end of session: the decker has had his arm cut off and is bleeding out on the floor
So this Sunday marks the 80th session of my still-running Magical Burst game. Which somehow hasn't had a single person drop.
God save my soul, this demon just won't be put to rest.
Spoke too fucking soon, I guess. First person dropped, or went on "hiatus" from the game. I still have four people, so that won't stop me. It just hurts my pride and motivation.

last cyberpunk 2020 session the new player, who's playing a netrunner, managed to critically fail to hack a car (and bluescreened his cybereye) and then got fatally shot in the head in the very first action of combat
I rerolled it cause what the shit but still

dude you kept this shit going for so long, don't stop now, players just lose interest sometimes
nothin to it
don't let it bring you down~
So our Deadlands game went almost as planned
We got word of a town infested with zombies but on the road we saw a Union patrol. Seeing as half the party was comprised of either current or former Confederates, we decided the zombies could wait and went to beat up the Yanks.
[editline]30th August 2015[/editline]
The only not Confederates are a Shaolin monk, a Samurai, and an Irishman with an explosives fetish.
I'm surprised by how cheap Mil-Spec armor is in Shadowrun. That much protection for only 25000-35000 Nuyen depending on which version you buy is an absurdly good deal.

Does 5e still retain the wonderful trait of every gun worth buying to simply remove half or more of the armor?
Does 5e still retain the wonderful trait of every gun worth buying to simply remove half or more of the armor?
Just about, yeah. My street samurai's been able to casually slaughter decently well armored guards before they can fire back because his shotgun just tears through their armor like it was cardboard.
[editline]30th August 2015[/editline]
Unless you meant Mil-Spec armor rather than armor in general, in which case I can't say because we haven't fought any enemies wearing it yet. Thankfully.

Oh, so Nerts is playing your game?
Oh, so Nerts is playing your game?
Having played multiple games with them, I think I can safely say that could also reasonably be Oliolio or Elowin.
Granted, they'd probably just play hucksters, so it probably isn't.

You'll be hearing from my lawyers.

Rule one of decking, meatspace is hell and you're trapped there.

In a normal game 35k nY is a lot tho
Plus, you're not gonna find milspec in a corner store. It's pretty high avail and wearing it is the slowest least stealthy thing ever
Not to mention that anyone who's not government or corp wearing it is going to get pulled over and arrested/shot the instant they're spotted in it
Granted, that getting shot is going to require an AMR, laser, assault cannon, rocket launcher, or just an extremely good shot to have any hope of actually getting through the hardened bit, but you're going to be slow enough in it that whoever's shooting will have more than enough time to get those kind of assets into position

The price is not the problem, its the availability. How do you sell such merchandise, or use it without gaining attention?
Like my irl group, got hold of a lot of Willy Pete, and used it combined a lot of other explosives to blow up a whole bloc of gangers. Lets just say Lonestar wanted to say hi later.
One guy showing up in milspec is an issue for the rest of the team as well, it's going to be raining grenades and rockets on him if the enemy have that kind of stuff, everyone else is going to need to be 20 meters away so they don't get vapourised by all the stuff fired at him.
Plus all the armour in the world won't protect him from non-physical spells
Plus all the armour in the world won't protect him from non-physical spells
Too bad they were nerfed super hard in 5e, it'll take a billion shots to take someone down with them now.
completely ignore armor though

Nah, they just have high AP values now, there's no -half AP weapons anymore
Most weapons besides laser guns (which suck shit) and heavy weaponry (which are awesome but unpractical) have fairly low AP values, and armor values have sky rocketed in 5e.
It's not like I'm gonna have my character stroll down the city streets with the armor on. I know how bad of an idea that is. I'm planning on only having him wear it when a run necessitates some heavier armor and/or when the other members of his team need a loud 'distraction' in order to get their own stuff done. Otherwise, I'll just stick with stealthy gear.

Stick an MG on a Roadmaster, it'll be faster, louder, more durable and easier to get, for about 60k.
just get an RPG and some anti tank rockets

Considering the fact that many of the runs our team goes on are conducted within large buildings rather than in an open area in which a Roadmaster would be practical, I think the armor is probably a better bet.
Plus, if getting shot at on the street is an issue, then an armored car with a machine gun seems just as, if not more, unsubtle than a suit of Mil-Spec.

it really isn't, tbh
Mil-spec is military gear, and usually reserved for elite soldiers at that.
The gap between actual, top of the line military gear and what cops and corp goons have is huge, riding out in military gear is going to elicit a crazy response.
On the other hand, a Roadmaster is literally legal for purchase by civilians, if I remember right it isn't even restricted. And LMGs aren't that rare on the streets.
Mil-spec armor is also way, way stronger than the armor on a Roadmaster. Hardened armor is some crazy shit. You're right that the price for it is ridiculously low.

But the important part about an armored car is it can still go fast and doesn't take 10 minutes to get out of when you need to ditch it

You can mount an MG on a Harley, that can go indoors.

I suppose you're right about Mil-spec attracting more attention, yeah. But my point still stands about armor being more versatile than a big car when conducting a run within a building, and as you said, it's surprisingly inexpensive for the amount of defense it gives.

There's only so far I can go indoors with a car or a motorcycle before a wall or a flight of stairs stops me.
If you get stopped by stairs you aren't trying had enough, walls are easy
Milspecs bulky slow shit to walk around in though. You move half your speed and get tired running straightaway, so you better hope nobody has any heavy hardware because you're not escaping from it

Well, like I said, I'm only going to be wearing it when avoiding damage is more important than chasing after someone. If speed is required, I'll put on something more appropriate.
Round three of SUPER SMASH MEKTOOOOON is about to begin! Grab your seats, ladies and gentlemen, today's matchup is against CSG172 and FetchingToaster!

and were saying that with milspec you dont get the choice to just take it off if you gotta move fast. It's an unweildy bitch and any bonus armor you get is gonna be negated by the fact that you are now going to be up against some incredibly lethal weaponry specifically deployed to kill you as quickly as humanly possible.
not to mention every one of your party members will now hate you because while maybe you can take a few blows from the new, much more highly threatening enemies you've created just by publically wearing a set, they cannot.

I think you're underestimating how slow having your speed halved makes you. I'd consider milspec if you've got celerity or raptor legs or something and damn good agility, but otherwise you're going to be moving at about 20m/turn at most.
