when you stay up until 2am making a homebrew map with your dm

context stuff:
because the upper-left corner is unreadable, that's the location of my character's mother's cave. It's presumed that since I drew the map that my character did as well, drawing it both from his own maps from his monastery and copying from other maps he had purchased of the regions. This is why the bottom left says "fuck elves".
The bottom right, again, being unreadable, is an archipelago of nut-shaped islands.
The immense bay/sea-like zone east of Triorcula is called a lake because orcs. A lot of things on this map are named the way they are because orcs. Orcs and half-orcs are probably going to be a pretty massive part of our campaign.
Tree placements are only to represent the general area where a forest is.
About the only name here that isn't a pun, joke, or otherwise a bit of sillyness is also blurred out. I really, really wish I had scanned this stupid thing. That name is Safeheart, the town on the lowest part of the Safeheart Gulf, and possibly the starting point for our campaign.
You can't see it here, but the Everburn Forest in the west end of the map is perpetually burning because Orcs are constantly trying to burn away the forest to drive away the druids who reside inside it, and the druids, being druids, are continuously keeping the plant and animal life alive through their magic. Hence, the forest is constantly burning, as the Orcs are too afraid as a whole to charge into the forest and take on some clearly very powerful druids, and are convinced that eventually they'll be able to burn the whole thing to the ground.
The Scaleone's are a family of blue dragons that have formed a mafia after the dragon who would come to be known as their Don was spurned by a copper dragon living in the nearby mountains. [sp]The town of Sweetwater is named so because it has an unusually sweet lake; the copper dragon was later cursed to be in a state of perpetual heat and impossible arousal, and a literal waterfall of, uhm, stuff is the result.[/sp]
A lot of town names are Draconic; the region our campaign is set in has a lot of Kobolds living in it. In fact, my character grew up in a mostly Kobold monastery devoted to Lyndis. The world is mostly made up of Kobolds, humans, half-whatevers and the occasional dwarf. The Orcish towns are mostly named silly things because dumb orcs are funny.
I have a plastcrete hard erection for Shadowrun's setting, it can be really dumb in parts, the big meta plots are a bit too fantasy in places, but the street level cyberpunk and magic blend is fantastic, no other setting I can think of allows for the sheer range of possible character options that would still make sense that SR does.
I also love Shadowrun's setting, and playing its video games has only amplified that, but I will never use Shadowrun's actual ruleset. I've played enough Pathfinder and 3.5 to be sick of crunchy systems that need to have rules for every little thing. SR5 did okay, but still...meh.
I made a catgirl in Shadowrun.
She can fall 100ft before taking damage or rolling acrobatics, and can reliably jump 10ft straight up and/or 30ft horizontally.
Meanwhile I'm playing a cyberpunk version of Tito from Rocket Power.
Hover-surfing into the enemy warehouse shouting "ALOOOOOOHAAAAA," is one of the best things I've ever done.

Funnily enough, one of my group's contacts is a dude down at the docks named Squid. He's a dwarf who rides around on a skateboard.
He's a dwarf who rides around on a skateboard.
He's probably just a pudgy kid.
SR allows you to play a legit Catgirl, but you still cannot be an SMG wielding octopus. I feel so conflicted.
Then again, my last SR character which I played was a mentally scarred highly cybernetic young woman which may or may not have had a data vault implanted in her head, which held tons of erotica, implanted into her by lead scientist of a project, so she would have PTSD episodes if she ran across porn. Oh, and murderilizing everyone with dual heavy pistol using wired reflexes, because mental conditioning. Otherwise, she would be an innocent little Russo-Japanese girl, being tracked down by Renraku.
And I only got to play her for one session. Sadness.
I guess you could play Eclipse Phase, but then no slinging fireballs and summoning spirits, and death is a minor setback in EP while in SR you can survive a few things out of sheer luck if the GM feels like being nice, but it's a generally high lethality setting and system.

you can totally play an SMG wielding octoperson in SR, though
quadrouplewielding is just utterly useless

well, octopersons in general are kind of useless when you're like, not in space. just put guns on your shoulders instead or something. not even cute or anything, unlike catgirls.
