More like 50% of the games are stomped by your team and the other 50% is stomped by the other side. The magnitude varies.
if you're seeing nothing but stomps maybe it's not matchmaking's fault but your fault I see a lot of fair games, in fact there have been very few games I can truly call a stomp, and most of them come from solo matchmaking which we've already established as legitimate garbage
Stop blaming matchmaking. Idiots are on every tier, LoL, Dota; any game that is online competitive, practically. If something is fun to you, it shouldn't be so that others ruin it that you don't want to partake in it.
Solo mm is broken as fuck.
there's nothing wrong with the idea. Just that it's wrong
Here we go again... Can someone please tell me what is so wrong with the idea that maybe, maybe there is something, even something very little, wrong with the matchmaking system? It's not such an absurd idea that you have to completely rule it out and blame me. Or is it?
Mind if I answer that with a question of my own? Have you dropped the 'I'm actually a really good player, matchmaking is just broken' attitude yet?
I must have written it wrong or you must have read it wrong. In the past, I said that I am a good player (aka. average/not trench tier), not a "really good player". So yes and no, I guess? But it doesn't even matter, really, in the end. This argument always leads into a dead end.
There will always be people lower than you, and people greater than you. Don't say "oh, matchmaking is bad because i get paired with scrubs and i'm so above these people," strive to be better than the player better than you, and so on and so forth.
Sometimes I have bad streaks, but usually they get interspersed by wins. The way I see it is that if you're getting a bunch of losses in a row, don't JUST blame the matchmaking system; take a look at yourself as well. Check your state of mind; being tired can impact reaction times and precision, which could in theory mean the difference between stunning the enemy carry and Finger of Death on an enemy creep. It also helps to know the little things, like keeping an eye on the minimap, getting last-hits and denies, juking, warding, micro, that kinda higher level stuff. 'cause MOBAs like this have a high skill-ceiling than the average deathmatch shooter, and consequences for screwing things up are often far greater than accidentally running into a Demoman's sticky mines or getting sniped out of nowhere by a stonking great tomahawk.

In the past, I said that I am a good player (aka. average/not trench tier), not a "really good player". So yes and no, I guess?
and I'm a pretty mediocre player, yet I realize my teammates are generally useful, my enemies are generally challenging to overcome, and that there's really not much wrong with matchmaking
to me, an average 50% win rate means the system is working well. It means you're being paired with people of mostly the same skill.
No it means that there's gonna be more handicapped parking spaces for the team your in
most people can agree that I'm a pretty shitty player and yet I'm not matched up with people way below me
More like 50% of the games are stomped by your team and the other 50% is stomped by the other side. The magnitude varies.
This is actually the case for me.
This is actually the case for me.
i'd say it's more like 30% of the games are stomped by your team, 20% are close games and the other 50% is stomped by the other side.
Abaddon and/or LC this week? Tournament ends on Thursday of this week, wouldn't be surprised. We are coming up on 4 weeks of no new gameplay content, and Abaddon's lines are in, as well as sounds and textures looking near completion
Is this new? http://blog.dota2.com/2013/05/communication-reports/ Valve doesn't seem to notice/care about the one flaw in the muting system, which I assume everyone here knows without me even having to say it. How can't they see it?
Usually if u are muted, you deserve it, and even if there are 5 man stacks abusing reports.... Well, you can tell for sure, that the system is not ideal (and will never be). However in most cases people that complain about the mute just asked for it. As for me, i have never been muted... So I don't see that much of a problem.
and even if there are 5 man stacks abusing reports.... We are looking at patterns of behavior over time only.

It means you're being paired with people of mostly the same skill.
do you know what a team matchmaker is
not sure about the heroes but definitely 6.78 this weekend
What makes you say that? There's been various leaks, but no indication from IceFrog besides the "before TI3".
Multiple people ganging up on you to report you in the same game has no effect on whether or not you are banned. We are looking at patterns of behavior over time only.
How come that i didn't see that. Guess everything is not that bad after all :)

Right now I think the biggest issue is the people. Smurfs and new players who queue with their high level friends kinda ruin matchmaking. Also an issue occurs when you only queue for, say, single draft. If the pool to chose from in your region isn't large enough it seems to go and pick lower level players. Also the language select needs to be enforced.
I have never been muted either. Short bans would be much better than mute people running around, imo.
Well, here's the thing : When people got banned on their acc for some period of time, or matched into Low Prio, they just switcher to their alternative account with Dota being F2P. This "mute" doesn't proc people wanting to do the same, cause why bother if it's just comm ban, but they notice it in games and that does reflect somewhat on their behaviour. Very little, but still, more than just "well, time for account #7".
I have to say that I have seen an improvement in behavior since it was implemented; I don't nearly get as much idiots that want to report you for their mistakes they make or "U NOOB" as I had before it was made.
Well played! Well played!
If you think about it, you do actually know the real words behind all of these "Well played!". If you don't, you don't notice it what so ever. And I think a breath of ignorance is sometimes healthy. [editline]28th May 2013[/editline]
Right now I think the biggest issue is the people. Nothing new here, since basically first societies. And how do you want to force language ? Especially in a way that is not police-state restrictive or abusive.
I played bloodseeker again I'm not going to play bloodseeker again
not sure about the heroes but definitely 6.78 this weekend
Highly doubt it, Valve wouldn't release heroes only to be changed the next day or the day after
Highly doubt it, Valve wouldn't release heroes only to be changed the next day or the day after
They released Centaur with the patch that changed his Ult so why not? They had done alpha icons for the old ult aswell.
Valve could also just ask Icefrog if he has plans to radically change a hero, so releasing someone wouldn't be a problem.
What makes you say that? There's been various leaks, but no indication from IceFrog besides the "before TI3".
He's gonna roll back updates again
Y'know, concerning the whole problem with not being able to understand Russians and whatnot, here's a thought around how to (kinda) solve it, at least in the chatbox. A translation system could be put into the game to try and translate languages, so that you can understand what they're trying to say. In theory it'd work, but it'd probably be a lot of work trying to develop a good-quality translation program that recognises most languages, something that probably isn't completely there yet. Sure there's Google Translate, but surely it's not all the way there?
