Don't worry about doing terrible, it does not matter as long as you're learning from your mistakes and getting better.
Everyone's first few games of Dota 2 are rough. Don't worry about it, you'll get into the hang over a (very long) period of time.
I'm still not very good myself, and I've played for about a year on and off.
As expected, I did terribly.
But we still won thanks to a "newbie" who went 28-1-5 as Shadow Fiend, and asked us to recommend him after the match.

If you can get some people who just started or haven't played any games to make it more bearable
also avoid playing with people who have, let's say, 600 games played.

timbersaw is so much fun and I hate that he's basically useless unless you have a great lane partner or are against stupid players or are really really good as him
axe and timber is really fun, especially if you tower dive and chase your enemies with battle hunger/timberchain
I don't see why you would ever put timbersaw with someone
he's a pretty good solo offlaner unless they have a fuckton of stuns and burst

Who were you playing as? Also, once you get the feel of it, the only thing you should worry about is the community. It can be a major setback when it comes to playing.

was laning against magnus and lion
it wasn't fun because axe decided to start in the jungle but then he came out to help me
honestly it was a stomp (they were really terrible, they put PA mid when they had magnus, lion, AND tiny as possible mid players) but idk
Yeah, starting Dota is always a bit tricky. I've got 340 hours into it and I'm still pretty bad, so don't worry about being bad.

when I first started playing I thought weaver was a broken piece of shit because he got really fed and was fucking unkillable
I thought weaver was the most worthless hero in the game because everyone sucked at him so fucking much
So got muted because I call people out on bullshit. Insulted some rus folks, guess they didn't like it.
Gotta say the mute thing is retarded, I can't ask what items are my teammates going for, I can't do any plans. If I ping I am told to stop spamming. I can't draw on the map, this is so fucking retarded. Last game nobody was paying attention to free farming spectre, I got tossed into my death by teammate tiny, I got so fucking mad I spent all game farming divine rapiers with gondar. When I purchased the divine suddenly whole fucking team who didn't say a fucking word starts begging for reports, feels good. Can't wait for the solo queue to be introduced, getting tired of playings vs 3-5 stacks alone, complete fucking bullshit, you get reported by pathetic people who encourage their teammates to do as so as well and you get raped by a more organized team because your teammates do not listen to you.
This will be my go to strat if people annoy me to no end, just ignore people and farm divine rapiers while listening to music.
