I'd kill to have ghost recon on steam. It's only 9.99... though I feel if I bought it now a steam sale would happen this time tommorow and I'd be like "fuck I could have bought this for $2.78" Its [del]a great[/del] [del]an amazing[/del] the best coop game, if it goes on sale I'll probably buy a couple of them and gift them.
Hypno-toad here's your chance, man!
it's guerrilla
No, it's gorilla and the Navy seals actually train for it

Can't get more tactical than this.
Name another modern tactical shooter that's as successful as ArmA.
america's army sniper elite socom truecombat vietkong
Why do some people still think SOCOM is tactical it's not [editline].[/editline] As a matter of fact it's probably the closest thing there is to a third-person CoD, multiplayer-wise
Coop SWAT 4. Tensest game ever. Until my friends learned how to yell "TRAILERS" at everything.
america's army sniper elite socom truecombat vietkong
I mentioned America's Army a few times, I like it a lot. SOCOM use to be tactical. Notice how I used the word 'modern' in that sentence? As for the other three, they're not even close to having the reputation ArmA has. As far as I know at least... Anyone played Medal of Honor: Airborne with the realism mods? I haven't but I heard they were decent.
Anyone played Medal of Honor: Airborne with the realism mods? I haven't but I heard they were decent.
yes. It was pretty good.
So, I bought Ghost Recon + expansions in the sale. I'm loving it so far but the third mission is balls hard. How on earth am I supposed to take out the tanks and the 40 or so infantry without having my guys and the peacekeepers perforated with bullets?
I bought the Ghost Recon Pack , the original I think is pretty good save for the fact that there are no first person weapon models, which really bugs me. GRAW though is just garbage. Squadmates are insanely slow when they are told to follow or move anywhere, the enemy AI is pretty shit too, moving to scripted points and not turning their heads an inch, making it easy to just shoot them in the back. I haven't tried GRAW 2 though yet, maybe thats a bit better.

Just make sure that your flanks are secure by clearing the plateaus on both sides of the bridge first.
-snip, wrong thread-
I have so far played through SWAT 4 only using non-lethals and not utilizing my sniper. I'm at the level with the "America Now" hotel level.
If you beat this game You are officially certified to lead a Gorilla force armed with sticks and rocks against Soviet Russia. [sp]FUCK YOU GOOBA AND YOUR INSANE BULLSHIT YOU CAN HAVE THE FUCKING ISLAND I DON'T GIVE A FUCK[/sp]
I did, actually was pretty hard but not that hard once you've mastered snipers :D (and learned what color pixel enemies are at 1000m, lmfao)
Wasn't there a mod of an old Unreal engine called Infiltration or something? Phatcat kept going on about it back when we were working SMOD: Tactical multiplayer stuff, but i never checked it out. To him it was supposed to be a really good tactical shooter, even for being a mod. Edit: Looks interesting. More realism, than just being tactical:
Good news everyone, the kickstarter for Ground Branch is finally live! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/670743543/ground-branch
There's the video for the Kickstarter.
I just had a LAN where we played SWAT 4 for about 2 hours. One of the best LAN games ever made in my opinion. (Aside from AoE II).
Get to it lads! I've already thrown $50 towards it. This is to Original Ghost Recon what Takedown is to Original Rainbow Six. :D
Overhauled Kickstarter page, they need help gents. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/670743543/ground-branch Go on guys, we need a proper Ghost Recon sequel!

Hey this thread inspired me to buy rainbow six 3 and I have a question so I'm bumping this thread: How do I make my own plans for missions. I can't find an actual tutorial anywhere.
does anyone have any status updates on that mod project VI? right now i'm giving rainbow six a go with 2.0 and i'm actually going to commit to making the controls to the game sane so i actually play it.
a lost genre? trying playing ArmA2 then tell me that the tactical shooter is a lost genre.
I wouldn't go as far as calling it lost, but the market for tactical shooters has decreased considerably and has been overrun by cookie cutter mainstream FPS titles. Tactical shooters used to be synonymous with quality game design and intelligent gameplay, now it's synonymous with fast paced action FPSs that have a button that magically attaches you to pieces of cover that makes you invincible. There's something wrong there. [editline]30th July 2012[/editline]
Why isn't the gaming industry interested in these type of videogames?
Welp, it's a two pronged situation: 1. The market for tactical shooters is usually niche. You have a few titles that achieve a moderate amount of crossover/mainstream popularity (Red Orchestra being one example), but these types of games usually involve a fairly high learning curve, and require a good amount of time invested into them to really get into the game, in the sense that they are not pick up and play games. 2. I hate to say it, but mainstream FPSs are dumb, and by extension: relatively easy to design. If you have basic mechanics, all you have to do is dump money into pretty visuals. Conversely, tactical shooters are usually of higher quality because the game mechanics are more complicated to get right, there's a lot more to think about. It gets even more complicated when you've got to code realistic ballistics. I'm no coder, but talking to people who are, getting real world ballistics is a fucking nightmare.
so is Ground Branch not gonna happen? because it looked amazing surely they can find someone to publish it for them that wouldn't fuck it up, it seems like they've already put a lot of effort into it
i keep getting this error with ravenshield 2.0 OS: Windows XP 5.1 (Build: 2600) CPU: GenuineIntel Unknown processor @ 2995 MHz with 1022MB RAM Video: Radeon X1600/X1650 Series (6925) Cannot load package ..\System\R6Engine.u: it was saved with version 412 (current version is 294) History: FPackageFileSummary::VerifyPackageVersion <- LoadSummary <- ULinkerLoad::ULinkerLoad <- UObject::GetPackageLinker <- UObject::StaticLoadObject <- (Core.Class R6Engine.R6InteractiveObject R6Engine) <- UGameEngine::LoadMap <- UGameEngine::Init <- InitEngine
I had Ghost Recon for the PS2 and I played coop with a friend because it was so hard to do without. I have the Ghost Recon Gold Edition for PC but I've never bothered to give it a full go. I've got Rainbow Six and the Eagle Watch mission pack, but I was too young to know what I was doing, might try them out on an old laptop at some point.
how do you turn off goggles in raven shield 2.0?
