Would Battlefield 2: Project Reality be counted as a tactical shooter? It's pretty tactical.
I'd say yeah probably. The first time I ever played it (which was actually just like a month ago), it reminded me a bit of ArmA's multiplayer.
yeah but that part of swat 4 was insane. like you literally have to have either a lightning fast reflex or a non lethal weapon on you. and these situations where it's them or you pop up ALL the time in that game. really you can't go into swat 4 or 3 i guess expecting a tactical shooter. it's not really a shooter at all if you think about it because a shooter is kill first ask questions later. swat 4 is quite literally more of a swat sim than a tactical shooter. mainly because swat teams run into this kind of shit the most, and moreso than any other kind of commando. also your main objective is to preserve life as much as possible. you get more points the less lethal takedowns you use. i like using leg and gut shots to wound them. normally if i'm sticking someone up i'm always aiming at their legs. the first hint that they are going to fire i spray at their legs. they go down but don't die and you don't have to tie them up.
Having actually worked with police officers and with an 11 man "tactical team" (not big enough or professional enough to call them a SWAT team), I can tell you the game is pretty accurate. That's really the thing that got me to buy Swat 3, I saw how realistic it was and it immediately got my interest. The only things that are kind of off with Swat 3 and 4 is that there's only one entry team. For example, the gas station level - if that would have happened in real life, two teams would swarm that shit out of that place and hit hard. Smaller places with less threats = go dynamic, fluent and fast. In the game you really didn't have the option to do that. Swat 3 was better than the fourth one, in my opinion. I forget what year it was (maybe 1999), but you should definitely look into it. The sounds and whatnot are somewhat bad, but the gameplay is totally worth it. I actually recorded this a long time ago. This was like the first mission of Swat 3. That's really the fastest you can get through it, it would be nice if you could set up routes for the two teams in briefing like in Rainbow Six. That would work much better. (Yeah, channel isn't hyped up or anything. I only use it twice a year :/ ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWwDcroczZs
Would you guys class Deus Ex as a tactical shooter? I might just be terrible at it, but if I ever try running in guns blazing CoD style I get killed in seconds. The only way I can do well at that game is to observe the maps given to me, work out guards' routines and plot a route that will give me the best advantages.
ArmA and Project Reality FOR EVER.
I'd be playing these games if I could run them. [editline]12th April 2012[/editline]
there's a console command for third person but it's highly impractical to use because you can't see over your character's head.
Like this? Doesn't look so bad.
I grew up playing Ghost Recon & RBSIII.. So many great memories playing Ghost Recon online. Christ.. the MP in that game was absolutely incredible.

There's a lot more strategy and planning involved; a lot of thinking. I believe the third person settings for Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon were a lot different. But yes, the Rainbow Six one wasn't bad at all. Someday I'm going to buy all of these games, I wish sooo bad that the classic Rainbow Six and all would come to Steam. I should install Ghost Recon again sometime and we should see if we can get a server going. Surprisingly I've only played multilpayer once or twice, I just loved the terrorist hunt and campaign. Does anyone know where I can find all of the loading screen images and mission complete images for Rainbow Six? Some pretty awesome art.
I got SWAT 4 + EP and SWAT 3: TGOTY Edition (off of GOG.com, and yes that's TGOTY, translated to Tactical Game of The Year), SWAT 3 is definitly the superior game. I wish they made a SWAT 5, combining SWAT 4's content with SWAT 3's complexity with HD graphics. But of course they aren't going to do that. Unfourtanetly.
I remember Rainbow Six Rogue Spear from my youth. I was so shit at it I gave everybody heavy armour so I had a chance to not die when shot at. Still sucked at it.
Heck, guys, after watching all the vids and talk about Rainbow Six there my whole childhood flashed by. I was fucking 6-7 years old and I played tactical shooters. You won't find kids like these nowadays (HURR DURR CALLADOOTEY PLAYA) Say, anybody want to install SWAT 4 and make a big game? I can host, 10/10 Estonia.
the only memories I have of SWAT 4 would be Spoony's let's play series of them. "you're in my way sir." and "YOU FOOLS!"
Also found this: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/policewarfare/police-warfare Could be interesting?
Also found this: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/policewarfare/police-warfare Could be interesting?
I think that looks like it could be a good game.

You guys can go for it if you'd like, no one minds if you arrange a game on this thread. I'm thinking we should do Ghost Recon sometime. I'm kind of iffy about the Police Warfare game, but when I saw that the North Hollywood shootout was in the film I think it was somewhat reasurring. If done right I think it would be pretty good, but it's probably one of those games that could easily get fucked up if not done right. Anyone ever play Police Quest, lol?
Are there any third person mods from OGR? I know some people will think "blah blah nobody likes turd person" but honestly I'd rather have it over the simple crosshair, and I like the animations/player models in OGR so it'd be pleasing to the eye.
I'd like to point out this upcoming game: http://superbossgames.com/blog/Intruder Looks pretty good so far.

There might be, but you'll have to do a lot of searching. I wish there was.

I played Brothers in Arms and thought it was really good. Even on a console, it still kicked some ass. That game didn't have multiplayer, did it?
no it did. i don't know the exact details of the multiplayer but i'm certain of some kind of co op. [editline]12th April 2012[/editline] GOD DAMN. school is going to go by SO SLOW because i just got BiA and it kicks so much ass i'm actually considering skipping to play it. i hate this class too. fuck it though, gotta be responsible.
BiA is probably the best WWII shooter I've ever played.
Oh man, '90s all over this shit. Definitely the best track from the game.
I liked the sounds in Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear, shit was so awesome.
intruder looks groovy.
Battlefield is the most realistic tactical shooter ever made, it has real guns. [sp]Nah, just fuckin' with ya'll, Rainbow Six 3 is a timeless classic that will never die in our hearts and minds.[/sp] [sp]FUCK THE CAYMAN AIRPORT NIGHT MISSION[/sp]
BiA is probably the best WWII shooter I've ever played.
so far i'd agree with you. also it's one of the few WW2 shooters i've played that features the M1 carbine, which is a personal Fav besides the BAR. but nothing, NOTHING beats the PLING that happens if you empty your clip with a m1 garand. anyone else share that satisfaction that follows the pling of the clip ejecting itself?
tactical shooters went the way of adventure games and flight sims... sure there's a few still out there but it won't be the force that it used to be i think the tactical shooter reached a nadir when Vegas 2 (I beleieve?) you had to shoot down a Helicopter? this is tactical? this is what Tom Clancy intended? (he's a sellout anyway) stuff like COD4/MW2 really killed them off... I think the GRAW franchise folding long with GRIN probably killed it for Ubisoft in other news Ghost Recon Future Soldier is almost here
True Combat: Elite is a tactical online FPS. It's community should still be alive, but it's died out slowly.
As far as I know it's completely dead, which is unfortunate. I fucking loved that game. Last time I played it was around a year ago now and people are ridiculously good at it, IE guys using the R93, his head pops around the corner, bang, you're dead.
I'd be playing these games if I could run them. [editline]12th April 2012[/editline] Like this?
in other news Ghost Recon Future Soldier is almost here
Why can't they just give us a reboot of GR1 with an updated engine?
because xbox? i don't think twitch reflex audiences will understand that one bullet = instadeath and no respawn
