They tell you. You get oversight for both sides in the matchmaking menu prior to looking for match, then when you start you get oversight for given side.
And again on the Fav Team/Player matter.
Honestly, all of the players who get to International are spectacular. If this system will just gratificate people who chose the most popular "popular" teams/players then people will pick based on the gratification principle and not honest opinion.
Hell, even Gabe said he liked Dendi as a person. And there are guys like Black, like Synderen, like Admiral Bulldog, they are all awesome but very general Dota crowd who just "hears" about matches and doesn't even watch them they'll just pick the names they know. I.e. Na'Vi and Dendi.
Just noticed this Compendium Matchmaking thing is a bit late since most of the heroes that got picked on the Qualifiers got a nerf on 6.78

Boot-disputes man, boot-disputes.
Tranquils - could see use given how Ogre is a fatman that can punch, so purchased early especially for use in later Mekansm can help him have a healthy early-game. Later on might be problematic given how Ogre already has little ways of running away.
Arcanes - Helps his manaregen shortcomings, great supportive item for the team.
Treads - Attack speed could be neat, but Ogre's role isn't really to right-click whole lot past early-game simply because of how valuable his nukes and DoT/Slows are. The bonus stats are neat, but give little power/utility compared to other boots.
Phase - If combined with levels in Ignite (I highly recommand it) and Orb of Venom, this makes Ogre very much inescapble without enhaced movement abilities. Like Treads however, those have to be used early on for the offensive purpose. Later on there's still the speedboost and phasing, but Ogre can hasten himself via Bloodlust. 295 movement speed * 0.16 (Phase) = 47,2 occassional bonus MS. Given how Ogre has no abilities he casts often enough to break Phase use, it does make sense on him to a point.
TPs - You ain't no Tinker, but then again, those are "the best" boots. Still, Ogre's a support or at very least not-farm-priority-hero, meaning that if one goes for early TPs, one also forsakes a lot of other early items, wards, etc. There is of course argument of Brown Boots - <Most of the game> -> TPs, but boots are some of the most cost-efficient items when upgraded, so just sitting on boots is unhealthy unless there is another extremely high-priority item (Blink dagger on some heroes for example.)

If I'm mid ogre, I tend to just stick with arcanes. Phase are good, but even WITH a bottle he would have trouble.
I tend to go
bottle -> arcanes -> bloodstone if im doing good(getting lucky!) or euls -- > force
Don't question why I like ogre to be mid.

Batrider was mid, Night Stalker went 20-2, 26 minute match, no rapiers and no pushing done by jugger or enchantress.

That reminds me, the total damage on level 4 ignite is higher than Fireblast, right? And the slow grows with levels while the stun duration does not. So basically,a build of QWWEWRW would be the optimal one?
So the enemy team just did a lvl 1 roshan with Ursa/Ogre/Wisp. We didn't check for it (I had the excuse of being too busy with checking items etc as my 2nd time Lone Druid) and as a result got roflstomped. First time I've had a lvl 1 roshan happen

we actually defensive tri'd in my game (we were eg) and gyro was mid
when i played compendium all lanes were as they were in the real match except that dire went hardcarry nightstalker in their defensive trilane and luna mid
Ogre has a very high STR gain to manage a soul ring if you're really having mana issues.

Ignite was recently buffed, but even prior to that every level of Ignite is better damage wise than that level of Fireblast.
I am going by the build I've seen on the Reddit, I think it's Merlini's build.
Fireblast (utility, stun mostly) -> Ignite -> Ignite -> Bloodlust (utility mostly, some MS for gankers and what not) -> Ignite -> Fireblast -> Ignite -> Fireblast -> Fireblast -> Multicast -> Multicast -> etc (Bloodlusts and Multicast)
The idea is that level 1 Multicast is really weak and makes Fireblast cost more. 25% chance to do 2x Fireblast and tiny bit buff to Ignite, though AoE is neat it's rare to get people in it due to travel time.
What you do with this build is you fight early with slow/damage of Ignite, use Fireblast sparingly, mostly for stun and buff critical teammates with that early lvl 1 Bloodlust. Level 2 Multicast is much better, as now you get 2 Dicerolls, 40% and 20%, which is far better than 25% at Level 1. Stuff like Ignite's AoE also becomes proper, at 300.
At level 11 you'll hit the sweetspot of power in terms of Fireblast and Ignite, but prior to that, if you go with stuff like Orb of Venom and levels in Ignite, you are fucking scary. You are tough support with strong ranged Slow/Dot that can survive in melee against odds that would melt most supports and you have way to stop channels/buy some time with Fireblast (remember, it has static stun of 1.5 at all levels). If you can throw in Bloodlust, that's 20 AS and 10% MS for anyone you desire (Ganker like TA, NS, carry in lane, you while harassing ,etc).
If we compare it to the more popular Multicast at every occassion + maxing fireblast over ignite, you are more favourable for combat early on, you have better mana management early on (and Ogre's INT is low early), you have better damage output early on and you are using your tankiness actively and not passively. Even better if you don't like the RNG (though I actually like it...), you don't have to hope for rolls prior to LvL2 Multicast. 25% is hard to rely on (and just for 2x), 40% is more comfortable with potential 3x Fireblast.
Sure, it rids "go play in a lottery ogre" at level 6, but makes for much more man-mode gameplay and you'll still hit the slots at level 11, which with this kill potential and power shouldn't come too late.

My mom passed through my room today while I was playing, and in the same time someone yelled in my language something like "Stick up this aegis in your ass Leoric you piece of shit." She got confused and said never want me to be like this with the others. In the same time I alt+tabbed and while the computer screen was black I saw my reflection and tought: what I'm doing with my life.
