX. Oh shit.[/sp]
So first shadowrun session went okay Triad gangsters were killed, scouting via sense-linked rat happened, drugs and gold-plated guns sold, and generally everything was peachy needing literally every book and the cheat sheets open during combat is a bit of a pain but it's pretty fun even so next session, assassinations and escort missions!
An entire session of the party talking about killing my character. Fun.
An entire session of the party talking about killing my character. Fun.
Clearly you should kill them first.
So, in my Shadowrun game, nobody has played before. One of them wants to play a Technomancer, but he has literally never touched a pen and paper game before in his life. Should I let him go through with it and just sort of deal with the things as they come or make him play something more basic just to get a handle on how these games work?

Don't forbid him from playing something he wants to play, though, just because the rules are a little complex, that's dumb.

Suggest being a decker maybe, that's a little less complex. Really for new players I'd suggest maybe being an adept of some kind, aspected mage, or plain old shooty guy.
An entire session of the party talking about killing my character. Fun.
I got a bad taste in my mouth from this session, and it wasn't the party's dislike of Irish. Hate to put it like that, but I really did.

But I will let him if he still wants to.
