Randomed and played Wisp for the first time. How'd I do?

Wisp gotta have his Nike Air Force Ones autographed by Michael Jordan, ya feel?
I have to disagree with Nyx and CK. CK's mana pool is disgustingly small and requires a bit of management, and with Nyx you kind of have to choose your targets wisely, something I don't think a new player would do. Oh and venge to. Her ult requires positioning, timing and game sense.
Disagree, first ever moba (except awesomenauts) and my second game, random her, get 19 kills - 8 deaths or so. I'm glad you didn't add Riki, fuck newbies who play riki

Well, I saw a video of a complete newbie playing dota for the first time ever, he had no idea what to do, but he COMPLETELY stomped as Lion because his enemies kept playing so fucking badly. (Although his team overall was super stomping, the score at the very end was 50 kills to 10 or something.
I miss being a noob. Going Lina, stacking 3-4 void stones, and raping

the pl game may be labelled as a win but because you bought crits it's a loss
im sorry Devon_WarGod..............
I have a question, why is it good to get bracer, ring of aquila or drums early on some heroes? I'm quite inexperienced so far and wondering because why not just save that money and go for big core items immediately?
Good stats.
bracer/drums give good stats for squishy heroes earlygame and drums aura/active is really good in general too
ring of aquila is pretty good for agility heroes as it gives stats (mainly agility) and mana regen which most agility heroes need since they dont have that much int

The way dota works is basically the more expensive an item is, the less bang for your buck you get
For example, we can compare Drum to Ultimate Orb
Drum costs 1725. It gives +9 to all stats, +3 damage, and an Aura that gives 5 attack speed and 5% more movement speed to all allies. Plus the Active which gives double what the aura does. It also comes in easy to build components.
Ultimate Orb is made up of one big piece that costs 2100, and all it gives is +10 to all stats.
On carries, items like Drum and Aquila are built when you want to be more active early, instead of something like farming up a Battle Fury on an Anti-Mage and then sitting in the jungle until you get a Manta Style.
It's up to the strengths of the heroes (Gyro is a good example of a carry that can fight very early, while Anti-Mage can't) and how you want to use them (Hyper aggression and pushing everything down or just farming up and winning the lategame)
Good stats.
On top of this, price efficiency. Good stats for cheap means quick buildup.
If you're doing really, really well (as in you're absolutely stomping), you can opt for those big-ticket items early on and skip the early/mid game. But that's when you're doing insanely well.
Not your fault/problem then. Whoever's in that lane should call missing and if he's not doing that your team has bigger problems than you not being able to call missing on specific lanes.
It may not be my fault, but it is my problem, because it's a team game and everyone is supposed to cover everyone else's asses when possible. It becomes a problem when your teammates get ganked because they fail to see a gank coming a few times, and that stuff does happen. We can't be completely aware of the entire map all the time, we're supposed to fill in for eachother, and you might as well be playing 4v5 if that's not possible for one person.

Illusions get crits.

I thought illusions got the visuals for critting, but they didn't actually deal the extra damage?
Illusions get crits.
They do but you don't need it generally
Aui explained it pretty well. By the time you have a Daedalus on PL, it's less about having to kill the heroes, because you already have such absurd damage with everything factored in, but just getting the Rax. Scythe is a 6 slot item that he proposed to remedy this instead.

The visual is wrong, but they do get a weakened crit

that only applies to passive crits from skills i think
crystalis/daedalus crits do bonus damage with illusions
The visual is wrong, but they do get a weakened crit
Ahh, alright. Thanks!

How does Scythe get the racks?
How does Scythe get the racks?
It helps you get them by disabling people
Also gives you slightly better illusions
How does Scythe get the racks?
u turn rax to pigs
And sometimes you do in fact need more damage on PL, there's been a few times I've needed it on him (although rare).
It helps you get them by disabling people

But you just said you get it when you have enough damage, but if you did then why do you need to disable them when an army can just destroy them?
And the stats on Scythe are negligible late game for his illusions.

Is it good to go for those items early almost every game then?
Does this mean that it's always good to go for good early stats?
Not necessarily
A vanguard gives an Anti-Mage a lot of early survivability, but then he has trouble farming actual damage
Also if you invest a lot in cheap items and then you don't do anything with them then you're worse off later on. Like if the enemy carry chooses to go for something like a Midas while you get Drum, Aquila, Shadowblade, etc. and then they play a very effective defensive game, you'll just eventually have much less gold and get wrecked later on due to the increasing gold deficit.
Other than the phaseboots i think you did pretty well
Phase on Wisp is bad? Never knew, got them cause keeping up with people I tether started getting a bit difficult.
So it's all dependent on whether I want to make use of an early advantage or go for late game?
Imo if you want early and cheap survivability on Anti-Mage you should get Vlad's, if no one else on your team gets one. Lategame sell it for Heart.
So it's all dependent on whether I want to go for early or late game?
Yes, although that's if everything goes according to plan
If you try to go for a quick midas or something on a carry and get completely destroyed in the laning phase you might want some early game items instead of getting a really late farming item and then not having any time to actually farm.
I guess a more accurate way to say this would be buy items for the period where you need to fight, not for when you want to fight. These can overlap of course. If you're having a comfortable early game on a really hard carry then there's no necessity to fight early and you can just keep farming so you minimize your chances of doing something really stupid and throwing the game. Knowing all of this separates good carries from bad carries and you can pretty much only figure it out by playing.
