Shadowrun is better.
Its all preference in terms of setting. Cyberpunk 2020 is essentially La Haine except with neonlights while Shadowrun is more like D&D with neonlights. And I hate D&D. Also I kinda like Cyberpunk's Interlock system even though its kinda unbalanced, everything is just quick and easy to play. [editline]13th January 2015[/editline] tbh Shadowrun and CP2020 are hardly comparable. [editline]13th January 2015[/editline] its like comparing LotR and Game of Thrones or Slipstream and Traveller
Ryan, Mekton is a giant mess, who is actually going to play it?
He is. He enjoys giant messes. Where there are none, he creates them. Just look at Satoya.
Any tips for DMs to not bore my players to death? These are literally the only people I know who have an interest in D&D, if I don't get them at least somewhat into it then RIP.

I think my players are bored all the time, but I've been told the opposite all the time. The other day I ended up doing a wall-of-text speech (that basically set up the rest of the game) from an NPC at a little event, and I stopped like halfway through to make sure my player wasn't attempting suicide, and he told me it was "enthralling". I wouldn't worry about it a /ton/, unless they've told you directly that they aren't enjoying the game.
This edition of Facepunch sucks, everything's changed or gone.
I'm gonna DM my first game soonish and it's Adeptus Evangelion. On a scale of 1 to shinji screaming in english, how would you rate my impending experience
Well, I can't give you a definite answer, depends a lot on your players, but just in case, I would keep this video handy.
This edition of Facepunch sucks, everything's changed or gone.
Only thing that's terrible is the hobby subsection is gone and the layout looks inferior. Though I never used the hobby section for anything other than Movies & TV.
This edition of Facepunch sucks, everything's changed or gone.
I'm waiting for the next edition, I've heard they've streamlined social interaction by removing comments and most ratings, save for funny and dumb. This will only matter for higher levels, most players won't notice anything.
Well, I can't give you a definite answer, depends a lot on your players, but just in case, I would keep this video handy.
I didn't know what to expect when I hit play. There's now a bucket of spit on my screen.
Since we have a new thread, I think I'll make a suggestion. We should just have a list of recommended games/systems in the OP, maybe even picking out a few to label as 'Beginner Friendly'.
Yeah i'll do that eventually. It may or may not end up being a list of every edition of Shadowrun. shadowrun is dungeons and dragons except the dungeons are corporate enclaves and r&d facilities and the dragons are still dragons but also businessmen
Going to be playing my first session of D&D 5e, and my first session of a Tabletop RPG ever, over the weekend after finding a local group and picking up the player hand book. I'm excited because playing D&D is something i've been wanting to do for a long time, let's just hope my first time goes well

I tried to search for local groups around London and all I got was a www.meetup.com group. Which from what I briefly read only does one-off characters and sessions most of the time.

I've played a few games of 3.5, and am thinking of running a Warhammer themed session at some point, any tips you lot could suggest? I've not really DM'd before :v:

40k Most likely, Bolters and Psykers. I've heard that there's rulesets and stuff, Rogue Trader and all, but I was most likely just gonna lift things from those into a 3.5 D&D setting for simplicity.
The Warhammer systems by FFG use a completely different dice system so it's going to be tough to port them into D&D Honestly systems like Only War or Dark Heresy aren't that hard to learn in the first place, so you should be okay.
Oh right, I'll give them a look then, thanks!
Started playing 5e with the group I played World of Darkness with. First character I made, a half orc Paladin. Died by taking a flying sword to the face :v: Group needed a dedicated healer, but also a more tanky melee character, so I made a cleric. And holy shit was I surprised. Clerics can, with the right patron/god be some mean mofos. I mean. Not only can I heal alot, but because my patron is a god of war, I can hit twice in one round. I've got an extra healing spell as a cantrip. I can stabilize people with a cantrip. One magic I have does 4d6 damage, and I've only just made this character. I can also do a fucking Gandalf and make my voice more booming/flames flicker.
A general run down of the 40k systems: Dark Heresy - You are Inquisitorial Acoyltes looking for Heresy/Xenos/Other Inquisitors/Anything your Inquisitor feels like telling you to look for. Has a reputation for being really deadly but if you're not dumb and wear armor you're usually not going to die too quickly. Mostly Action/Intrigue based, and the daddy of all of FFG's 40k systems. Rogue Trader - You are Space Trading Pirates and disregard everything to acquire $$$. There are economic and trading mechanic but those aren't as in depth as say a system like Traveller. Characters tend to be a lot more powerful and durable than in Dark Heresy, with access to better gear. The stakes tend to be higher as well though. Deathwatch - We are thuh spess mehreens. We are the emprahs fureh (I've not played DW yet) Only War - You're Elite Imperial Guardsmen and everything is terrible. This is the first 40k system that really deviates from how Dark Heresy runs and it operates differently. They both appear initially similar but with things like a new comrade mechanic, parry system and requisition system I personally think it runs a lot better than DH. FFG actually weren't afraid to change up some rules rather than make everything compatible with previous editions which I guess explains that. Dark Heresy 2e - Supposedly more like Only War. Not played this either. All the systems use 100-sided dice and the characteristics Weapons Skill, Ballistics Skill, Strength, Toughness, Agility, Intelligence, Perception and Fellowship. Skill checks involve you trying to roll "under" your stat scores, and being trained in skills and difficulty modifiers make the number you have to roll under either higher or lower. Hope this helps.

You choose a template class, and then your advancements are decided by your patron god.
It was a joke.
Sorry didnt realize the edition part was supposed to be a dnd thing.
These all sound really interesting, Dunno which i'll end up trying first, because I'm probably gonna have to do a lot of work, this is taking place in tabletop sim after all :v: EDIT: either that or roll20
You forgot Black Crusade, which is actually the first system that deviates from how Dark Heresy runs. Only War is very workable with most types of games you'd want to run if you change a few names about, I'd recommend that. Players can also construct their own regiment which is really fun and helps get them involved from the get-go.

As I recently started a full time job so the weekends is what I live for now, along with seeing my girlfriend at the weekends and every so often playing DnD with some of my friends. There would be a lot of cases where I would turn up one session and then not be able to return in a few weeks. Maybe I'll sign up to the meetup.com page and ask a few questions about it. I just want to play some DnD :(
