It's because if you play well consistently, you're a positive factor and that'll overall make you more likely to win and you'll move up in brackets. It can often be a slow process, but it works out overall.
That being said, I feel about MM in Mobas the same way Churchill felt about Democracy: "It's the worst system... except for all the other ones we've tried".

She's quite literally unstoppable versus any other carry when she actually gets farmed, spare Anti-Mage (mana burn) and Faceless Void (timelock/chrono).
I once played a Medusa game in all random, and while the entire enemy team had disables and sheepsticks, they couldn't even get me to half health during it all and I just mowed them down like it was D-Day or something.
Her biggest problem comes in part with her largest strength - she's way too hard of a carry. She's utterly useless until she gets items.

As far as I know, crates have a separate drop rate, meaning you can get both a crate and a normal item at the same time.

Bounty Hunter and Nature's Prophet. In most cases the BH can solo offlane so the Prophet can jungle. The basic idea is that Bounty scouts for a solo target then Prophet comes in to help. If Bounty Hunter gets Vlads to Desolator and Prophet aquires a Medallion into Orchid Malevolence at his earliest convenience (in some cases Midas can be ignored) all Prophet has to do is TP in an medallion/orchids him, throw in a few right clicks if he isn't CC'ed to death, then Bounty Hunter just right clicks, tracks and Shurikens the targets. This kills virtually every target who isn't ultra ultra tanky. Other nice things of this combo includes hitting a late bounce Nature's Wrath on a fleeing Tracked target. Unless your team is really incompetent or your enemy are really catching on and hugging/buying detection, this is an almost failproof way to win. You'll be putting so much pressure on the enemy that the enemy will forget your carry is getting a ton of free farm. You can probably start doing this once you are both 6, but you can't tackle full hp farming targets until yous have a few items up your belt

Anybody with MASSIVE burst damage or a chargable stun/nuke works with him. Alchemist, Tiny, Chaos Knight, Sven, Brewmaster, Tusk, Ursa, Slardar and Naix are excellent Wisp buddies. Special mention goes to Sand King, Epicenter out of nowhere is goddamn amazing.
